Hello. Long time lurker first time complainer. those guys spent 10 minutes shitting on movie poker hands and then don’t know that a straight flush beats four of a kind.
they also didn't understand who betrayed bond re: le chiffe's tell despite it literally being addressed in the movie and imo was very important for the story of craig's bond
Ya Sean came off like a poser there since he talks so much about loving poker. Bill is a blackjack guy to my listening knowledge
Re: the tell specifically, I never considered that vesper or anyone else told him. I assumed he faked it to set up a big pot
ALSO they also talked about a Royal Flush as if it's different from a Straight Flush think someone suggested Royal Flush > Four of a Kind > Straight Flush at one point
One of Bill's underrated quirks is that he will namedrop the town and/or theater where he saw a movie
I'm listening to Enemy of the State Rewatchables Lisa Bonet may have surpassed Michelle Pfeiffer in this episode in the span of like 10 minutes as far as Horny Bill goes. He just kind of keeps going way after Sean and Chris stop acknowledging it
Listened to the Casino Royale pod and generally skipped over the poker parts because of this thread. Bill is apparently too good for Across the Spider Verse, and also announced that he will never see Fast X and he's out on the franchise. Shea leaving The Ringer has changed Bill.
Bill and Ryen’s discussion about Ja was pretty awful. 20 games is ok but too long. Anything more is insane and overreach. However, both acknowledge the league knows much more at this point and things could be worse than either of them know. Also, let’s reiterate we don’t like what he’s doing but people in the 80s were worse so that should be a guideline for punishing Ja?!?!?! Also, the league will probably be too hard, but it really looks like Ja is about to throw away his whole career! So the league maybe was soft on him and feels like Ja thumbed his nose. But it doesn’t make sense they’d reprimand him worse the next time he repeats the same mistake? Ja is a massive star and cash cow for the NBA and Nike. Oh and also a human some people may have an interest in helping. Ryen and Bill spent 10 minutes basically saying jack shit and obviously if the league and others feel like this young man is about to throw away his whole future and maybe giving him a big reality check can get him back on track.
I don't really know why anyone is talking about the Ja stuff before the suspension comes out (which is part of why Silver screwed this up so bad by saying what he did). There isn't really a Ja conversation out there that sounds intelligent because no one has any clue what the hell they're even looking at, so you're just setting yourself up for criticism and anger by discussing it.
I didn’t recap the part where they complained people would be speculating about the forthcoming suspension.
Ryen and Bill are missing the mark so badly on Ja. Its not about "punishing" him for the second gun video, its about helping him out with tough love because he clearly doesn't fucking get it. Anything other than a hammer will reinforce that he can do whatever he wants with no repercussions. Its a wake up call, its not punitive.
Exactly they are ignoring the other incidents that weren't as public but just as concerning the gun laser beam in Indiana as well as the incidents with the teenager and at the mall among others
Him bringing his crew to intimidate a minimum wage employee at Footaction because his mom was being a Karen was fucking insane.
Correct. Not sure he was invited or would have gone anyway. Kyle even said he wasn’t sure if Bill was going.
I'm sure Nephew Kyle can get by with having a super awesome job that he only got by being related to Bill
I don’t give RR serious thought, maybe occasionally if he says something really dumb or after an accumulation of smaller things. The whole “I don’t wanna get to know you” with Kyle and not going to the wedding makes me thing RR is definitely out there.
Are we gonna do this thing… where we act like Moddells mgmt and a history of bike and car theft aren’t desired qualifications for podcast producers
I think the lockdown really revved up RR's inner hermit and I dont think he is a big drinker anymore and doesnt want to have a drinking relationship with a guy 18 years younger who he works with. Who knows. I doubt he was even invited to the wedding. Bill not going is odd even though Kyle is his wife's nephew.
Yeah I don’t really think it’s that weird Ryen doesn’t want to hang out with a much younger dude who he works with 2-3x a week? I don’t really hang out with any people I work with outside of a small group every month or so we get a beer
I guess I see getting invited to a wedding different than getting a beer. You guys are right about him declining every request to hang out ever lol
it's one thing to not want to go daydrinking with your coworker. i'd have relented to kyle's requests over the years but that doesn't sound all that appealing. but if the guy wants to hang out, you'd think you'd have him on the boat once or twice or arrange to watch a pats game with him or something. not to mention completely ignoring him at the live show in utah. super weirdo behavior.
Significant difference between booze buddies going out weekly and not ostracizing yourself (while also constantly referencing social experiences and your core friends).
Couldn’t make it through the pod today. Kevin Wiles is terrible. Also Bill was big mad when the other two suggested that Jokic and Murray supplanted AD/Lebron as the best duo over the last 5 years. “HOW IS IT NOT TATUM AND BROWN??!?”
Yeah this guy was awful. Made house seem reasonable The dynamic comes off more to me that Ryen wants to hang out with him but doesn’t want to get shit for it.
Lmao wedding invite is at the beginning of life advice. oh nice also checks in on fires and climate change. what a treat!
haven't listened. Hopped on reddit comments to confirm: Wait, Russillo doesn’t think Canadian Wildfires could be caused by global warming/climate change? [also] Russillo using the excuse that Kyle was aware of when the NBA Finals would be taking place as an excuse for why Kyle didn't invite him to his wedding, as opposed to Kyle getting the hint that Russillo doesn't want to hang out with him? My god, that dude will use any excuse to justify his anti-social behavior.
All true. He does acknowledge his bit with Kyle is partly for content, but RR is strange. Also, I think ceruti seems like a nice dude but is a doofus and follower of Ryen. I did however enjoy him taking jabs at RR’s habits.
you could've given me one billion guesses for the rewatchables and i would never ever guess, "dumb and dumber with jennifer lawrence and bill simmons"
Seems like lots of people here think that talking about sports with people makes them your friend because we talk about sports with our friends I don’t think it’s weird at all that they’re not friends and don’t hang out. its weird as f if bill isn’t going to his nephews wedding unless it’s like 20 people
Fuck traveling cross country to a wedding tbh. Have to be immediate family for me to do that honestly.
Truly disappointing not getting CR and Sean on one of the best comedies the last thirty years. What a poor call.
My 2-3 posts are already too many but my opinion is based on them spending hours a week bsing and sharing personal stories (ie actually getting to know one another). Guy wasn’t invited (allegedly) bc Kyle knew it was the playoffs. RR prob has a few million and is from the east coast and Bill should be going — but obviously Bill and Kyle are core guys.
Separately, I’m still finishing succession. Is the ringer finale content worth going back and listening to once I’m done?
Well the good news is that it is as awkward as you would expect. BS mansplaining to Jennifer Lawrence who John fucking Hughes is has to be in the nadir valley (or on the apex mountain if you're a sicko like me) of the pod.
