I haven’t listed to a BS NFL pod in a few years but Bill saying college coaches only work 9-5 in regards to Urban Meyer was such a bad take.
Especially when they are much easier, much truer statements that can be made about egomaniac control freak college guys like Urban and Saban and Spurrier… His line guesses were hilariously terrible and it was because he literally based it all on week 1 “looks”. Amazing stuff
Not sure Bill has ever done as badly as he did this week, all because his “joking” overreaction segment wasn’t a joke and he was writing off every team that lost that wasn’t NE. He actually floated Houston to win the South. It took Sal to remind him Jacksonville won their first game last year and then finished 2-14 or whatever. amazing how someone can do this for as long as he has and yet forget that the majority of NFL teams hover just over, at, or below .500. Only a very few teams dominate each week, and very few teams are non-competitive each week. like he couldn’t believe the packers were a TD favorite over the Lions.
rodgers wont be the last QB who struggles big time against that saints defense and yeah BS knows absolutely nothing about college football. pretty sure college coaches work harder than nfl
Bill: I have Dolphins -1.5. Sal: It is Bills -3.5 Bill: psh, that line is stupid Bill: I have Browns -7 Sal: it is Browns -12.5 Bill: that is ridiculous. I don't trust Baker and Tyrod is really good!
lmao. The gymnastics bill does. Josh Allen missed wide open deep shots and then put it perfect in the back of the end zone over a defender for a TD. My guess is Allen prob doesn’t miss that many wide open TDs game to game this year.
he should just admit his fandom impacts everything he says. He said he hit 3 teasers, so he will definitely lose his teaser next week. He then said "I will tease Pittsburgh just to screw them over." Obviously he doesn't want to think Pittsburgh could be good, because he hates the Steelers. Thus, the Bills losing to the Steelers must mean both teams are bad. His hate for the Steelers and Tomlin is really fucking weird When Bill asked Sal who might have the best defense in the league after the Rams so-so defensive performance, Sal said maybe Pittsburgh. Only then did Bill mention that maybe Allen's performance was somewhat attributable to the Steelers being good. He has also spent about a full hour of time this offseason and this week telling us that the Pats are really good and it isn't his Boston bias. Cannot wait to hear him ride the up and down roller coaster as they finish 8-9 or 9-8 instead of 11-6 like he thinks.
I normally wouldn’t give a shit, but Bill’s POV on the Pats has me actively rooting for them to lose and generally look bad just to make the Pod more enjoyable.
I almost went and placed a future bet on their over / under wins this AM, but held back. I'll just enjoy his crying on the pod if they don't live up to his insanely lofty expectations. My prediction is that around week 9 or 10 he realizes that maybe a rookie QB is not likely to lead a team to an 11 or 12 win season, especially a team that didn't make the playoffs the year before. At least Sal pushed back a little today when he fucked up that Jets line so bad.
I think 2-3. Lose to Saints and Tampa. Beat Houston and NYJ. Definitely could be 1-4 or 3-2. 1-4 would be hilarious, but that would be too amazing so I can't imagine that happens.
Sal: that was the first regular season game Trevor Lawrence has lost going back to high school Bill: I don’t know if that’s for real but it’s a good stat
Saw this and came to post but seems like you guys are on it. Have not listened but now might need to.
He also threw out a “what did the Texans ever win with Deshaun?” while praising tyrod. I dunno, a ton of fucking games
Going to coach practice, go grind some tape on Alabama, and then spend my Friday night driving to high school football games because I don't have what it takes to work like an NFL tight ends coach
during the week 1 guess the lines i thought to myself "give it until week 3 before bill starts obviously cheating" lol yeah that's definitely happening
At this point I'm pretty sure it is 98% because he saw some mindless discussion on First Take 4 years ago about "Who is better: Nick Saban or Bill Belichick?" and is still pissed off about it. Plus he gets to pretend only watching the NFL gives him deeper insight into the game and the NFL draft than those of us who watch college football.
As a college football fan I’m surprised Sal hasn’t ever corrected him on the 9 to 5 thing. It’s such an absurdly bad take that’s easily contradicted just using logic.
I get the feeling Sal holds back on the pod quite a bit, especially recently. The pod would be 4 hours long if he called Bill out on everything he was being an idiot about. It is actually quite impressive restraint, but it is more entertaining when he roasts him.
my buddy and I do guess the lines together like Bill and Sal, but he had a busy monday morning this week so we didn't get to it until tonight and after this thread I'm going to have to disclose that I have seen a few.
nah it's 100% that he grew up in a region and went to a school where it didn't matter. he's not that deep.
who is Sal a fan of? i don't listen to his normal content. i know he bets on cfb but i didn't realize he had a team or any particular rooting interest.
Okay, that's what I figured. I don't care about Simmons' pod himself but it is pretty crazy that The Ringer doesn't really bother to cover college football at all, especially given the number of ringer-type employees from SBNation or elsewhere that would be great on a podcast. How long until his son enrolls at Arizona State? Maybe Bill will get interested in CFB at that point.
does anyone remember the story about Charissa Thompson's stalker when Russillo lived with her? He briefly brought it up on the podcast today and it sounds familiar but i don't remember the details.
I think he brought it up like two years ago on his pod with simmons before he even had his own. Dear lord….I measure my Russillo consumption in years.
