One of the AI things they mentioned was averaging 41 minutes. Seems like they discounted that when factoring in how players would translate to today’s game. No way he plays that many minutes now, and that likely extends his prime career (a knock they used against him). He’d also likely get to the line a lot more with how the game is officiated, and they’d build a team around him differently.
Iverson was fun as hell to watch and one of the best scorers I’ve seen. Do you know how good you have to be at 6’0” 180 to avg 33 ppg?
coming from a Sixers fan, Bill loves being passive aggressive towards the Sixers. it’s like he doesn’t even want to give them the satisfaction of hating them like he does the Lakers. so talking down AI while acting like he’s supporting him doesn’t surprise me.
Lebron handled the hype extraordinarily well. Probably better than anyone I can think of. A lot of people dont though and there are a lot of cases of it going bad.
Like 10 years ago “yay the white dude” was more common and seemingly considered less weird by the mainstream. Feels real weird when Bill always has that opinion now.
yeah, but they've done the Boston/Tim Duncan one, the Boston/Paul Pierce one, and the Boston/early lottery/Antoine Walker one. they'll probably do a 2001 one where Boston had three first round picks and then they'll be done with it. or at least simmons would be done with it.
Don’t tell me some of you think Bill is some type of bigot. He’s talking about a draft from twenty two years ago.
"Lebron only has his mom watching his back and from early appearances she makes Mrs. Iverson look like Mrs. Clever."
That line about his mom is pretty cringey. But he’s not wrong about what could have happened. Tons of dudes would have and did crack under the weight of expectations.
Even more recent than that remember that Bill blamed “The Decision” on LeBron not having a dad growing up
soft bigotry was mainstream forever, like maybe the last five-ten years it's started to fade away in the major outlets
Bill hanging onto opinions that have now become outside the mainstream while he doubles down further on a “cancel culture has gone too far” mindset and “aggregators are out to get me” as a big part of his act surely isn’t coinciding with him admitting to spending more time on reddit conspiracy theory subs. He might not be a bigot but he certainly has Bostonian old man beliefs embedded in him.
He was trying to be funny and it looks stupid in hindsight. The stuff about LeBron/Iverson moms is especially weird. The premise itself isn't unfair, though. The kind of interesting thing in hindsight is it seems like the Kobe/Tiger family situations weren't as strong as people were led to believe back then. Tiger's family situation was kind of fucked up, and if I'm not mistaken Kobe was estranged from his dad (and maybe others) for a while, at least.
Yes! One of my favorite comedies. I didnt listen to Fast 7 because I havent seen it. Still need to watch Edge of Tomorrow.
I don't disagree with his takes (aside from the softcore bigotry/institutional but maybe not intentional racism) regarding LeBron. I mean, that's what makes LeBron unbelievable. He has been in the 100% spotlight for the last 20 years and his biggest fuck up was choosing another team on live TV. Given what we know about the 90s to early 2000s NBA, it wasn't a stupid take to say all the red flags were there for a massive burnout.
He surely had a lot of experience around people from other backgrounds going to the same private school as the Winklevoss twins and Vince McMahon's children
He was comparing other young celebrities/athletes with fame early and huge bullseyes on their back as examples. He never has said he did grow up in a diverse situation either.
His take on LeBron in the 98 draft pod was terrible. That players who join Lebrons teams get worse. Glad Russillo pushed back. Simmons sounded like an idiot trying to argue against it.
Yeah Simmons couldn’t get past the fact that lower counting stats don’t equal a lesser player. Lebron is going to have the ball on his hands more so everyone else’s numbers will go down. The trade off is being on a perennial contender, and possibly, a trophy. You’d think Simmons would get the point considering his hatred for players who score a ton of points but don’t win. Russillo has gotten good about challenging Bill without it seeming like an attack.
I agree that was a pretty bad take. Of course guys numbers go down. They would do the same with any all-time player. Look at Pippen’s numbers when Jordan was gone for 144 games.
my podcast consumption has cratered but since Lebron went to the Lakers Bill has lost any ability to hide his disdain for him so any take he has is immediately disregarded
Simmons shitting on his own websites TV character bracket was an unexpected bonus at the end of his appearance on the Lowe Post pod. Also, has anyone noticed how Simmons has been trying to run other pods even when he’s supposed to be the guest? There’s a lot of “no don’t go over that yet” or “let’s build the drama on this” type of comments on his Lowe Post appearance. And i thought it was funny when Russillo said something to effect of “Simmons runs the pod even though it’s in my feed” on the lead in to one of the Re-Draftable pods. You could tell Russillo gets a little adgitated with that kind of stuff.
Maybe it’s because it’s Sal’s first time, but I fell asleep to the tommy boy pod last night and didn’t think he was very good on it
I’m only like 1/2 way in and I think he’s trying too hard and is prone to rambling...take his weird side note about how unfortunate the town name Sandusky is because of the Penn State stuff for example
He rambled for a bit and Bill brought up a new point, Sal kind of started, and then Bill was like Sean what do you think
let us pray after they get done with the NBA re-drafts they don't move to MLB or NFL "You know, House, it's not inconceivable that the Red Sox could've had Christian Yelich, Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger and Mookie Betts!"
the critiques of the bracket were hilarious. he seemed ashamed when Lowe said Cartman was a 15 seed haha, that got me pretty good
someone on Reddit came up with the RYEN system Read Twitter Yell about something you find Enlighten audience on the correct POV Never reveal who you're actually yelling about
also that was totally a Rex Chapman sneak diss by Russillo, right? Not that I disagree with him at all
i thought it was dumb as hell when simmons went after jonah keri for "stealing" an article idea and this seems similarly dumb.
