I’m so glad I didn’t read the books or care how much fan service it does for the games or books. This show stands on its own big time and season two was an absolute load of fun.
For the record, I still enjoy the show for the most part. And I try not to complain about miniscule stuff like cutting characters or travel time between cities being quicker than the book. Lots of people complained about Nevillen/ Bruxa story line changed but I still think it was good. It's just that writers change some intentions and motivations go completely against what characters basically stand for, and for basically no reason. Like Jamie at the end of GoT. All his character growth over the course of the series were completely undone over the course of an episode or two. I understand it's an adaption/interpretation and can still enjoy it for what it is. It's just when you change a character a lot you basically have a slightly to completely different character that you're used to. And this series is different bc you have book readers, game players and show watchers all existing in the same place. I think the show is wonderfully cast for the most part.
Yeah but I was screaming into the void at the Selmy reveal to Dany (thought it needed to play out more) and basically hated the show after he got jumped by a mob of homeless people and died. People were really mad at me so I guess I sympathize with these book readers a bit. That being said, this is currently my favorite show and I’m a giant cunt
And it could’ve been easily done on the show. The Selmy reveal was up there with the greatest moments of the books and they really just let it fly by
Spoiler i dont understand this small complaint. "Also Vesemir wanting to bring back Witchers so much he was gonna give a kid the potion was odd." I was under the assumption that all Witchers were turned at a young age. Is that wrong?
From the books Spoiler Vesemir along with most Witchers and most people are against the use of Witcher mutagens and trials bc it's cruel, done on children, extremely painful and like 2 in 10 survive it. At some point when Geralt was young "public sentiment" changed towards Witchers and they were seem as monsters themselves. It's kinda why Witchers are hated/tolerated whereever they go by most. Kaer Morhen was stormed and a lot of Witchers were killed and the secret to create Witchers was lost. So Vesemir being OK with giving the potion to Ciri is way out of left field. Also Vesemir would not have let whores come to KM to have a drunken orgy. The location of KM is a secret to most everyone. Netflix Vesemir is very different from Book and Game Vesemir.
Welcome to the biggest fault of shitty adaptations (not saying The Witcher is one). I swear, I don’t know if it’s arrogance or what, but so many show runners think it’s their job to enhance the source material instead of adapting it to a visual medium.
I have no need for Freya Allan to be a sex object but they could try to make her look at least 15. Or not, maybe it doesn’t matter but bothers me a bit she looks 12
She actually looks older than she’s supposed to. Ciri has her first period at Kaer Morhen during her training with the witchers.
Book spoiler Spoiler isnt Cahir the soldier traveling with Gerhalt and his band of misfits? I haven’t finished the entire book series, but the white flame was a major spoiler from a later book, my wife tells me. Wonder if that’s what makes TV Cahir change sides?
second season. watched it over the last two days. have seen s1 2-3 times and really liked it. struggled with s2 a bit more but maybe it'll make more sense the more i watch it/read about it. fwiw, i've never read the books or played the games. Spoiler i got pretty lost at the hidden elven temple and the elven witch + the nilf witch + yen making a pack with the deathless mother demon early in the show. that drove so much of those characters' actions and it wasn't until basically the end of ep7 where i sort of understood what was happening... i think.
To be fair the source material kinda glossed over how the women like yen got their powers. The show is doing a decent job of explaining/showing how ciri can jump through time and space though.
i don't think i ever understood the eels from S1 so is that the witches that don't have enough magical power to survive the hottening or whatever?
It’s not that they don’t have it, it’s that they can’t control it; they’re turned into conduits of power for the school. It’s an invention of the show either way; in the context of the books, Aretuza would be burned to the ground if they did something like that.
I kinda wish they'd release the episodes weekly. We finished in 2 days, and now I have nothing I'm interested in watching, lol.
Opposite. We started Wheel of Time on Prime but it’s released weekly and it’s just not as good as binge watching a fantasy series. It’s much easier to keep up with everything going on in the fantasy world if you can binge it. So waiting till all those episodes are out (they may be now) and going to go back and binge it.
That’s honestly how we are watching it. We usually get an episode in after putting the kid to bed before we go to sleep. Honestly thinking about doing a rewatch on my own while working today, but that would be the equivalent of sleeping with another woman to my wife.
Yeah, they haven’t really explained much, but essentially Spoiler She’s the descendant of an elven-human union that included an incredibly powerful sorcerer (Cregennan of Lod) and an Elven Sage (Lara Dorren) that possessed a unique magical talent (the Elder Blood). In addition, through her family lineage she can claim the thrones of three kingdoms (Nilfgaard, Cintra, and the Skellige Isles). So essentially, she’s the ultimate McGuffin/power piece for any gambit politically or magically on the Continent.
ah i see. yeah if you've only watched the shows then they haven't done a good job of clearly explaining that.
Just finished up now. Fantastic. You know a show is good when you’re fucking pissed that it’s over. Also team binge forever, fuck the weekly wait.
The actor leaving, COVID and Amazon limiting the show to only 8 episodes I think, played a lot into this.
Haven't really seen much of the behind the scenes stuff but the show just seems to be missing something. Also just not a big fan of the casting. None of the younger cast is very good at all I don't think.
