Monday is Memorial Day. I’ll be drinking one too, whilst smoking a brisket. Have one Tuesday for me while we review the Rhetorical triangle.
One of my 2nd grade friends brought a casing to school in anticipation for show and tell. Godfather gave it to him evidently.
The policeman passed casings out to all of the scouts the last time we took a tour of the police station. We’ve taken tours of the firehouse ever since.
All of my 9th graders were confused first period when I actually gave them actual work and attempted to teach.
Turns out his godfather did in fact give it to him. We talked through why it's not appropriate to bring it to school. He said that's okay, he understands, and that his godfather has lots of them because godfather's car/godfather gets shot at sometimes.
Damn. Just got the call. Moving classrooms for the 6th time this fall. My room was a former typing lab, so it was much bigger than the room I'm going to, but they're turning my old room into 2 classrooms. Blech.
I had been in my current one for 4 years. Was great. Supposedly they are going to build a new fine arts annex in the future, where I'm supposed to get a room with stadium seating.
So I very recently had the opportunity for a potential job at USF just kind of fall in to my lap out of nowhere. Had my first convo with the director today and it went well. Assuming my convo with the department head goes well on Tuesday and I think I'll be getting an offer.
- Principal just messaged our US History team from last year to let us know that we scored 52 points on the accountability model for the state test. - Apparently that means we had a 26% proficiency rate for US History, which is double from the 13% we had the previous year - I’m happy but I really hope that I don’t have to teach APUSH again next year.
Went up to school today to check out my room. Had to strike a deal with principal to max my rosters at 30, instead of the usual 35. 30 kids in that room with be TIGHT, any more would be impossible.
application submitted and already being included on internal communications. Just have to wait a week for the application period to close and then they'll make an offer.
Working in their multidisciplinary evaluation center as a school psychologist. Basically what I do now but with a more diagnostic and consultation focus and without the bureaucratic bullshit of working for a school district or in a school.
I’m good. Charter school in Northern NJ. CRT missed us so I’m assuming this will also. I am concerned about our country as a whole, on the other hand.
I misinterpreted this. The point meanings are the opposite of what I stated. The principal informed me that the 52 points was actually 52% proficiency rate for the test, which is monumental increase over the 13% from last year.
A school district in Arkansas’ school board just adopted this new policy. Vape policy I agree with and is pretty standard for the rest of the state. The other shit is insanity
That vape policy is tame compared to other districts. Mine is automatic 10 day OSS. The rest is indeed insane.
Arkansas teachers must have terrible contracts because there's no way they'll be able have the manpower to enforce those rules. Also, I don't know when people in decision making capacity will realize punitive measures don't work and typically create more problems.
We’ve got a $1.6 billion budget surplus right now in the state and our teachers are paid the 3rd lowest salaries in the country, and our state reps don’t want to support a salary increase for teachers. A 5k salary increase for each teacher would cost like $150 million and make us much more competitive in the region. It’s insane how poorly we prioritize quality teachers and education in this state. I’ve sent dozens of emails to my reps with little to no response. They’re getting peppered by everyone
Our governor sat next to a guy who is getting MILLIONS of public dollars to open ultra right-wing private charter schools in our state and then said Tennessee’s public school teachers come from the “dumbest parts of the dumbest colleges.” and STILL has refused to distance himself from those comments.
I might not like Tate Reeves but he managed to give Mississippi Teachers pay raises in 3 of the last 4 years
Look, I’m a vet. There are lots of smart vets out there. They are not the ones that are going to take these jobs. The ones taking these jobs are the Senior NCO Marine I worked with who worked with satellites every day and was still a flat earther.
Was just notified that my references and paperwork is being submitted to the director of HR to put together an offer letter. Assuming no hiccups, my start date at USF is tentatively set for August 22nd.
Crazy blast from the past. The girl who said “this ISN’T Geography class!” is now an elementary school teacher in my district. Subject: Social Studies aka Geography class
Starting the year on paternity leave and not teaching until thanksgiving. Very happy for the next couple months.
She teaches English and Social Studies. She's paired with another teacher who teaches Math and Science.
We changed classes starting in 4th grade in the mid 90s, so I had a math, science, social studies, and English teacher during the day. Then we also had two electives each day that may rotate depending on day. This was podunk Alabama, although a great elementary school.
