Thanks. I think I read that dark beers require more malt- would you recommend using an extract or is it worth mashing my own?
I was just in KC yesterday, but the only beers I bought were from STL surprisingly(side project and perennial).
Don’t see these too often in the bay so I knew I had to pick them up a few months back when I had the chance. Thoroughly enjoyed all of them but the hazelnut was probably my favorite: We finished the night off with this beaut: Will make my NY resolution to drop some weight easier since these probably helped me put on a couple pounds last night. Well worth it.
we have added some really strong breweries lately. BKS is probably our best overall at the moment. where did you pick up the side project stuff?
Well the answer to how cold and for how long does it take for beer in your garage to freeze has been answered
Well I don't have an exact answer really, the weather since Friday until today in Chicago area resulted in frosty beer. My garage has 28 degrees on the opener, but the beer was on the floor and close to the outer wall and a window so it is colder over there. It's been negative/single digits since Saturday here. Before that my garage was probably 50 degrees ish before the cold spell
Yeah… so many factors including air flow, positioning even within the case, alc content and things like that too… but basically below 0 or single digits for multiple days for you
Used to be really into beers and used to trade some with some of y’all. Moved from beer to bourbon, but I’d like to get back into some beer too. But I can’t drink IPAs anymore. Any good lager, Bock, Brown Ale, or Pilsner recs?
My focus is on drinking local as much as possible now that there are great breweries everywhere. I like IPAs but they still suck up a lot of the attention.
That’s a good call. Seems like everyone local still pumps out a ton of IPAs and Double IPAs, but I know I can find something that doesn’t make my guts go nuts. I love sours but only in the summer really. Thanks!
First beers in about 3 months. Picked up a 4 pack to help me through some house projects. Turning Point still making some really good beers.
Victory Hop Devil and Prima Pils are so good but I haven’t seen them in forever. Everything from them is now Golden Monkey or some version of Sour Monkey.
Former boss turned friend came over for beers tonight. 2014 breakfast stout and prairie bomb are still drinking well. 2022 coffee bcs was start of the show. 30th anniversary whatever was aight. Jorts Mertes said hello
Who's thw guy that opened a brewery years ago? How old are those bottles now, the ones from early in the program? Still drinkable? Forgot I had them.
Best breweries in Minnesota? Preferably ones that can enough for distribution to Iowa. We have Surly and Summit down here, looking to add a couple more. #Minnesota Golden Gophers #Minnesota Twins #Minnesota Vikings
We are big fans of Fair State. We find some of their stuff at local liquor stores, outside the metro, so they must have some greater distribution. Mirror Universe appears to be their most popular one that sells around central MN at liquor stores and restaurants.
BlackStack Lupulin Falling Knife Barrel Theory Drastic Measures Bent Paddle (Duluth) Ursa Minor (Duluth) Castle Danger (Two Harbors)
They’re on my short list. Previous distributor that had them went under. They got picked back up down here as well. I saw they filed for bankruptcy but sounds like they’ll be around still. Not sure how I forgot about them. Premium, Nordeast, and Blu are all fantastic beers. Good stuff. I only know Lupulin, Barrel Theory, and BlackStack. I’ll have to do a little research on the others. Appreciate the input guys.
On that same note, if there’s any breweries nation wide that are can’t miss and might be open to distro in Iowa I’m all ears. Most of ours are Midwest based but we do have KCBC out of New York, Bravus (NA Brewery in California) and a couple others who ship.
I've been drinking a lot of Solemn Oath from Naperville/Chicago lately. Their Small Wave City Club Hazy IPA and Lu Kolch are very good. If they happen to distribute in Iowa check them out
almost everyone is looking for opportunities right now, it’s tough in the midsized brewery world. Also if you’re not diving head first into the thc seltzer market you’re doing it all wrong at the moment.
My fridge staples are: New Glarus Moon Man Maplewood Son of Juice The two Solemn Oath I mentioned. Half Acre Bodem I will be drinking a shit load of Kid Kolch this season (also New Glarus) It's just hard for me to not spam the shit out of the good New Glarus offerings when Woodman's in Kenosha is selling it for $13 a 12 pack
My list is based on my opinion of quality. They may be pretty small for production/distribution but the quality is high.
