remove the "CC stan/CC anti" part of this and the discussion boils down to: 1) Team USA lacked a true 1. AT functioned as that better than any of our guards but she shouldn't be having to do that. 2) by the time the break came, CC's vision and passing are well worthy of Team USA-level play. she is absolutely skilled enough to be on that team and would likely have been able to contribute as a facilitator coming off the bench. in hindsight, you add CC to that team because she likely is already the best passer in the league or in the discussion for it. the game has slowed down, she sees it better, she's jelled with her team, who she is now and who she was in mid-May are two different players. she demands attention on the court because god forbid she also goes on a heater (Team USA was absolutely dreadful from 3 the entire and I mean entire tournament) so she'll draw that, find the open woman and make the assist. she's a fucking annoying 1 to play against because if her shot isn't falling, she'll just pick you apart with her passing because as above, you still have to respect her shot (and where on the floor she can shoot from). the problem is such and here's why the above doesn't matter: 1) the selection committee wants a more cohesive group than what the men do because the men get more exhibition games and the women don't because they're doing this in the middle of the season so you have to do more than just exist to be on the radar of the selection committee. they'll almost certainly invite CC to the WC in '26 and that's how she'll gain entry to LA. 2) when they were selecting the team, Indiana was 3-9 and Clark was making about as many headlines for her turnovers as her passing. even Staley herself basically said "well, if we knew then what we knew now, it'd be harder to keep her off" but as always, hindsight is 20/20. nobody thought the guard play was gonna be this shit, nobody expected CC to be quite where she is at this point, not quite this fast.
CC really gets people dug in. the whole convo around her is exhausting, I thought she should have been on the team for multiple reasons but no point to keep the debate going w the Olympics over.
was out and about so couldn't watch but I was checking updates on my phone. game confused the hell out of me. up 25 in the first half and then actually lost that entire lead and then some before staging the comeback. Fever really struggle to close. looks like the break did CC a lot of good, though. watching highlights and it's probably the best she's looked shooting the ball in some time.
There was a point in the game where Boston and Clark were not on the court for extended minutes and it showed big time. They are not a deep team hence the reason they are around .500. It is really showing that this team is coming together, the game has slowed down for Clark and with Mitchell playing this way it helps keep the pressure off her. You can just see them starting to gel more and more and play as a team. They probably make the playoffs but won’t make much noise but give them another year and if they can find an another solid piece in the draft they should be around that 4-5 mark next year.
Not defending her, no need to defend her. I was simply explaining why the game was a little weird and how the team is playing. So it’s laughable to to be invested in watching a women basketball team and or player?
liberty look so good since returning from the olympic break they'll be outrageous if they add gabby williams
Can’t wait for this to spark even more debate and fans of both her and Clark get triggered. As a whole people can’t just agree they are both very good players and you can like both.
She had to have 20 rebounds tonight to stay 1 tenth of a rebound ahead of Aja. If she only averages 5.6 the rest of the way she isn't going to have the record.
former NBA players that know the game know it shouldn’t be a close race for rookie of the year , eye test over box scores in blowout losses
I had to look it up but the women won the gold. I don’t know much about women’s basketball or the Olympics but isn’t that kinda good?
Yes, however, they only “won” by 1 in the gold medal game. Mainly because of Gabby Williams outstanding performance for France.
My bad, like I said not knowing much about the Olympics or women’s basketball, I was unaware you had to win by a certain amount for it to actually count as a win.
Ionescu and CC will be a mighty nice backcourt for Team USA but just like in the mens game, we are gonna see a little tougher competition and better talent coming through internationally like with France
