Fuck you Malcolm
Fuck off Gladwell. Go run off a cliff
It was full of opinions.... so I guess everything was false!!!!
I don't listen to a ton of Simmons pods and have grown to dislike Rachel Nichols in recent years, but enjoyed that pod today.
turned it off the moment she said "Lets talk Celtics!"
She's part of the "Everything about the NBA is awesome!" mentality that makes basketball media insufferable
I got scared at that point, but I didn't think the Boston stuff was that bad and they had an interesting conversation about media in general I enjoyed for the most part.
I completely agree with you about Nichols and have felt that way for a few years now. That's why I can't really watch The Jump anymore.
I like her
Rachel Nichols is great.
agree with that, like how corny stuff like "hoodie Melo" or "headband whoever" takes off. but she's good on podcasts
Rachel is good on pods but I did laugh at her talking like she’s a hard ass in interviews. She is the friendliest of media to players I can think of outside of maybe Ramona.
Team I like Rachel.
Never been a fan. Turned it off after the 5 year Oscar’s bit.
Rachel > Malcolm Gladwell
That’s certainly true buttttt tell me you wouldn’t wanna see Perkins and TMac react to Gladwell’s Nigerian basketball team theory
Sounds like Vision Quest will be the next Rewatchables
I’ve never seen it. Disappointed they are going back to the 80s and that’s what they chose.
And Ocean's 12 after that.
Bill trying to do a Boston impersonation for a Houston fans was...ironic, I guess?
His "Texan" accent sounded like an angry surfer bro
Bringing on Carolla to be Gen X shitlords was pretty cool too.
Jason Segal was good though. I’d pretty much forgotten about him.
he only has 38 acting credits. He doesn't work much
Freaks and Geeks, Can’t Hardly Wait, and Dead Man on Campus as your first three gigs is good enough for a lifetime of work.
Undeclared was sneaky good early Segel as well
Guy has made enough money to really focus on writing and only what he really wants to do. Not many actors have that freedom in their mid 30s.
About to listen to Carolla. Hope he has some good fake movie pitches.
Rachel is pure empty calories. She burns waaaay too much airtime on inside jokes, pseudo-teasing/flirting, and “gee golly everything is wonderful” platitudes.
Listened to her on Bill’s pod the other day on a flight, and was immediately unsurprised when she spent the first 5-10 mins blathering about chai lattes or whatever the fuck it was. I’m convinced she’s flat-out incapable of carrying any substantive conversation about the game.
last podcast moved over last week
Easily the best one. Died laughing first time I heard it like 10 years ago.
Carolla’s new one on the pod was pretty good. Was pretty funny pod with Bill too.
yeah, but you like vernon who is the worst basketball podcaster on the planet.
Russillo / Killborn was disappointing. Turned it off after 10 minutes.
Chris Ryan and Andy Greenwald on the new How Did This Get Made? Haven’t listened yet but am pumped for it.
i really wish someone would have an honest conversation with bill about his impressions. they are, without exception, dreadful
Maybe I'm just a little too young (30) but I could not give less of a shit about Craig Kilborn. I don't understand why Russillo is so captivated by him.
Kilborn was on Eisen's show a while back and I just don't find him interesting. His story is interesting and I remember a little of his SC days (mostly after the fact), but as an interview he's just a weird guy.
Kilborn interview wasn't as awkward as the one on Simmons' pod that he referenced but I still didn't enjoy it that much. He's just so weird.
It's all about how old you are. Kilborn came to Sportcenter in 1993 so Russillo was 18 at the time and wanted to get into broadcasting. Kilborn was one of the first cool and funny Sportscenter anchors back when Sportscenter was a huge deal.
I loved Kilborn on SC because I was 13 when he came on and he was funny and unlike most sports people at the time. The Daily Show was during my high school years. I was and still am a Conan guy so I never really watched his Late Night show but for a lot of guys in the 35-50 range I bet they grew up loving the old Sportscenter days and some of the great anchors they used to have.
Russillo's jokes were so bad during the interview but I enjoyed it. Used to quote Kilborn all the time growing up and would watch that sportscenter...I was like 12-14 when he was an anchor. I didn't love his show after Letterman but I would check it out sometimes in college.
I thought it was much better than the Simmons/Jason Segal interview.
Havent had a chance to listen yet. About halfway through the Vision Quest Rewatch Pod which is pretty entertaining.
yeah I think people forget how unique people like Kilborn were in the sports media landscape when they showed up
but as a person he kind of just sucks and is boring now that we're 30yrs removed from the novelty factor
that's cool. Figured I just missed the boat.
Lol Lowe and Simmons pod. Bill sounds pathetic talking about Tatum. The guy is plugged into the Celtics. This isn’t the same as a casual fan asking a bunch of questions to a league source about their favorite team.
did you watch the movie?
VQ Rewatchables was solid and Russillo going off on lat pull downs was funny
I watched it the other night so I could listen. Not bad. Agree on the weight lifting scene.
Two Boston homers having a circle jerk about Tatum...was Bill’s buddy Hench not available too? Perhaps Donnie Wahlberg?
Oh good grief.
If you guys are still upset about Bill being a Boston homer a decade after you started listening to him, it’s probably time to chop your dick off and shove it up your ears.
Lowe isn’t a Boston fan dummy. He roots for the Knicks.
Lowe was literally a Celtics blogger
he also grew up a Celtics fan
