Following up on this, tried the Great Divide 21st Anniversary sour ale. Not really sour at all. I thought it was fine but was slightly disappointed.
Went to get some growlers filled. They just had fucking four packs of KBS sitting on the counter. Today was a good day.
Back in Charleston for abt 16 hrs. Stopped by Westbrook and grabbed a Mr Chipper, 2 Mexican Cakes, a Key Lime Gose, and the Passionfruit IPA. Love the Mr. Chipper from last year. Hoping the Mexican Cake is more like 2015s version bc I wasn't a fan of 2016s version. And looking forward to trying the other two.
How is the Key Lime Gose? I'll be at Westbrook next month, won't be drinking there but will be grabbing some stuff to go.
surprised to hear they have Cake, I figured it would be gone already. I will be there on the 11th probably, hoping it holds out til then.
Wildly inexpensive too. I feel like you have to fight for it at your average shop but there it seemed aplenty and was only $15. Mind was blown. Bought 2 so I could have one that night and save one for next year.
As an aside, one of my good friends live down there and is going by next week. If anyone wants one, let me know and I'll have him grab me one and I'll pick it up in July and mail it off then.
My wife's parents bought me a vacuum sealed growler for Christmas this past year. Noticed last night after filling it that it's leaking in several places. What do you guys recommend for personal growlers?
Bad day for me. I've slowed way down on beer and eating like an asshole to lose some lbs, but you got to live. Got a growler of a Belgian UP A out of Single Speed Brewery in Cedar Falls, IS. Local grocery store chain had it. The 70ish y/o lady who filled it was a couple of years behind. Beer was good
gordon bombay I would say Three Floyds but it's a drive. Blessed user Gordon Bombay sent me some beers from Hailstorm and they were delightful. Pipeworks and Half Acre both make good stuff.
Band of Bohemia is the first Michelin rated brewpub. https://chicago.eater.com/maps/chicago-best-brewery-map From the above link the one I would say to avoid is Haymarket Revolution makes good beers and I hear that the Lagunitas tour is a lot of fun.
Half Acre Revolution Haymarket (people ITT seem to hate it but I like it, it's near a lot of good restaurants so not like you have to go out of your way to try it) Piece (beer is just ok but great pizza) Local Option Vice District Bars: The Map Room (was cash-only when I went about 2 years ago so be prepared) Sheffield's (not far from Wrigley) Fountainhead
Haymarket is fine, it just seems like a place that should be at Western and Grace. It just doesn't live up to the standard of that location. Almost every other restaurant on the block is world class.
Last time I was there was just to grab a beer while waiting for a table at Little Goat. Served its purpose.
Forbidden root is probably putting out the best beer in the city proper right now. Corridor a close second, both places have good food and are worth checking out. A lot of good breweries just outside the city in the burbs (Hailstorm, Mikerphone). I think Half Acre released their summer seasonal beer today? I live by Local Option that is my go to beer bar
Heading to Burial tomorrow for BBA Skillet Donut Stout and a DIPA release. Hope to have some extras for trades, but pratyk is already locked in for the box of goodness he sent me from Trillium!
Are those first two relatively new? I haven't really been in Chicago for about 2 years. Used to be (at minimum) an annual stop between work training and one of my best friends living in Wrigleyville. Last time I was there I think everyone was still all about Pipeworks. Liked that Local Option had their own stuff but also some excellent guest taps.
Yeah, wish I could get up there today for some but can't make it. Hope to find some BBA SDS around CLT in the near future, but not sure how limited it will be. Enjoy.
construxboy or any other CLT people, I have a 5-hour layover to kill at CLT Tuesday morning on my way to Aruba. Any notable spots to check out? My go-to is NoDa's at 1897 Market but I've got 6 AM-11 AM more or less so I can cover the whole damn airport.
That's a good spot. There is another Carolina bar, can't think of the name, down A terminal that has more local options and then a Bad Daddy's burger bar that has some good local beers down C terminal. Enjoy Aruba. Just got back from 5 days at the Hyatt. Great time.
Everyone I've been with hated it. Was gonna get one at craft and draft the other day but after seeing a few people drink one I was all nope nope
Occasionally, but I prefer Good Bottle Company in South End or Salud in NoDa. I just live way south of the city so it's hard to get to them to chase beer. Lots of times I end up at Vintner on Providence near 485S. Overpriced, but they have a lot of good beer.
How have I not heard of Good Bottle? That place looks amazing, based on their website. Thanks for the heads up.
We need another Good Bottle meet up. And you need to join in on one of the Tap takeovers at Custom Home Pubs.
