Love playing Santorini and Azul. Have also played the new azul, stained glass of sintra - and it's a lot of fun, similar game but enough changes to keep it fresh. Started my Gloomhaven: Jaws of the Lion campaign with a friend a couple weeks ago, and I like it. The map booklet helps setup so much.
Haven't bumped this thread in a while - what is everyone playing lately? Potion Explosion has been one of my go-to's lately. Picked up my Gloomhaven Campaign with 2 friends and we're a couple in. I really like that game. Once the digital version is finished this year it would be nice to get a 4 man crew from TMB to run a campaign. I backed the huge Everdell and Stellaris campaigns on Kickstarter, I like base Everdell and this seemed like a good deal. I'm a little worried about Stellaris, but it seems like it could be amazing. Also broke out Terraforming Mars this weekend, and played 3 rounds - it's so much better with the Prelude expansion.
Been doing some gloomhaven (the beginners edition. Think it’s called lions den?) and terraforming Mars. Really fun on both games. I think the digital Gloomhaven exists but it’s like an rpg lite game on pc?
Jaws of the Lion - I have that one also, and another friend and I are running 2 characters each, 8 scenarios in. The map being in the book is a huge plus. Gloomhaven digital is out - and has its own version of the campaign mode right now. It's pretty good, but they are releasing the full campaign of the board game later this year sometime. I've got about 35 hours or so in the digital version playing "Guildmaster" (their campaign before the campaign is finished) and it plays really well - holds true to the board game and goes a lot quicker since the computer is doing all the fidgety parts.
been playing some digital Gloomhaven on steam - very fun - doesnt have the full campaign yet though (still in early-access) - but they've added a shitton of stuff to it. the best part about it is not having to deal with "oops I fucked up that rule/instance" that happens so often with that game
Bought azule and my wife and I enjoy it. It’s easy yet can be strategic. Nice dinner and quick game night game
Who could ever get sick of getting destroyed by sweaty Roze skins, or hot dropping the train 8 times in a row.... signmeup.gif
What's the digital Gloomhaven cost? I have Jaws of the Lion but my regular gaming group didn't really get into it. Wasteland Express is a good game if you can get it in the $30-40 range. Seems overwhelming at first but has pretty basic mechanics once you know what you are doing and plays like a video game.
$25 on Steam, here's the updated roadmap - not sure how long until "Next" and the full release is - but I'm hoping it's just later this year.
a roommate bought twilight imperium 4e. after a few day of research we're going to start tonight. i still know nothing about the game. rtr
definitely watch some Youtube tutorials - like everyone playing needs to or it'll take hours to just get it set up
I've played the 3rd edition once, and it was a great game - and took 7 hours. I don't remember there being anything overly complicated with the rules but there is just A LOT going on. Be prepared to play most of the night. Speaking of long, complicated games - I got my copy of Oath (by Leder games) in the other day and am going to try to start playing it with a group tomorrow. I've read some stories of the first play taking 5+ hours, so uh not looking forward to that - and the rules seem pretty dense. Brass: Birmingham was just released on Steam yesterday if anyone likes that game. I played it for the first time in person this weekend and it was alright - don't see why it's the # 3 game on BGG - good but not groundbreaking or anything... at least so far in my experience
Gloomhaven's full digital campaign release has been announced for 10/20, I'm looking forward to it just because that is a game that is so hard to get to the table with my group. We try to play every other week but end up missing one every few. At this pace, we'll be done with the campaign in a couple of years.
The only way we ever made progress was scheduling it out - every 2 weeks on Tuesday night 2 guys in my neighborhood would play. At first, it was we'd text around hey y'all want to play, and we had like 5 scenarios in a year. Made a commitment to schedule it out and it seemed to help but is still hard to get to the table.
Gloomhaven full digital release is today, I joined the open Beta over the weekend and completed 8 scenarios or so the last few days playing a full 4 characters by myself. They did a great job on the game, it holds almost perfectly to the board game. I think there are a few tweaks, but nothing I've noticed yet. JPWahoo I say we give them a few weeks to make sure no game breaking bugs then we can get a campaign going, my buddy from WZ (CubanB) wants to join us as well - I'm sure we can find 1 more and run it through the WZ discord voice channel. Other general board game talk - I haven't had a chance to play much lately, but when I do we've still be playing mostly great western trail, tiny towns, and terraforming mars. Haven't really introduced any new games lately, although I did order the new Descent game, haven't played it yet. Backed the Canvas reprint + expansion, Everdell + all expansions, Root: Marauders, Frosthaven, and Stellaris Infinite Legacy all on KS the past year, so 2022 should be a fun year.
