to be fair, True Romance still kicks ass. I also like the "where were you when this movie came out" aspect of the pod. I remember exactly where I was living at the time and who got me into John Grisham and The Firm
The only one of the last 4 I've seen is The Firm and I wouldn't call it re-watchable. I'm 33. I love that podcast but wish they'd get back to the variance of movies and hosts, rather than just Sean, Chris, and Bill doing 25+ year old movies that aren't really on TV that much anymore.
Bill, Sean and Chris is the best trio. Chris doing the Brimley impression throughout was killing me. Also, The Firm and almost all Grisham movies are VERY re-watchable.
I don't dislike chris or sean for the rewatchables, I just like hearing other perspectives too. I like Juliet a lot and wish he didn't just pull her in on 'chick flicks.'
This was awful. And then talked about how The Dark Knight doesn’t count as a superhero movie. He loves being pretentious about movies with critics or those in the industry. He told Reitman he thinks the superhero trend in movies is a travesty to cinema but he loves Fast and the Furious and other shitty popcorn movies.
Ocean’s 11, Dazed and Confused, A Few Good Men and Jurassic Park to me are the epitome of what the podcast is about. I have disagreed on a couple of their selections as movies they have done because it’s more their personal favorites vs what the masses would usually rewatch 5-10 times: Michael Clayton (Good movie but it’s never on and it’s not that rewatcheable) Inception (It’s three hours long and you have to pay attention a shit ton. It’s great but not exactly a movie you can just jump in at anytime, IMO) Miami Vice (Never on and only reason they did it is because of their hard on for Michael Mann) Rounders (Saw it in the theaters in 1998, liked it but never saw it again) I would love for them to do movies that are literally on all the time on 7-8 different channels the last 25 years: Shawshank Redemption Pulp Fiction Coming To America Major League Anchorman Top Gun Rocky I-IV Dumb and Dumber
love Michael Clayton. So I am all for it. Zodiac is one of my favorite movies ever. Glad they did it. They do enough podcasts to cover the spectrum. I am not gonna listen to everyone
Agree with your list but do think Rounders is rewatchable was even more so during the poker craze. AFGM, good will hunting, point break...i love those movies so much and the pods they did for them. The firm, like inception is too long but a great movie. Just watched inception the other weekend start to finish for maybe the first time since theaters. So good.
I’ve listened to most of them. It’s my favorite podcast. I’ve listened to the Jaws, Step Brothers, A Few Good Men, Fugitive and Wedding Crashers 2-3 times.
The Watch has some good podcasts this time of year. Jason Mantzoukas on the recent one. Later this month Sam Esmail will do his favorite TV/movies of the year. Also to bitch about Bill, I liked how their "Top 45 sport moments of the year" included Jayson Tatum dunking on Lebron.
Can bill stop interrupting kd with some dumb story about how he likes the Celtics? The Tatum and Kobe bit he always brings up is terrible.
Only ones I haven't listened to are My Best Friend's Wedding Titanic Mad Max (haven't seen it) Friday(the two people doing it are awful and I couldnt listen past 10 mins)
listening to Friday right now. One of my favorite movies. The woman on there is a little to quick to throw water on it too often.
I think Tjarks may actually just be Dustin Hoffman in Rainman There are so many people at the Ringer who are audibly distracting or annoying to listen to.
That’s surprising. I love Vernon. I think he has a great voice for radio / pods. I can’t listen to his pods though because he is always with Kevin O’Connor, who is inarguably the worst. Can’t listen to him.
i'm ruining my Monday and perhaps my entire week by staying up late to hate/glee? listen to this guess the lines on sunday night. i feel like i'm mainlining ZeroPointZero .
As shit as so much of The Ringers content is, the NFL pod with Robert Mays and Kevin Clark is an excellent pod. Those dudes are smart and funny and have tolerable voices in a way that basically none of the NBA staff does. It's the only pod the ringer puts out that i still make sure to catch every episode of.
Lombardi used to be pretty interesting 3 years ago, now all he does is bash the teams and ownership groups he got fired from. That pod has really gone downhill.
I quit listening to his stuff a couple years ago for this reason. He's absurdly arrogant for someone with his history in the sport. "I know Bill Belichick" apparently means you're smarter than everyone else and can just destroy them, even if you were running a personnel department that picked JaMarcus Russell #1 overall.
And Barkevious Mingo at 3 but he loves to trash other front offices like they don’t know what they’re doing I will say his Al Davis impersonations make me laugh
Lombardi is complete and utter trash. He said a couple years ago that the Panthers had one of the best WR corps in the league with Kelvin Benjamin and Ted Ginn.
My Rewatchables Wish List Christmas Vacation (holiday wish) Pulp Fiction Aliens Fifth Element Casino Shawshank Redemption Snatch
I think he will get to most of these. That podcast just won an iTunes award and it is their second most downloaded podcast I believe. Simmons said he wants to do one a week next year if possible.
I want them to get on the How Did This Get Made corner and do some old Stallone and Van Damme movies. Rambo 4, Cobra, Hard Target to name a few. Except I actually love those movies.
Inglorious Basterds would be great I'd like to see Gone Girl, Anchorman and Ex Machina on there, among others.
