Any LA Beer peeps out there? I've got an entire day on 1/2 to kill going to breweries in LA. What's recommended? Was looking at Mumford, Angel City, Indie, and Iron Triangle. Is there any amazing regional beer sold in LA that's not local that might not make it to the East Coast I need to ship back?
If he likes that style and AleSmith is available around him, tell him to check out .394 San Diego Pale Ale. Similar taste profile to the citrus NE IPA, but the bitterness is dialed back it being a Pale Ale and all.
Killed some Aslin stouts and some other interesting beers tonight. Mini share between me and my friend who is down from dc. I say mini share but we went through 15+ beers. Lost Forty, Lucky Town, Southern Prohibition, Great Raft, Hudson Valley. A couple others. Went to dinner and finished with a Prairie Noir. All in all, great beer night.
Got some good beer recommendations from Fargin' Icehole for the Hampton Roads area as I attempt to survive several days with the in-laws. sulli520 heard you might be the guy to ask about DC, where I’ll be heading in a few days? I’m not as active ITT as I once was, but it’s still the best for recommendations! God bless beer.
Where are you all staying? Will you have a car? Do you want just beer recs or would you like restaurant recs for the family, things to do, etc?
Beer recs should be fine as I have a pal in the city who’s going to show us around. We’re staying in Capitol Hill & will have a car. Thanks!
For bottle shops, Craft beer cellar on h street and h street Whole Foods are close to you and have fair prices, you will have to drive to them. Schienders will be walking distance for you but they can be expensive. The new bruery spot is open by union market, that is a short drive also. For beer bars, little miss whiskey on h street and union market. Other bars worth hitting that will be a drive are Sovereign in Georgetown, meridian pint in Columbia heights, and anxo cidery is Bloomingdale. Aslin and ocelot will be a 45 min drive on a toll road. You can’t drink at aslin but can at ocelot. Ocelot has a great taproom. Dominion wine and beer is worth a visit if you are by Tyson’s corner or coming to or from aslin/ocelot.
New York bros My cousin is a chef from a San Fran Michelin Star restaurant. Moved to NYC and just left his job at 11 Madison to open up a long format beer pairing focused restaurant with the people that own Tørst
I'm sure others have opened that are just as good but for a long time, Churchkey was considered THE beer bar in DC.
Pretty Things was one of my favorite breweries before they abruptly shut shop & got lucky that the restaurant had a few bottles stashed away & added them to the menu today. 2014 Barbapapa - it's been a while since I downed a whole bomber of a RIS.
Craft Brewers Conference. It's a pretty big event with close to 300 breweries attending or something like that. You should come. You're welcome.
Pretty damn delicious. I’m slowly working my way into stouts and porters so maybe my tastes are off but I enjoyed it thoroughly.
Anyone have brewery/bar recommendations for Austin? Thinking of taking a post-busy season trip there at the end of April. Planning to just eat and drink for about 4 days.
Yeah jester king is a bit outside of town but it is fantastic mostly outside tho make sure it’s a nice day.
I like it. It is smooth for a dark beer. Not as good as the oatmeal stout. My niece lives in Oregon so she brought me a bunch of Oregon Brews.
