Bill Simmons’ podcast gonna have 30 million downloads tomorrow.— Chris Hayes (@chrislhayes.bsky.social) 2025-05-08T01:30:00.564Z
Whomever Bill pods with about this in the next 48 hours needs to have the balls to bring back what Bill said last year about Denver when it went down 0-2 to Minnesota in the same spot about not beating a team with more than 50 wins and this calling their title run into question.
I saw that youtube clip on the "physical media" thing. Is that really a thing for them, 40 yr olds pretending DVDs are nostalgic like Vinyl albums?
but the lack of a personality does not help either. You can tell he is a follower, not authentic to himself. Unless your name is Ryen then you cant see it.
but Russillo totally isn't a Celtics fan, he only watches every Boston team so he can talk to his dad about it
You'd think they realize it because they're teams are fucking universally hated but nope, not an ounce of self awareness
No one would care about Tatum's personality if the Boston media machine that makes up a huge portion of the NBA voices with the biggest platforms didn't spend the last 6 years pushing him down the throat of everyone else. If Tatum was the same player/person in Detroit, Milwaukee or Indiana he would have one of the highest approval rates of any player in the league.
Also is there currently a happier man in America than Zach Lowe? He's so happy just cranking out these daily pods on the NBA now and not having to bring on guests he clearly doesn't vibe with.
if he was on Detroit, Milwaukee, or Indiana instead of each of those teams' current franchise players, they'd be a 6 seed and nobody would have any Jayson Tatum conversations because he'd be All NBA 3rd team at best not after the way his Celtics just blew those last two games!
Tatum isn't even bad, Brown is an insufferable little pussy tho. Other than Brown like their team isn't even bad. Jrue Holiday is actually likeable, Porzingas seems like a good guy, Prichard just works hard and keeps his mouth shut, Al Horford another good guy. Their fans are just the worse people on the fucking planet.
Former Duke Blue Devil Current Boston Celtic all the Kobe stuff pre-written soundbytes he rehearses for the media his Olympic shit and the subsequent outcry yeah...total mystery doesn't help that Doris fellates him anytime he steps on the court either
Tatum and Brown are both incredibly contrived individuals but for different reasons. Jaylen Brown wants to be this fake deep faux-intellectual type, Tatum wants to be a living breathing Gatorade commercial come to life. Neither has any authenticity whatsoever. Say what you want about Ant because you have to take the good and the bad but that man is genuinely himself out there.
Four months ago I posted somewhere on here that Ryan Day is the Jayson Tatum of football coaches and I've never felt better about a comparison.
Boston fans (and media) are like the small kid who finally shits in the kiddie toilet and his parents have to tell him he made the bestest poop ever and pretend clap for him. It's not enough for their teams to win championships, they have to have their players rank above everybody else and get all the awards too. Plus their teams have to be seen as the ultimate gutty underdogs AND dominant juggernauts SIMULTANEOUSLY.
Harden Towns Embiid Brunson Kyrie Lebron Toby Harris Bam PG Booker Beal Ayton Just white boarding a few guys who the knives are typically way more out for.
It’s very much a thing. I don’t hate the idea. Someone justified it by the example of Netflix only having one movie made before 1985 on their platform or something. The idea of protecting physical media makes sense to me for when paramount merges again and decides to zap another thousand things out of the rotation.
Ant is about as Atlanta as it gets. Minimal handlers. Brown had his from so early on that it calculated every decision...which is why he's got no clue who he is. Tatum more than Brown benefits from playing in an insular market that will feed on any slop they are fed, deify any player worth a shit. He'd get a lot more heat if he wasnt protected by the massholes.
Considering we are only purchasing the license to watch a movie when you “buy” it from Amazon or where ever. Physical copies provide long term security. Dogma isn’t available anywhere to stream because of its rights being hung up with the Weinstein group. No sweat, I have the DVD that I can play on the Xbox. Plus dvds still have all the extras that came with it, deleted scenes, making of, etc.
I remember The Matrix dvds being sick. So much extra cool stuff. I have no idea where they are now. My mom probably gave them to the salvation army or something
For the talent surrounding Tatum on the court and the competency that ran the org and coached his teams, he should be having an outstanding career. I think it was a game 6 win or go home 2 years ago vs Philly where harden/embiid choked and couldn’t put them away while Tatum was dog water for 3 quarters. Again, 6ers flawed team vs well constructed Boston. Celtics win the game and the series. Last year, the Celtics get an unreal run of injury luck going through the east in the playoffs.
Was listening to the mission impossible fallout rewatchable since I’ve been rewatching the movies. Probably the most unintentionally funny thing in the history of the podcast is when Bill admits that he wasn’t afraid of heights until 9/11 when they are in the middle of the Apex Mountain segment.
Shoutout to Bill for having the one guest on his pod that could make me not listen to his reaction today. He's not dumb.
He's really leaning into youtube. I'm sure there's extra ad money but just listening to them is fine for me. It wasnt even on spotify when i checked a few minutes ago. That delay is kind of annoying though but tbh I don't really want to listen to Bill's dad But I probably will
Because he wants to get listens on his Celtics segment and then he will release some additional segments to discuss other topics (likely the rest of the playoffs with Mahoney or something)
I use pocketcasts, which seems to work fine for everything else. Maybe he's just trying to ultra monetize this one
And he basically refuses to discuss Tatum/celtics with House. “I’ll have more on Tatum in the next segment”
Bill was salivating at the thought of Finals and Olympics MVP Jason Tatum, the new face of the league. For him, it’s not enough for his favorite team to win. The players on that team have to be on a GOAT level trajectory and universally respected and/or beloved
