Yup, looking forward to all of the mountains opening up. Mostly though I don't really like driving up when I have to put on chains.
Atmospheric River Event over Tahoe. Sooooo good at Alpine today and hoping Upper Mountain Squaw will open for the first time this week tomorrow. Upper mountain should be legit. UrsaGrande
trying to do a day ski for my birthday the 14th trying to decide between sundance or Brighton with my trip to breckenridge coming up I'm not going to pay for those park city or snowbird lift tickets
I had a run off Emigrant on Friday that felt good, took an hour to get from Truckee to Squaw and the parking lot wasn't moving at all at the end of the day so hung out and had a burger at Plumpjack. Enjoyed watching people wait for Granite Chief and the continually changing open times while I did some laps on Shirley. New boots felt great now time to do some demo skis. My ski partner ended up with a knee injury and needed the patrol sled to get off the mountain so that sucked, on the bright side we just ended up heading back down the hill that night and missed dealing with the storm.
Sucks about your buddy. How's his knee doing? Yeah, that drive up 89 sucks. Last week I was caught and took 2 hrs to get home. What kind of boots did you get? And you didn't miss much. Snowed for about an hour this AM then turned to rain.
Hard to say, spent some time in the medical hut and the initial review sounded like it might not need surgery but will need a follow up after the swelling goes down. Fingers crossed that everything will be good in 6 weeks or so. Atomic Hawx Prime 100 boots. I'm finally stepping up from some used rental gear I bought a few years ago. Looking forward to not being on skis that are way too short for me.
I purchased some Nordica Enforcer 93s. I don't have much experience in different skis, but these things are fabulous. Didn't have a chance to open them up on any groomers, but for an all mountain ski they handled shitty powder conditions extremely well.
I'm mostly a groomer skier, but Sierra snow tends to get pretty chopped up. I plan on looking at 85-90mm waist skis at first thinking that I'll be able to carve well enough as well as power through the crud. A nice bonus will be doing some light powder when I feel up for some adventure.
Damn it's good to be back in Wyoming 39 inches overnight at Snowy Range last Wednesday and I was gone, fuck
Some of the best runs of my life today. Left the house super early and got to Alpine right before they closed the main road in due to avalanche control. Was 2nd chair to over a foot of new snow. And since the main road in was shut down, there were only 50 or so people in the resort for an hour. So many untouched POW runs. Skied for at least an hour before I had to wait in a line.
I got up to Alpine on Tuesday, no powder (not a problem for me) but great weather and no lines. Got in a full day by 1:30. For someone that just likes to work on turns going down groomers I think Alpine might be a bit better than Squaw.
Better than breck? When I went I was knee deep in snow weaving through trees. It was incredible, considering I'd only ever been east coast.
I have not been to Breckenridge. My best friend up here is from Jackson, skied in college and says Steamboat has the best in the nation so I will defer to her
went backcountry skiing today and wore the hell out of my dog and myself. So glad I bought a truck so I can access the areas I had been dying to last winter
I've had better snow days at Steamboat than Breck, but yes much better trees. Winter Park has some great trees as well.
Heading to Utah for a week. Staying in Orem. Get 3 days of slopes. Best 3 to hit on a board. Want variety. Go.
Went to Red Mountain up in BC. I thought I'd skied slopes before. About every rating up there is notch tougher than the PNW or rockies area. Double black diamonds were actually a cliff. Didn't want to die
