My high school is showing their appreciation to their teachers by making the 50 cent coffee from the school coffee cart free on Wednesday.
Had a student last week post a video of himself vaping in class on group snapchat. Admin/SROs saw it on a girl's phone while they were investigating something completely unrelated. The student thought the girl had snitched on him so he sent a snap to the same group that admin/SROs were literally monitoring in real time telling them they should beat the girl up. Just great decision making all around by this scholar.
My teacher appreciation week was three weeks ago but am I really the only one whose school takes it seriously? Not bragging, I’m just curious. Spoiler Day 1 - Breakfast (wraps and coffee) and s’mores Day 2 - Snack table (restocked all day) and tie-dye sweatshirts (w/school logo) Day 3 - Burrito truck for lunch Day 4 - “Book Store” and snack table Day 5 - Coffee and Duck Donuts, Windbreaker with school logo, half day with trivia after work (including open bar and snacks)
Day 1 - fancy coffee and a choice of biscuit Day 2 - amazing crepes at lunch, and apparently a fancy cookie but some shit head took a bunch, so many teachers didn’t get one. Day 3 - ice cream Day 4 - lunch from Moe’s Day 5 - lunch from a local BBQ guy
We got Honeybaked Ham to cater lunch one day. And the popsicle and candy. Like a miniature Hershey in my mailbox that says “You’re a sweet teacher” or some lame shit.
Drilled it on the first try, and the 4th graders waiting on PE to start went absolutely nuts. Got $25 amazon credit .
We get meals everyday for lunch and a $10 Amazon card. However this year we decided this was also the week to start and complete all of our state testing. Luckily I’m out on paternity leave.
Paraphrased email conversation with a parent about baseball workouts for upcoming seventh graders: Mom: “Hi Coach Barnes, I didn’t receive any info about this tryout you’re having, I just wanted to know if the team will be picked from it” (Includes pic of pamphlet I gave to her son THAT DAY in the body)” Me: “No, ma’am, it’s just a workout to evaluate players before summer, we won’t make any team decisions based on it.” Mom: “Will the tryout be during school or after?” Me: “…after” Mom: “So if they come to this tryout, they’re on the team?” Me: “As I said ma’am, it’s not a tryout. I’m not choosing players for next year based on two days the year before” Mom: “Okay, looking forward to our first year of school ball!!”
Its not a good pen, but at least give them a note pad or something they can actually use for fucks sake.
Today was the last day for students for are exempt from exams. Got a $10 Subway gift card from one student and a $50 Malco Theaters gift card from another.
Missed this thread during Teacher Appreciation week. Administration got us each 1/3 of a Wegmans sub. Parents bought pizza and snacks.
The number of kids disappointed this week that I'm moving away and won't be there to teach them next year was incredibly surprising and overwhelming but I still feel pretty good about my decision not to return to the classroom. Maybe in a different setting where I don't have 4 or 5 preps per day I'll give it a go again down the road but for now I'm incredibly relieved.
Got my wish, no longer teaching APUSH next year Me: So I’m teaching World History next year, right? Principal: No, you’re teaching Government and Economics. Me:
I used to always liked summer up through like three years ago. Before I either had summer off for school or had a pretty slow summer in terms of work due to the nature of college athletics. Summers were always a nice relief after all the burnout from the school year. But now the bullshit is just spread out year round in a much more manageable schedule, so now it's just like same bullshit as every other time of the year but now hot as hell.
I’d love to teach an AP class. Those teachers do nothing from the time the kids take the test until the end of the year.
Same. June 15. Spoiler Bad news is it was supposed to be June 10. Good news is all teachers get a $1k bonus for sticking around for an extra three days. Bad news is it’s taxed as a bonus. Good news is that grades will already be in and we won’t do anything those three days.
Had a kid who didn’t show up for his final exam on Wednesday. Told me “I thought I was exempt.” To be exempt you have to have an A for the semester. This mother fucker’s average was 74.
Stupidly agreed to cover/present two IEPs this morning for two K students who haven't been to school before and just joined their respective classes 2 weeks ago. I am not familiar with either of the students, just received an email from a special ed admin thanking me for picking them up and oh by the way the mom of the latter IEP is well versed in the laws and legal procedures of IEPs and special education. I'm supposed to be having fun with other teachers. Might be a get high night and enjoy a couple glasses of wine on the patio.
Individual Education Program and kindergarten An IEP is a long legal process and document for students with disabilities. It explains the whos whats wheres and whens of the student's special education services and minutes, goals, accommodations etc Have to explain to the well-versed in law mother that retaining her son in kindergarten is a beneficial route to consider
