The best part about the wire is how every season helps to build a complete picture. Perfectly produced and directed. It is the closest thing to an excellent novel you will ever see on television. One of the best examples is how Kennard is shown running around pretending he is omar in the one the earlier seasons. I mean if you look at season 1 you just sorta assume that the main players are going to be the focus of the show, only by the end of the series it is the true definition of an ensemble. The lines between protagonist and antagonist are so blurred that you can't define the show by normal conventions. /end Wire hardon
I might be the only person to think that The Wire was great from the first episode; the only thing I don't like about later episodes is Spoiler McNulty and Lester's serial killer and the paper stuff , which is still good the first time watching it, but sort of boring on a 3rd or 4th viewing (tho any seen with Spoiler Bunk telling Jimmy/Lester they're idiots is classic the best show ever with the a great cast of tons of interesting characters.
actually have question I never had answered: Spoiler is the kid whose with Bubs the one he "kills" during Season 4 the same one he sorta "takes under his wing" in Hamsterdam at the end of Season 3 (the one you see him with when he talks to Bunny)? they look different, which is why I'm asking
cool thing then, Still I don't like Marlo for the same reason I wouldn't like him in real life. Dude's evil and bloodthirsty. Makes for cool TV but even in the show nobody 'liked' Marlo, even the people that worked for him didn't like him. Stringer was a snake but at least he had reasons for doing dirt and had bigger goals than the street
Its already been answered but the creators of the show made clear that this isn't a 'cops and robbers' type of show and they created it with a real purpose, not just for entertainment. The port season really showed the dying working class of the city. These were guys that years back owned homes, made a decent living and were the foundation of the city and now they were scraping by scratching for hours to feed their families. The creators wanted to show the decline of the American city from the drug trade/underclass, the working class, the failing school system, the failing police force, the failing political aspect, and the failing media. In addition Season 2 pushed the storyline forward by introducing the Greeks and showing how the drugs came into the city in the first place. It definitely moved slowly but its important to the overall story
The funny thing is that in real life this kid is like a future Rhodes Scholar. Dude's like a cross between Carlton and the kid from Smart Guy
