Bill, commenting about the pats after barely beating Mitch Trubisky and the Steelers without Watt: “that loss to Miami looks pretty good. I sneaky like pats +180 to make the playoffs”
bill says his dog got sick by eating his friends' kids' underwear. except he referred to them as panties. that's weird, right?
Doesn’t watch most bball teams. We’ve seen his shit baseball futures. Good thing he’s a historian of shit like Real World Las Vegas or he wouldn’t be able to contribute any content.
i felt like i knew the movie better than those 3 even though i hadn't seen it in years. there were several things they were giving their opinion on like it wasn't literally said in the movie like when john tuld says "it wasn't brains that got me here" or whatever. and they're all like "yeah i think that's just a play by him. smart people in positions of power do that." russillo had some dumbass catchphrase like "he doesn't know but he can tell" that scene is literally preceded by this
i also liked ryen just casually saying "yeah i've read them all" in reference to books about that financial crisis
Not to be dense but what are you getting from that scene? Maybe he’s suggesting Jeremy irons is brilliant and no one is smart enough/smarter than him. To me it seems like they’re just saying to lay your cards on the table.
It’s a very underrated movie with great acting. I don’t think Koppleman and Ryen are a good pairing on this but Ryen loves Michael Lewis so I get why Bill asked him to be on the pod since Koppleman advocated for this movie.
Irons character is great in that he knows what has to be done but he’s asking Sullivan(Quinto) to explain it so simply that Sam(Spacey) has to realize what they are asking has to be done even though it means burning every relationship every trader has in their book of business.
Basically that no one in that room is going to be smart enough to bullshit him to cover their own asses or for any other reason, not even the literal rocket scientist Ultimately it was just in response to Bill and co. being like "wow great writing there, powerful people do that as a tactic" when literally seconds before Tuld's minion is like, yeah he's the smartest one in there
i couldn't stand Billions after one season but i think a lot of hate against Koppelman is overblown on these Rewatchables. I'm only 20 minutes into this one (loved the movie -- great youtube clip movie, which is the modern-day "it's on cable?") and it's fine.
The Big Short would be the Lewis book that aligns with Margin Call not Liars Poker. I thought Margin Call had a fantastic cast but they did a poor job of making the story seem urgent, in my opinion. The Big Short did a much better job in that area.
Had to give up the Koppelman podcast because no one loves himself as much as Koppelman loves himself. He could be interviewing Eddie Vedder and somehow work in that he has a similar process in coming up with art…as in the show Billions
My biggest gripe was that they kept talking about how everyone in the movie is evil. I always viewed the movie as showing these people as mostly not terrible, but the system is evil and they ultimately go along with it because it’s in their self interest. That probably makes them bad people in the end but I didn’t view that as the point of the movie. It also was not a funny pod. Need CR in there and would prefer Sean as well. It’s way more fun with them.
I just saw Seth as some dumb kid who's trying to make a bunch of money but apparently he's the worst person in the movie? Over the people who are literally going to destroy people's lives in a few hours? I guess I was just disappointed with the pod overall because I love that movie
Definitely wasnt funny like a lot tend to be. Agree on CR being there if you are going to have Koppleman on.
The interview with the Donaghy guy was good. There was a longer one on Basketball Illuminati that went into more details
It had virtually zero advertising iirc. I think I found out about it from some "underrated movies" list
Ariel Helwani is useless unless he's talking MMA. He sounded like a total casual acting like Miami only has 1 good player. The wrestling talk was uninspired as usual, acting like MJF is the #1 guy in the business is hilarious considering someone I know saw him in person at Disneyland and he was 5'8''. Bill is gonna draw the rage of the most annoying fanbase on the internet by saying AEW was "floundering" Glad we got another discussion on Kevin Durant after he did absolutely nothing new over the last month
i am generally pretty agnostic to announcers but i am listening to herbstreit for TNF and i can't help but laugh at, "he's going to wish he aimed to the left" on the missed FG that faded right.
Bill speculating on what teams are gonna sell for is the most boring shit, nobody cares if the Suns will sell for 2 billion or 3 or 4.
never mind that his tier list was insane the lakers and knicks are not sharing a tier with the miami heat and phoenix suns
What a blessing to get these as we’re prepping for the hurricane. This might be Apex Mountain for the Rewatcheables.
Zach Lowe randomly dropped that Kevin Arnovitz is no longer at ESPN about an hour into his latest podcast. Hadn’t seen that anywhere
