Well color me surprised, just read Death of an NBA fan, never knew that. I’d just always heard him talk about how he wished the Knicks were better so he could attend good games. Hard to call “Spock” a homer, FWIW.
Top 5 movies I want on Rewatchables (no particular order): -- Catch Me If You Can -- That Thing You Do -- Minority Report -- Superbad (Yes, I know .com did an oral history, I don't care) -- The Big Short Bottom 5 movies I want: -- Anything and everything from the fucking 80s
I would love those 5 as well but disagree on the 80s. Three of my five most wanted are in the 80s: Coming to America The Karate Kid Rocky IV The other two are Boggie Nights Anchorman
Is the big short rewatchable? I saw it once and it enjoyed it but that was it. Agree on Superbad. I’ll have to watch Catch Me If You Can again. Was highly entertaining in the theater.
Kilborn pod wasn’t bad at all. Wasn’t the best I’ve heard but once he got comfortable with Ryen I enjoyed it.
Allen Iverson and a freight train had a baby, and now it's extremely efficient and surrounded by shooters? No thanks
I just don’t like 50 three’s a game. I don’t hate them and I’d prefer them to win the west over the Lakers.
it's boring to watch I think and I've followed Harden's career since he was 16 years old...I'm not a hater just don't like watching them play
Love that Russillo is getting comfortable enough to call him out like he is. Bill was legitimately hurt when Russillo told him his impersonations were terrible. I also liked him “abstaining” from getting pulled into another “Devin Booker should’ve played on Team USA” take. How is Bill still bringing this up every podcast?
LA is crazy during Laker playoffs!! There are flags on cars all of a sudden. Ryen: so there will be an increase in flags?
My instinct could be way off base, but The Way back with affleck looks like a very cliche sports movies that’s been done many times over. Not too excited for it.
I thought I would hate the Bill Russell BOB pod but was pleasantly surprised. The series was underwhelming for the most part but had a few bright spots.
I just want to his new ranking of the top 25 since his book came out and the reshuffling due to Lebron, Kobe and Durant rise since 2010.
I liked Ocean's 12 but I was surprised Amanda and Sean were baffled when Chris said it wasnt as well received as Ocean's 11. Amanda wouldnt hear anything negative about it and basically dismissed anyone who didnt love it. It was a good sequel but I thought it was pretty common knowledge most people thought it was a step down.
of course it is common knowledge, that's why they spent the first 5 minutes talking about it. That doesn't mean that common knowledge is right, which is why they are doing a rewatchables on it. Get it together Bill
They do plenty of movies that have flaws. This being one of them. Its good and rewtacheable for sure. I just chuckled when Amanda and Sean who can be pretentious when it comes to movies bristled at the idea.
A major part of the plot in Ocean's 12 is Julia Roberts pretending to be Julia Roberts. It's not nearly as good as 11 and also worse then 13.
I enjoyed the podcast a lot and i think i actually learned a fair amount about the tone of the movie and the motif of it. i thought 12 was better than 13 before listening and that only further entrenched my belief. Dubner as a podcast guest was great btw. first simmons pod i've listened to in a while. generally felt like the best conversation simmons has had, perhaps excluding klosterman.
He sounded like he hated Kyle haha “Wait you really switched back to real cigarettes” “You know you can drink coffee without sugar”
Russillo trying to slip in that “mainstream media” and “climate change girl” comment on the new pod on the low.
A Republican voting in the presidential election in CA is pointless so I could see him not voting for either side.
Well this is about intent. Sometime in his mid 20s Ryen definitely read Ayn Rand and had an epiphany. The trump culture war seems like a cherry on top.
well off white guy who clearly has substantial insecurities oh yeah he voted and will vote for him again
Making assumptions like that I don’t think is fair. Guy grew up in a working class family and didn’t have much money until he got the job at ESPN. Sounds like he has some issues with relationships which I bet have added to those insecurities like a decent number of people have who have burned. Just because he’s a Republican doesn’t mean he voted for Trump. Ryen earned and worked hard and hasn’t been that well off for all that long.
Trust me I knew the response I would get from the regulars. Just think you guys go overboard with your assumptions when it doesn’t fall lock step in with your beliefs.
How mad is Bill that Ryen’s Daryl Morey impersonation is better than every impersonation Bill has done since doing his pod?
for the record Bill and basically everyone i listen to on the ringer doesn't fall lock step in with my beliefs either
