Spoiler: possibly big spoiler Spoiler: don't read unless you read the other one I posted weeks ago about the big, suspected mid-season finale death The Spoiling Dead Fans aren't releasing their usual Q&A for the mid-season finale. If the previous spoiler they hinted at (and I posted somewhere in here) is true that would make sense. Riggs (Carl) is pretty internet savvy so it wouldn't surprise me at all if he reached out to TSDF and asked them not to completely spoil his death.
Will be interesting to see how the show shapes up going forward. Carl still a pretty huge factor in the comics.
Reading the show subreddit and apparently this was all Gimple's decision. Riggs didn't want out, actually just bought a house in Georgia before he found out. There is a ton of shit moving forward that is just out the window now and comic readers who have remained big fans of the show are pretty upset. It's nice being indifferent to it at this point.
Did I miss where Carl got bit, or did they just throw it in there and not show it (as they tend to do)?
Happened in episode 6. You see he throws the one walker aside then another one gets right on him. The one he threw aside recovers and comes back in for a chomp. You can see when Carl finally gets up that he looks down at his torso where he was bit. It's why he was writing a letter to his dad at the beginning of tonight's episode and also why he would have been fine if Negan killed him. I actually remember watching that episode and seeing the walker coming back in towards Carl and just thinking to myself "guess the extra got a little overzealous and decided to get back into the frame" since Carl didn't reveal the bite to his buddy or anyone else and chalked it up to the show never paying attention to detail. Turns out they actually were paying attention to detail and just concealed the full extent of what happened there.
Yeah not sure where they’re going but he is a major character. Figured they’d off Darryl or Carol but not Carl as he has such a huge role.
I'm not upset because I hated Carl in the TV show. But I have no confidence that they'll get correct the aftermath of this decision. At least when they killed Andrea they essentially just replaced her comic story arc with Michone and shifted a few other things around so it ultimately wasn't that big of a deal. But some of the very significant stuff that happens in the comics just can't happen in the show without Carl since there is no other male teenager on the show. This also likely seals up that the comic and the show will have very different endings. Pretty sure I've read that part of the end game for the comic is all about Carl.
I've mentioned in here before that the very first time I saw Kirkman on The Talking Dead (pretty sure it was its first episode ever) I just felt like he didn't care about anything but his money. Read an interview with Riggs last night and they asked him if he had talked to Kirkman about Carl dying and how he felt about it since Carl is such a huge part of the comics and Riggs said he hasn't even talked to Kirkman since maybe Comic Con in July. Said he only ever talked to him at press stuff. I mean, I had the guy pegged but it's incredible how little he cares about his own work.
Riggs did reach out to them and ask them not to spoil the mid-season finale. There's a screencap of his PM to one of TSDF's people asking them not to spoil it but it's so tiny it's not worth posting here. Was just very polite and asked if they wouldn't mind not doing what he knew they'd be able to once their sources told them what happened. But something interesting was that he also said "out of respect for me, for Carl, and for one of the last few seasons of the show." With Carl dead it would make sense for the show to end sooner than many expected. And with the ratings continuing to decline (Carl's death isn't going to help it regardless of how most probably felt about him on the show - people were still holding out hope for what would have been some of his most involved work in the series after All Out War) you gotta figure the show can't go on for 15, 20, 30 seasons like AMC execs wished it could.
I don’t mind them killing him off, but I still hate how they handle the zombies in this show. They’re literally only dangerous when the plot needs them to be. In one scene, somebody will chop through a dozen of them with little trouble. In another, somebody will inexplicably stare at a zombie as they slowly walk towards them, then decide the best course of action is to just use a stiff arm while the zombie bear hugs them. With the way they portray zombies 90% of the time, the only death by zombie should be due to a large hoard, or one surprising somebody, like jumping out of a closet or falling on them or something. It makes these scenes more annoying than emotional.
Didn’t show how Maggie got back to the hilltop without the saviors, didn’t show what happened after the car accident and how carol got away, and so many other little things. Weak.
Yeah I don't understand the car accident. And then all of a sudden the 3 people in the car were in separate areas...not to mention one as a prisoner.
Bugs the crap out of me that someone can be bit with tears in their skin but their clothes are just fine. Just so much lazy, stupid writing going on now.
Not sure if you saw the video above but Carl wasn't bit in the mid-season finale. He was bit in episode 6. It's why he was writing a letter to his dad at the beginning of the mid-season finale and fine with Negan killing him. He knew he was gonna die.
Such awesome writing Send gay dude and emo teen to ask Oceanside colony to join them. Stop and get truck load of booze to sweeten the deal Park outside colony territory and wait for them to show up Shoot the first colony member they see
I still don't understand why Daryl etc decided to change the plan and tried to get all the walkers inside.
Show is straight dog shit anymore. Think they are going to show that Eugene had the saviors kill all the workers to make zombie bait, then they killed all the zombies after they are distracted.
A character that's been on since the very beginning dying and it brings zero emotion to me is fitting for this show
I'm behind a little but I swear his eyes looked like they turned before this commercial break and now he's talking again
I was thinking the same thing. I was ready to change the channel. If they’d killed off a dog I would’ve been more emotional.
So how did it finally happen? I know about him getting bit, but did he off himself or make his dad do it?
Turned out he didn't actually get bit. He was just sick of that haircut he's been rocking for a few seasons so he finally decided to end it all.
