I didn't really like the lineup on the pikes. Like 7 super, super secondary characters and then 3 more main characters who still weren't main enough. The biggest impact was Henry and it's not because anyone likes him. It's because of Carol. Swap Rosita for Enid and Kelly for Frankie and I think it's solid so it wasn't too far off but still just didn't feel as powerful as I think it should have. The Rosita misdirect from Gabriel/Eugene saying they needed to speak with "her" was cheap and a bit unfair to Tara. People were like "OMG THEY KILLED ROSITA?!?! Oh, it's Tara." And then I don't think Frankie has been in a single episode this season and they bring her to the fair and have her interact with Henry for 10 seconds just so they can put her on a pike without people being completely confused as to who she even is. The whole reveal of the pikes was well done though with the cutting back and forth between where they were missing and where they ended up. Think they should have ended the episode after that though. Have Siddiq talking to everyone to open the next episode. Let the pikes linger.
I’m glad they piked who they did. It would have liked to see one more main character get it. Most of those characters story’s were boring and headed nowhere.
Another thing that bugs me is what happened to all the guns and bullets? Eugene knows how to make more bullets so why not make as many as you can. I know we jumped 6-8 years in the storyline but you can’t tell me you wouldn’t have a stash by then.
I try my best to not complain about this shit because this season has been much better than recent seasons. That being said, I often question why not just snipe alpha at the gate? The way they pull off headshots with handguns... this shouldn't be difficult.
Yeah you now know who alpha and beta are. Snipe them out and boom whispers are no more. In a post apocalyptic world I’d be more inclined to shoot first ask second.
On that same note, why didn’t Alpha just kill all the main characters she captured last episode? She manages to capture like all the best warriors from the groups (Carol, Daryl, Michonne) so why not just kill them all? If you really wanted to send a message and send the communities into chaos, what better way than to kill all their leaders and strongest fighters? Seems odd for someone who just decapitated 10 people to show compassion to someone like Daryl who literally almost killed Beta and kidnapped her daughter. I mean she kills her own people when they look at her wrong but Daryl can do whatever he wants and he gets a “warning”.
Like in the showdown episode between Daryl and beta... when Daryl snipes the walker with a headshot from a mile away with a crossbow to draw the herd towards them.... you know he sniped the walker right next to beta... why not just snipe beta? Because he would rather have a hand to hand fight with the giant?!? Get the fuck outta here!
Alpha doesn't know Daryl, Michonne and Carol are some of the best fighters for their group. She hasn't been watching the show for 9 years. And Daryl didn't know what Beta looked like. I probably would have taken out the giant walker regardless of knowing whether or not it's a walker but for the sake of seeing more Beta moving forward I'll let that slide.
I think they probably understand that Daryl is one of the leaders at the very least. I mean, Beta knows who he is and that he beat Beta in a 1-on-1 fight. Daryl also escaped from their custody with Henry not very long ago, and was mouthing off to all of them the whole time. Combined, it certainly seems like they'd view Daryl as a threat. I mean, Alpha called him their leader or whatever. She certainly views him as a central part of their communities. She may not know his fighting abilities but she certainly knows how important of a person he is. You can't really dispute that..
But hey... at least they've used the cheat code and unlocked badass Carol again. I've been getting tired of Legolas Carol
Actually watching the season finale live tonight. First time in years I've watched a live episode of TWD.
Felt like a waste of an episode. Was about five minutes that actually amounted to progressing the story any if that much. Looks like they are already setting up the beginnings of The Commonwealth story arc though. They are really just rolling through the comic book material now.
Don’t follow the comics, but damn that felt like one of the most empty hours of a tv show I’ve ever seen
Wouldn't surprise me if the Whisperers arc is wrapped up by the midseason finale with The Commonwealth stuff being set up with that cliffhanger.
And yes, yes it was. The only worthwhile parts were Negan saving Judy (starts the process of them being able to trust Negan and integrating him into society) and the radio cliffhanger. The rest was useless unless the Kingdom falling turns into some significant thing. Though I appreciated the fact that they recognized winter happens instead of just skipping over it entirely previously.
The radio thing is from Issue 151. The most recent issue is 189. They'll be caught up with the comic in 2 or 3 seasons at this rate. Wonder what they will do then?
That’s gotta be one of the worst episodes of this show, and that’s saying something. I don’t even know where to start with the stupid decisions people made. And the pacing was just awful. Like, everyone is struggling to get thru the night and then you come back from the commercial break and the weather is fine and everyone is happy and playing in the snow.
Carol and Ezekiel are awful. Rick coming back from 10 years in wherever to find Negan banging Michonne and raising his kids would be a great ending to this show.
They'll probably wrap it up on their own kind of like game of thrones wrapping up before the books are done. I imagine they'll integrate it with whatever side movies Rick has going on and end it there somehow.
No where near the worst episode, but yeah pretty underwhelming for a finale. Usually the finales are top notch.
How did the fires start in the kingdom? Missed that part. Who was on the radio at the end? Sucky season finale.
The good ole days. Though I admit this last season was pretty decent, not like TWD in its early days though.
Well this is a surprise, the comic book is ending with this week's supersized issue #193. Will be interesting to see how this affects the TV show. It's currently in the midst of the story arc that comes after the Whisperers. A bit of a transition between the Whisperers and the current arc though I imagine the TV show skips mostly all of it like they did with the ven bigger transition between the Saviors and the Whisperers. If Kirkman wants the show to continue on for as long as he has talked, they are going to have to start coming up with all new original material after another 3 seasons, I'm guessing.
The TV show has largely followed the comic. Of course, not every detail but all the major plot points (other than character deaths) has followed the books fairly closely.
They changed complete story and character arcs. Andrea, Carl, Tyreese and Lori were ruined by the show. They had an awesome blueprint and basically decided to change everything.
Most of the character arcs that changed had their original stories just shift to a different character.