One of my 2 nephews REALLY wants the Risk boardgame, so I'm getting him that, and then WAS going to get Smallworld for the other (since it's a better version of Risk), but the cheapest I've found on Amazon, that is the original version of the game, is like $73. Anyone ever used Boardlandia to buy games? This is much better than $73, but also, I've never used Boardlandia. https://boardlandia.com/products/small-world
See the game as Risk on steroids, more tactical, longer games, more important to have a bunch of committed players playing. But if you have a few guys to play and truly committed its awesome
Have never used them, happen to have any local game shops can call around? It's a game they should mostly all have and I'd assume it's closer to the $40 range. Could also try to find a used copy, I sold mine not long ago or I'd have shipped it to you. Digital version of small world is fun also just fyi Also can look here https://boardgamegeek.com/geekmarket/browse?objecttype=thing&objectid=40692&pageid=1 If you do want to spend a little more this seems like a great deal for expansions + organizer https://boardgamegeek.com/geekmarket/product/2695362
i picked up a copy of jaws of the lion last night. havent played it yet but there sure does seem to be a lot going on.
I had played Gloomhaven prior to Jaws, but it does a good job of more slowly teaching you the game mechanics. It's a lot, you're going to forget stuff, you're going to get stuff wrong, it's fine.
Picked up Endangered and Parks for the holidays and so far have done two play throughs of Endangered. Fun game.
Very down for some gloomhaven online if anyone has a spot. Have a little experience playing jaws of the lion irl and tons of experience playing video games/yelling at myself how much I suck while playing said video games
Has anyone played Root? Board game. I keep getting targeted articles about it Or really just looking for a new board game purchase. Any style could work but ideally something that can be played with 2 people and/or possibly co-op. Only things we’ve done are gloomhaven, pandemic, and terraforming mars
Great game, there is a digital version on Steam (with expansion coming soon). Parks is a fun game, it's on BoardGameArena, not sure if any of you are on there but I am and would be up for playing plenty of turn based games. My username there is SaintDoug - and I have a premium membership so I can start tables for any games, if you're interested add me on there. Root is fun, but it's hard to get to the table a lot. Each faction plays so completely different that you need a few games of playing as each to really understand what's going so if you have a good group - you're looking at 6+ games before everyone really knows what everyone else is really doing to get some good games. That's not counting the expansion factions. I love it, but it's hard to get to the table. 2 players Root is alright, it's almost always birds vs cats unless you use automa cats as the 3rd player. It's also available digital on steam, with one of the expansions. A good way to get extra plays in and learn the factions. Would be happy to offer some recs, anything specific y'all like or more importantly don't like? ... stuff that plays only 2 players, or can be played 2+?
Hmm not really sure what we like or don’t like yet. Gloomhaven has definitely been fun. But it’s sooo in depth can take a lot to get into it. 2+ would be ideal since we sometimes run 2 but also get others for larger games.
If you've played Pandemic, and Gloomhaven - then the obvious choice is Pandemic Legacy Season 1 - one of my best gaming experiences playing 2 player with my wife. A lot of fun playing through the campaign. Wingspan is fun, simple game, 2P and more works well. Dune: Imperium - a newer game, deck builder / worker placement game themed around dune. Great Western Trail is another one of my favorite games, plays well at 2 players but is more fun with 3/4. The 2nd edition just came out for upgraded cosmetics mostly. Scythe is a great area control game, again can play at 2P but better at more. 7 Wonders Duel, quick fun 2p game. Orleans, Everdell, Quacks of Quedlinburg, Azul - all other funs games. All of these are pretty simply to learn imo, Great Western Trail will seem like you're learning a new language when you unbox the it and go through the rule book but it really is a pretty simple game.
We had Southern Board Game Festival this weekend in my city, got to game pretty much all day yesterday and most of the day today it was a lot of fun. I was able to play/teach Dune Imperium & Great Western Trail 2nd Edition - was able to play a bunch of other great games, really enjoyed Canvas, Dinosaur Island Rawr & Write, Undaunted, and play tested a game that should be coming to Kickstarter in August called Hurricane. Few others but it was a good weekend.
