Wife and kids rode it in February. One of our sons (17) remarked at how cringey it was He just came by the computer, saw the news article, and remarked that they should repackage the ride and move it to Galaxy's Edge: Song of the Sith
The writing was on the wall for this. When I was a kid, my dad created a whole story behind the alligator that bites the foxes tail and how it would bite the butt of kids who misbehaved while on the ride. Each time we went on he would retcon something new to Kevin the Alligator's story. Was really hoping to be able to continue that with my kid. Oh well... curious what about the ride itself he found cringey?
I didn't talk to him about it, and I didn't ride with him, so I don't know. Wife told me afterward. He now claims not to remember anything about the ride but the splash at the end, and some singing before fucking teenagers
Ok. Was curious his reasoning because if you look at the ride itself in a vacuum, there is nothing objectionable about it. The obvious issues come when you look at the inspiration for the ride.
Knew my wife was a big fan of the ride so I was little worried about how she'd take the news but she took it well. I'm not a huge Disney history guy so I know nothing about the movie but this is enough for me: The film is so controversial that Disney has locked it away for decades — even keeping it off the extensive library of its new streaming service, Disney+.
With the 3 day limit and everything else, I'm trying to decide if I want to keep my AP or get a pro-rated refund. I think the biggest question is if I cancel and then purchase one within the next year, will I still receive the 15% renewal discount or not.
looks like Charita is gonna be the imagineer in charge of the re-theme and she's excellent she was one of the heads on runaway railway not sure what all they can do bc you cant re-do the track but it'll be interesting to see
i’m curious to see if desantis is smart enough to push back the reopening my money is on fuck no six flags is open here already because we don’t give a fuck
Hell no. If it's pushed back, it'll be 100% Disney. DeSantis is cooking the books to get things opened.
I think the Princess and the Frog theme will be pretty cool. I also think they could have gone with Pocahontas as well - strong woman of color AND already spends time in a canoe type boat.
Go listen to that soundtrack again. More than enough in the soundtrack alone to make Pocahontas a bad choice considering Disney is clearly going through the parks and removing anything questionable. I would guess that Dumbo is next on the chopping block.
We are booked for 3 days at the very end of September at the Dolphin/days at MK, Epcot, and MGM... I put it at about a 3% chance we actually go. I have everything fully refundable up until September 25th. But again... 3% chance at best.
Admittedly its been a while since I listened to all of the songs but the few I can recall or have heard recently don't seem problematic (or maybe my privilege of not noticing is showing)- Just Around the Riverbend and Colors of the Wind. Maybe I will have to go back and listen to more of the songs and see if I have a different opinion. Either way, I am still cool with Princess and the Frog. Dr. Facilier is an awesome bad guy.
If they still acknowledge the movie, they aren't going to purge it from the parks. They just remade dumbo last year.
"Savages" in Pocahontas is clearly different from the songs about natives in Peter Pan. One portrays old racist tropes as funny, the other portrays the ignorance of the colonists. Context matters.
Booked a resort stay for the first weekend of March 2021. Honestly just happy to be planning a trip down there again. Current idea is: - fly down early Thursday morning, play golf at LBV, have dinner at La Cellier - Fri: MK - Sat: AK or HS - Sun: AK or HS - Mon: maybe golf in the AM before Epcot or Epcot all day before flying out that night The thought is Friday for MK but is that the right choice? Is Sat moving day for people so maybe it would be less crowded?
went to Universal Studios last week....it was awesome, park was empty..... twas' great! It seems like they got it together, we decided to stop by Disney Springs on the way home, what a shit show. So fucking crowded, we didn't stay.
Im talking about the movie. They’re literally red and singing sons about “what makes the red man red”
if masks are enforced, disney is safer than my local publix for sure but I also view that as me just walking around and not going on rides and stuff
the issue becomes touching ANYTHING is a potential hazard. Especially in a place like disney world that has a ton of young kids who like to touch and lick everything.
that's going to be tough to pull off. Hard not to touch shit like bathroom handles, hand rails on walkways, and shit like that.
I get its a bad look, but I understand why everything is deconstructed. Less hands touching the food. Probably just doing this until the 14 day period is up and everyone involved is in the clear.
yup I know While not touching things at Disney is certainly a tall task I think it’s the social distancing and staying away from crowds that will be the most difficult part both for the visitors and for Disney to enforce
