Shit I forgot about the Modern Times thing. There are a couple of upcoming releases in May that I am holding out for, so probably good I didn't do the MT releases.
A buddy in AZ sent me Tombstone beers (really good btw) so trying to return the favor. Trip to DTLA should be fun. Haven’t been to the MT DTLA.
Imagine driving multiple hours and waiting more hours in the rain for 2 cans of king Julius when you can go to Hill Farmstead and wait ten mins in the line under a roof for a whole case of Society and Solitude #10
So my buddy is in Boston for work and just happened to be going to Treehouse today, he didn't even know they were releasing KJ until he got there. We will be drinking them Friday night, will report back.
And yes, it sucks that he A) Could only get 2 cans of KJ B) Treehouse wasn't serving any beer on tap C) Had to drive and wait in line but he did also get 20 cans of Bright, 20 cans of Lights On, and 20 Cans of Ssssappp. So it's not like it's all for 2 cans of beer. And I know the Boston people here are very much pro-trillium over treehouse, but I had something like 14 Trillium beers when I was in Boston and none of them were as good as the worst Treehouse beer I drank.
DC next week for a wedding. Getting in Thursday and leaving Monday so time to hit up Aslin and hopefully a few other spots.
Where are you staying and will you have a car or will you be using our shitty public transportation system?
Shitty public transit. Staying at or near the Hay-Adams Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Need to find a spot closer to the airport for Sunday night still, looking now.
That’s a very nice and haunted hotel haha. You will be less than a mile from CityCenter, there are a lot of really good restaurants there including momofuku. City taphouse is also there, it’s ok but not worth visiting. Churchkey is a mile from Hay-Adams, they open at 4 everyday. They will have aslin and veil on draft. Sovereign is about 1.5 miles away in Georgetown, if you enjoy lambics, visit there. None of the breweries in dc proper are very good, I would only rec hitting right proper. Aslin is a hike, they open at 3 on the weekdays and only have cans to go. Unless they release a stout, the lines aren’t bad and they will not sell out for a few days. Ocelot is close to aslin and is def worth a stop. Craft beer cellar, Calvert woodley, Schneider's, and Cairo are good bottle shops to hit in dc. 1 West is a shitty bottle shop but worth a visit. They will have almost any beer you want with a huge markup. They sell months old Pliny for $30. Union market is worth the trip, the bruery has a store there and it’s close to craft beer cellar. Bad Saint is a great restaurant, if you have the time to wait inline, eat there.
Thanks man! Definitely planning on hitting Churchkey one day, probably Thursday after lunch some time. Figure since I have pretty much all of Sunday to dick around I might hike it further outside of the city just to see. Had a lot of Alsin, but I'm definitely keeping an eye on their releases. Might also try to hit a museum or two throughout the weekend if it can be squeezed in. Probably just Friday.
If i wasn't running on 2 hours of sleep, I'd have written something up here. oh well. at the end of hte day, it's just beer.
Love their stuff. Kitten Biscuits from them is also great. New Anthem Brewery is also good out of Wilmington.
Have you had any Wrightsville Beach brewing? It's like 2 minutes from my grandmother's but I've never been
Have not. I'm on Wrightsville every summer so I'll check them out. Lighthouse Bottle shop on WB is one of my favorite all time bottle shops. They always have great stuff.
Yeah that's where I always stop here to get beer, great place. Wrightsville Beach brewing is a little off the beach (corner of Greenville loop and oleander). The reviews look great but I don't know if that means much
I love drinking local so I'll definitely check em out. WBC and NA put out such good stuff that I'm pretty happy all week when I'm there.
Fargin' Icehole that Wrightsville Beach brewery was badass. Really great facility. We didn't eat but food looked awesome. Had like 30 beers on tap, had some really good ones. Definitely recommend
It’s a cool spot and they seem like good guys but “it’s pretty decent” is how I typically feel about their beers.
Do they bottle/can or growler/crowler? Most of the beer I consume in Wrightsville is on a boat so "to go" is my preferred method.
Guys told me they just bought a bigger place down the street to expand. Seems like they're doing really well for being 2 years in
Opened up another can and it was pretty good and better than what I had yesterday. The dark farmhouse ale they recommended that I got a crowler of was nothing special.
Fargin' Icehole I've had a few more wrighstville beach brewing beers now and some of them are just kind of whatever. 100% in on the tarticous IPA and the puppy drum pale though
Like I said I like local shit so I'm gonna try them regardless. Stiff competition though with WBC and NA right there. Plus Lighthouse always has WB Key lime Gose and I can't get that up here. It's a great boat beer as I'm sure you know.
Stop by bearded iris and southern grist if you get a chance. The events in town this week are unreal.
That bottle share was unreal. I'll be at Butchertown Hall, Barista Parlor and either Kuchnia & Keller or LA Jackson today.
