"I just visited a grocery store on my lunch break and was stopped by three different men who wanted to compliment me on how I looked. I am not trying to appear ungrateful or offended by an innocent compliment, but it really bothers me that we continue to reinforce a notion that a woman's value is tied to her appearance. If it was commonplace in our society to compliment men AND women routinely on appearances alone, maybe I would feel differently. None of these men were particularly rude or creepy but all were at least 15 years my senior. I just hope men understand how odd it is to have complete strangers evaluate your looks on a regular basis."
