The Press Box had Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio for their latest episode. They brought him on to talk about his new Mitch McConnell book, and I was fascinated to hear him talk about it. But you would think a podcast that lives at the nexus of sports, politics and the media would also spend time talking about how a guy with openly progressive politics keeps his seat atop a dark red fan base, but you'd be wrong. They didn't talk about it once. Also, David Shoemaker was eating on the air for part of the episode.
the incongruencies in his reasons for picking all stars was breathtaking but the Ben Simmons thing almost made me wreck my car
he keeps harping on the game where Ben Simmons "successfully guarded LeBron" even though LBJ had like 30+ and shot over 50% and the Lakers went on a double digit run to take the lead at the end
“Bill Simmons on How to Survive Riviera Golf Course...” does not make me excited to listen to Fairway Rollin’, Ringer staffer who titles podcast episodes.
I like Charles as a personality but he contradicts himself so often, many times in the same sentence. “in my day, no one ever forced their way out of their team.” “after philly traded the #1 pick - I knew I wasn’t going back and told ownership to trade me”
I loved Bill saying Jaylen Brown was a lock for starter in the All-Star game and asked KOC who deserved the last spot. And then KOC said I actually don't have Brown as a starter.
you can hear Bill die a little each time Charles shits on the Celtics or suggests that Brown and Tatum arent a great fit.
the "I always put the ice in first" ad read sounds like an alien trying to blend in with the human race, who the fuck doesn't put ice in first in a fountain drink??
Why did Bill cut down his Twitter presence so much? Not a big listener and rarely check the thread, I’m sure this happened years ago I just never noticed
got flamed for his seminal "A Truly Sad Day in America, plus the 2005 ReDraftables" podcast and stopped posting
Are ReDraftables entertaining at all? I can't imagine listening to a podcast about a 15 year old draft, or even one from last year. But that is the kind of minutiae Bill obsesses over
Does Sean Fenessy have a regular pod he appears on or is he mainly a writer who does guest appearances?
He hosts The Big Picture, a movie podcast. It's pathetic I know that; I've never listened to one second of it.
I listen to it when the subject matter interests me. It’s a good podcast if you like movies. He’s super knowledgeable.
Ryen and Bills rant on instant replay in the NBA was spot on. Replay needs to be scaled back in all sports, but it’s the worst in the NBA.
The recorded them in the summer when there were no sports on and they needed content. At the time, when sports were put on hold, it was about the best option if you wanted something lite to listen to sports-wise.
Just blaming scientists for not getting the virus right on day one and shitting on mitigation efforts all in the name of not having to travel to Arizona for his daughters soccer game.
