The first major system moving through this weekend. Just went through all of my gear and targeting next weekend for the first trip up. Probably head to Stevens or Crystal, but might get enough through the week to make Alpental a go. After getting skunked the last couple of years, I'm itching to see just how bad I've gotten. Post your yard sales here, ladies.
Didn't go at all last year, sucks. Planning to visit my friend who lives 10 minutes from Stowe in February, will have to get my form back in the majestic Poconos.
Yeah it's gonna take 3 trips or so before I've got my boots under me. Pretty sure I won't be hiking Tunnel Creek next weekend...
I need to make it out west one of these days to ski, missed my chance when the same friend lived in Jackson Hole for 2 years. To be fair he lived in a van being an honest to god ski bum. He has upgraded to a yurt in the wilderness of Vermont.
In WA State, Crystal and Alpental are my favorite areas. Stevens and Baker are great too. Obviously, Whistler, BC is only 4hrs away and Sun Peaks is 5.5 for a weekender. In Oregon, Meadows and Timberline are the best around Portland. Bachelor is awesome, but another 3.5hrs south. I'm going to try and get a full weekend trip to Whistler or Sun Valley, ID in this year with 6 or so local trips up, plus I take my parents and brother up every year to Meadows on Christmas Day.
Got my pass, just need to start actually making it out to the mountains. Can't decide if I want to board or ski.
There. Your decision has been made. Crystal got 17" the last 24. Crystal Mountain Retweeted CrystalMt.Ski Patrol @CrystalMtPatrol 43m43 minutes ago Chair 6 opening in 5 minutes. First time open this season. Come and get it! @CrystalMt
What gear are ya'll on this year? I've got Axiel3s mounted on new 186 Volkl TWOs as my everyday AM sticks and 12.0 Free Markers mounted on 2008 184 Volkl Mantras as rock skis.
What are you in? I finally had to ditch my old Rossignol Racing boots. Too stiff for this old man. I now have a pair of Rossignol Intense i12s that are about 3 years old and I love them as a mid-flex boot.
Solomon boots. I can't get them tight enough without cutting off circulation in areas. I'm fine going downhill but get into upper bowls and they arent as responsive as I'd like
need to pick skiing back up now that i'm somewhere it's not a nightmare to go do it used to go all the time growing up in NY
Leave the top buckles a little loose and use the power strap. If they're still uncomfortable and not responsive enough, then look at molds
I'm sorry. But Bachelor is only 3 hrs away. Stay in SR and do a weekender after you get a few turns in at WP.
Love Crystal... Sad I'm in Atlanta and not Seattle seeing this thread. As it stands, I plan on going to Jackson Hole at the end of January and then Beaver Creek the following week.
As a Midwesterner I only rent skis because I only go out a couple times a year. Won't bother going in the Midwest until the daughter gets old enough to learn. This year Vail and Jackson are possible trips. I'd say the odds are equal whether one, both or neither happens.

used to go skiing every year at smuggler's notch/stowe as a kid, Haven't had a chance to go in years. Miss the shit out of it :(
El Nino pretty much ruining any skiing here in Ohio, PA, WV and NY. Not that the skiing here is any good anyway. Hopefully spending a week in Vail at my uncle's condo in January after I get all my PTO back.
Yeah not even thinking of going anywhere in awhile here in NY. Trip booked to Killington in Feb. May go to the poconos and some other local NY spots if it gets below 50 degrees any time soon
This winter fucking sucks. It feels like anything but the week of Christmas because of the weather we are having.
First season for me here in Colorado. Been up once and it also happened to be my first time skiing. Fucking loved it. Can't wait to get back out there when I come back from FL for the holidays.
Yeah the Cascades and Rockies are getting smoked. El Niño working for us this year. Taking my family to Mt Hood Meadows for Christmas Day.
First time ever in Telluride last season. Making my first ever trip to Canada (Whistler) in February. Can't wait.
Still haven't made it out due to a variety of ailments.. Going to make a point of it after Christmas.
Can't wait to get my new boots and go ripping on some fresh terrain. Snow was a little heavy and wet, though. Anyone in Nor Cal / Tahoe? Spoiler
Anybody have boot recs for a wide foot and high arch? Been up twice this year and really cannot stand my boots any longer. Im currently leaning towards a custom DaleBoot
I was thinking about those but my shell is non-formable kind of plastic (bought these boots in like 06') so it's just time to upgrade.
Look into some FullTilt. The Descendent line of boots they make is for a little wider foot. They are more of a park style boot and fit more like a sneaker than a ski boot. At this point, I'd rather trade a little performance for comfort. I'm getting old.
Heading on up to Cataloochee in a few weeks a far cry from the good skiing but it'll have to do this year
Headed to Whistler tomorrow...75" of base so far, which seems like ten feet after the last couple years on the West Coast
Funny you bring up Full Tilt. Same buddy started with FT boots and didn't like them, so he bought a pair of Lange Boots with Intuition Liners...
For those of you guys that like Whistler. Big White is the best semi well-kept secret in Canadian ski areas. Smaller than Whistler or Sun Peaks. Half the price, though. Great terrain. Better snow than Whistler as well.
Come to Tahoe for a week, faggot. Thrilled for the resorts- it's nothing earth shattering so far, but has to be a wild improvement compared to the last several years!
Yeah no kidding. The last 2-3 years have been brutal. Really happy for the resorts. I've been to both Heavenly and Squaw multiple times, although not in a long time. Tahoe is awesome. Been to Sugar once. Great medium sized area.
