Heading to Mt Bachelor. Anyone have experience skiing there in late March? Afraid of Spring breakers but it is what it is.
Any good places to go based on snowfall this year for mid April? Schedule didnt lineup for me this year to get out west and cant until April 15th wknd. I snowboard as well so have to be able to do that wherever.
Dumping in Jackson making lots of jumps low risk today. Epic day so far. ETA: think I got the gif to work
Just booked a trip for April 13-17th to Colorado. Going to stay in Breck, but will have transportation to go elsewhere. Hoping that there is some snow left
Keystone and Beaver end April 17th. Breck is like May currently. Copper April 24th. A-Basin…good until football season.
At Deer Valley locals complained/commented about the amount of New Yorkers/Chicago/LA people taking over the area. I am guessing that everywhere you go in the mountains you probably hear the same story.
This issue here locally in park city is that they all bought a house here, and they’re aren’t leaving. To give you an example. I live in PC and currently rent. We are actively trying to buy a house but what used to be a 500k townhouse, is now a 1 million dollar plus townhouse. An 800k house is 1.65 million. And it’s happening because people from the coast bought sight unseen to live and work remotely from here during covid. It sucks, but at least all those people were actively living here. The issue is about to hit the fan in that all those people will likely start making their way back to the cities, and now all those homes will sit vacant for most the year. It just sucks because there are a lot of people my age (32) who are pretty much in the same boat I am. Make good money, live here full times, completely priced out of the market by anonymous buyers from thousands of miles away just throwing around cash. There’s not much that can be done about it.
And if they went out and built the inventory needed to support the current population, when the economy/stock market takes a dump and they all bail then you are stuck with ghost town neighborhoods.
Part of the reason why PC, Aspen, Vail, and others have very specific development codes and easements. It is a double edged sword because it does hold back developments that are desperately needed, and would likely not go to shit if the market changed
Did a beaver-vail weekend. Might be my last trip up this year, depending on some mid-April snow. Beaver was great on Saturday. Cutwaters were flowing and the crowd was minimal.
I've partied in that yurt at the top of Vail a few years back. I met up with a friend that lived out there and he had a group of friends that were just up there getting sloppy all day and eating fondue. I don't think they skied or snowboarded all day.
One of the guys in that photo works for vail corporate and gets access to a bunch of pro deals. That is his board. I’m getting a new one through him for next season
Never too crowded. Good lodges. Swanky village. Big fan. Yes it closes early and might get the least amount of snow, but it is my #1 choice on a normal or powder day. I need to give Keystone more opportunities, but I am honestly a bit over going to Breck on a regular basis. Especially on any weekend
Back in my day, it was BC trees for powder, A Basin for bowls/beers on the beach (and hucking the cornice), and the Vail back bowls if you were staying in Eagle/Summit overnight and could beat the crowds. Breck was for when your friends came from the east coast and wanted a day on the mountain.
That's about right. I haven't been to A Basin, Copper or Winter Park as I don't have an IKON pass. We hit the vail back bowls on Sunday. it was fine, but the snow was getting a little bare. It is a magical place when there is some powder or deep snow. Still want to try Steamboat Springs, but unsure when I will spring for that trip. Definitely considering getting the full Epic pass and not the Local pass so I can go to Telluride a few times next year.
Late 90s it was still $300 for all you can ski BC, Vail, Breck, Keystone, and A Basin. Every CU student starts off at Breck/Keystone. Steamboat is my favorite Colorado mountain with snow. That champagne powder is unbeatable. My last trip there (2010) was back to back 10” days with powder up to my knees.
ha, that is awesome. the direct SW flight to Steamboat is tempting to have friends meet us there. Shame it is an IKON resort.
The locals I hung with this year all raved about Beaver. One of the guys had 6 weeks between starting a new job and did the lift and his wife did lessons two days a week so they could get a season pass. I can’t remember if it was just for there but he basically said he only goes there and loves it. I was one day late for Beaver (and a powder day) and haven’t been. Really want to go. I did Keystone twice because that’s where the place is, and I like it. Wasn’t crazy crowded on the weekend and a great layout for blues to see the entire resort. Pretty cookie cutter for the village.
Keystone is great for blues and worth hitting up as the closest epic resort to Denver. But definitely make a point to hit up BC
should have made this move earlier in the year, but had my pal pick this up for me today after a new shipment came in https://www.outdoortechnology.com/products/chips
Skied Mt Bachelor for a couple days last weekend. I was afraid of spring breakers and lift lines. If that's something you want to avoid on a mountain that has more than enough terrain for a multiple day trip, would definitely consider this mountain over many others. Enjoyed the spring conditions quite a bit and didn't have to chase the sun spots as much as I anticipated. 9/10 for spring skiing imvho ama gbr
Hit up Keystone last week. Just drank until it warmed up and the snow turned to slush. Got my most elevation the entire season. Was a great day
Flying there now. You picked the perfect time to go as the weather improves a lot the day you arrive and I leave. It will hit 50’s today and then the cold arrives. I wonder what it takes wind wise for them to shut down some lifts.
skiing Bridger Bowl this weekend. would recommend. typical end of the season conditions yet still some areas of powder.
Skied Vail today. Typical spring conditions. Sweet spot 10:30-12:00 then just chunky and a bit bare. Not sure what the storm might do to help tonight. Looks like a dusting of 2-4. Soften for the am at least. Winds have to be gusting above 40-50 depending on lift. Plus sking in the visibility is garbage.
Was enjoying staring out the window on my last flight. Any idea what ski resort I was looking at in BC?
