No issue with Dave. Good flick.
Lombardi is so bad, it’s incredible that he talks about how easy it is to run a pro football team, a task for which he’s been fired from multiple times.
Saw it my senior year in high school and my girlfriend came out of the movie crying and trying to expound on some bullshit theme in the movie.
Knew I had to break up with her after that.
This has always been my issue with him. I like the GM perspective in all sports because it's rare that those guys get much time in the media over former players, but Lombardi talks like everyone is stupid except for him. I don't care if Al Davis was crazy and made the final call. He still was the top front office guy who drafted JaMarcus Russell #1 in the same draft that had Calvin Johnson, Adrian Peterson, Joe Thomas, Patrick Willis and Darrelle Revis in it.
dude, that's only a top 5 guy at 3 positions and another HOFer or so.
honestly though, when you see this typed out it legit made me laugh.
Gee, thanks for the reminder.
To be fair to Lane Kiffin, he was pushing for Johnson or Peterson. The Raiders also had the huge offer from Cleveland on the table to drop back to 3 and didn’t take it.
Lombardi never lasts anywhere long.
he seems like he would be terrible to work for/with
From a team building standpoint he always came off smug and arrogant. I found it extremely hilarious given his track record and how often he was fired.
But I will admit when he talked game plans and in-game scheming he was usually pretty good with that stuff. The matchup stuff he would mention often was a big factor in games.
Also, I will never forget the episode he did while chomping on food the whole time. Thats a giant pet peeve of mine (people eating while talking on the phone) and the fact he recorded a podcast while doing it drove me nuts.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall is one of my all-time favorite movies. It’s the definition of a rewatchable.
have they done Pulp Fiction on the rewatchables? Saw it was on netflix last night and watched it. What a movie. The Walken scene is incredible.
No, but they will this year. Doing that and Shawshank at some point this year since it's been 25 years since both came out.
Bill's "nobody talks about how San Diego is a great place to live" was absolutely mind-blowing
he's lived in LA for 16 years smh
That's the kind of east coast elitism that cracks me up. Downtown SD has a vibrant food and beer scene...I loved their "not much going on there" comment too. Little Italy is better than the gaslamp for sure.
I would kill to be able to live my Oregon lifestyle in San Diego
I’m lifelong east coast. everyone here knows San Diego is a great place to live even if we haven’t been there.
He hasn’t made the 2 hour trip to Petco since he moved to LA, therefore no one goes to San Diego.
I’m in Tampa. Everyone knows San Diego is the tits.
Bill has some shit opinions but I still love him. He’s given me and continues to give me more free, great content than anyone in sports/pop culture the last 17 years.
i personally feel like san diego isn't talked about much. that could be where i live, though, with its focus on mountains and hiking-type outdoor sports. but when i hear talk of west coast cities, i hear and think of LA for southern california, SF/Oakland for northern california, Portland for oregon, and Seattle for washington. and if you'd move east from strictly pacific-bordering states, i'd think of vegas, phoenix, denver, and maybe boise.
i guess i don't think about san diego in the same way i don't think about san jose or ontario or fresno much. it also doesn't help that SD only has the padres now.
i'll note, though, that i didn't listen to whatever podcast simmons made this statement.
I feel like you post this every time there is a legit criticism.
Out of everywhere in the country I honestly feel like San Diego is the number one place people talk about as being an amazing place to live if they could afford it.
could just be a weird regional thing. i know three people that have moved to SD in the last 2-2.5 years and they've all moved just to be closer for opportunities and interviews in LA. one is still in SD and enjoying her life, obviously, but still wants to get to LA. but maybe that's more of a destination for oregon people or people who are ~30 and looking for .a career.
I probably do.
Yeah it’s a super tight and small job market so that makes complete sense.
Feel like Russillo and Bill undermined their own argument on players wanting their own team. Pretty certain I’ve heard them criticize players for WANTING to form super teams.
So according to them...
- Jordan never would’ve left to form a super team! I can’t believd these stars wanna team up.
- No one wants to play together and that’s been the problem in the 2000s. They all want their own team.
Tf are the two of you talking about?
Also, does Chris Vernon suck on the nba pod or am I being harsh?
I don’t like him typically, but I literally turned the pod off when I didn’t 10 variations of KOC’s name. ya know whats really awesome for people to listen to passives? Fucking inside jokes!
Chris Vernon has the worst voice in the world. He is terrible on that pod. But honestly that pod sucks overall
He's awful. I like Kevin O'shutthefuckupvernon but I don't listen to that pod because of how annoying Vernon is.
Vernon and OC are an odd pairing.
If we aggregated the list of ppl this thread has said has a terrible voice, it’d seriously be 80% of the Ringer staff.
Sadly, I think that listt would have consensus approval. It isn’t just people being dicks.
I swear i think y’all have KOC’s and Vernon’s voice mixed up. I can’t even read KOC’s articles because i read them in his voice. Vernon has a great voice for pods/radio.
Forgetting Sarah Marshall rewatcheable was good.
About 1/2 way through, rewatched FSM over the weekend and I still found myself skipping through some of the awkward/cringy parts. Next week’s episode featuring Broadcast News will be rough, haven’t seen it and I’m not a big Albert Brooks/William Hurt guy
meet me in temecula
Broadcast News is really good and I’m surprised it’s not on more.
uh oh, Sal might get booted from the Ringer if he continues to badmouth their number one obsession
the NBA that is, not the Celtics (or A Star is Born, for that matter)
Corner 3 is by far their best nba pod to me, especially once you get used to their voices. but they have the best mix of actual nba and draft talk of the ones I've listened to
rewatchables has, at the very least, made me aware that I have never heard of a lot of movies from when I was in diapers.
Bill saying Tatum might be overrated is pretty funny seeing as that he’s been the main person overrating him.
I've been listening to guess the lines for like 10-11 years? Bill was definitely the first podcast I ever got into.
I was floored when he admitted he may not be as good as he thought and that maybe Ingram was the better trade bait for AD.
I thought he’d at least put a qualifying statement like “he’s having a sophomore slump but he’s still the better prospect”. He went from “he’s a future MVP candidate” to “maybe he’s overrated” pretty quick.
Bill: I wish I had a type for hiring at the Ringer that people could talk about.
Me: people with annoying fucking voices.
There has to be something behind the scenes with Simmons and LeBron that we don't know about, every single pod he puts out now is just trashing him on an excessive level, give it a fucking rest
Maybe simmons wanted to do some kind of ringer-lebron partnership now that they are both in la and got big-timed
Mix maybe you should consider a partnership with TMB and Mario Herzonja
"What up, lebron? You're in LA, I'm in LA..."
