Between the multiple wrestling pods and terrible takes on the masters - it’s gonna be another insta-delete for me
back to back wrestling just drives me nuts. i cannot believe that many people give a shit about wrestlemania
i rarely have seen a movie on the rewatchables. at 31 I think i'm about 10 years too young for that podcast.
Don’t listen so don’t know, but if they were just guessing / postulating - can confirm they are right.
They’ve been doing a action movie run last month. Hasn’t been my favorite. This past four months has been their weakest lineup. Disappointing because it’s my favorite podcast to listen to every week. Their infatuation with Michael Mann movies is a little much.
Probably buried by Simmons' cancel culture take, but damn Kevin Clark was 100% on something on this podcast right?
last epi I listened to was Out of Sight, haven't had much interest listening to anything they've done since except for New Jack City which I'll bang out before week's end
I skipped New Jack City and Thieg. I hadn’t seen either of those and I’ve never gotten around to watching the movies. Commando and Lethal Weapon were entertaining though. I’d recommend those.
I've seen Manhunter. Brian Cox is good and still the 3rd best version of Hannibal Lecter I've seen. Not sure what the market for podcasts about Manhunter is.
they used to say something along the lines of every 15 or so episodes they do one for "themselves" and its usually something like 8MM or Kicking & Screaming, etc. lately though it seems like every 2 or 3 episodes they do one for themselves
Release date for 2021 Rewatchables selections: Manhunter: 1986 Lethal Weapon: 1987 Thief (what the fuck is this movie?): 1981 Commando: 1985 Insidious (never heard of this): 2010 Inside Man: 2006 New Jack City: 1991 The Doors (???): 1991 Neighbors: 2014 Coming to America: 1988 Sleeping With the Enemy: 1991 Taxi Driver: 1976 Out of Sight: 1998 Terminator 2: 1991 The Terminator: 1984 First Blood: 1982 The Royal Tenenbaums: 2001 Bridesmaids: 2011 So that's 18 movies, five of which have been released within the last 30 years. And there are definitely some choices among those five.
Also, you know Bill is calling the shots here because only dudes appear on podcasts with male leads and only women appear on movies with female leads.
Thief is a Michael Mann movie. Bill said he wanted to do a lot of action movies and discuss the 80s and 90s ones that created the modern action movie. Predator and Lethal Weapon 2 will be coming out in a week or so they said then they will be done with that genre for a while. This stretch hasn’t been my favorite and least I’ve listened. Thief, New Jack City, Inside Man, Insidious, Sleeping With Enemy and Man Hunter I’ve never seen.
The 80s didn't even invent the action movie, they just perfected it. Bullitt and the French Connection and shit were all in the 60s
I think that’s why they referred to it as the modern action movie with more one man vs the world types.
I've enjoyed watching old movies (aka the 80s/early 90s movies that simmons grew up with) and going back to listen (or re-listen) to the pod. watched Boomerang last night - and loved it - and am re-listening to the pod. Wesley Morris + Van Latham are really good.
You could say that about a bunch of the movies they selected. I wish I could un-watch 8MM from my memory Rewatchables started out as a great fucking concept but it kinda has become a caricature of itself. I will say that Van Lathan has been an amazing addition
Is Bill retiring in 4 years at age 55 common knowledge or was that just a BS throwaway comment during the Manhunter podcast?
Ben Simmons is going to take over Guess the Lines with Sal's kid because their fathers got them addicted to gambling as early teens and they're going to continue the Parent Corner segment, but it will be about Bill and Sal being old
Not sure but the guy has generational wealth already. He should enjoy the next 25 years going to sports events, writing (lol), and podcast guest spots.
they started doing niche movies and certain time periods that idk maybe Bill loves, instead of movies that are actually on tv all the time.
I’m really hoping the Rewatchables funk is because of the pandemic and not being in person. I know he’s mentioned that there are multiple movies they want to do when they can hang out again, so hopefully we get some more classics and that the second tier movies are better too.
He's likely contractually obligated due to the ringer purchase for a few years. Five years total since they got bought last year right?
Chris Ryan plays a huge part in that too. Half the time it turns into movies they love but no one else does.
Bill has the life. Made a career out of writing, talking and watching sports and turned it into a $100 million plus fortune. I’d retire as well.
My hope is that the ex writers and podcasters who became my favorite personalities are the ones who operate troll accounts.
Me too. There are so many movies they haven’t touched that are comedies that are truly rewatcheable: Dumb and Dumber Ace Ventura Anchorman Something About Mary Meet The Parents Dodgeball Zoolander Great Outdoors League of Their Own Vacation Christmas Vacation Trading Places
Yes there is like a “key person” clause for Bill and 1-2 other people for a set period of time that says they can’t leave and keep their stock and/or cash from the sale. the barstool lockup time was 5 years for their top 3 people, so I’m guessing the ringer lockup is similar. I’m sure Spotify will make him a big offer to keep doing his podcast.
Tyler Tynes talking about the Ringer on the new Distraction podcast is worth a listen to those invested in loving Bill like me.
Inside Man is fucking fantastic. I’m a huge Mann fan, so doing Thief and Manhunter is straight into my veins.
