The last episode was as good as any single episode from any TV show that I can remember. Really well done. Only negative from it was that William is now gone and it's still early in the show. He was a great character and the actor played him perfectly.
Agreed. Will be interesting to see what the dynamic of the show is like going forward without William. Kinda surprised they didn't save his death for the season finale since the William/Randle story was the biggest focus of the season.
It's a great show but where does it go after season 1 if William and Jack are both gone? It started with 6 (Jack, Mandy Moore, William, and the 3 kids) stories and each of them was solid. If 2 of the 6 are gone, not sure the other 4 will be able to maintain the show, especially when the lead story, Jack, is gone.
If I were the showrunner, season 2 would be the same concept, but show flash forwards into the future.
They could include Jack's death this season and it wouldnt necessarily eliminate the actor from the show right? If they continue to show backstory from the triplets younger years?
Yeah I think this will definitely happen. He will still be on the show when they flashback to a time before he died.
It is really shocking that this show is on network tv. It shows good writing and acting can still be done in network tv. Really think this is the best network tv show on right now and might rival some of the good cable shows.
Just watching now. When mom is apologizing to black triplet during the William Walk, I welled up a little. Spoiler I only watch the show occasionally and am bad at remembering names anyway
Lastly, watching them build up to Jack's death is like watching the crew from Hot Tub Time Machine experience the bellhop nearly get his arm cut off repeatedly.
honestly had no idea this was the finale coming up on tuesday. i was not ready when he started driving at the end of that episode.
I don't think they kill Jack this Tuesday. I think we see it coming and all of the uncertainty within the family that leads up to it, but it's the cliff-hanger. We'll see tho...wouldn't surprise me if you guys are right.
What was perfect about it? The season finale shouldn't be 45 mins of filler bullshit that does nothing to advance the story. That should've been a mid season episode.
I'm gonna need to sit in that one for a bit. But... What the fuck was that shit? Back story was nice. But they teased an event the whole season, spoke directly of it just last week, and then nothing. This isn't LOST...
I mention LOST bc they were famous for that, teasing something and then making you wait. But on that show, 60% of the fun was theorising with friends about what was going on, and then all finding out together in the fall. This show is not built that way. I don't care *how* he dies. I know he dies. I'm not going to spend the summer theorizing what happens to him. I care about the family and how they react and what it does to the kids. I've been preparing mentally all season, so what the fuck is a year going to do for that experience?
Guessing that episode was edited heavily after the success the show had and was given a really uncommon 3 season extension to milk things out a bit longer.
I did at first, but removed that bc 1) I realized we didn't, we just assumed (or most of us did) and 2) it doesn't matter how he dies imo and that took away from my main point.
Interesting thing about Jack's death not happening while driving drunk to Rebecca's show is that we still don't know what Kate did to cause it. Obviously we all thought her urging him to attend the show was what she was referencing, but that mystery is still out there.
