And my comments were intended as in general about the site, not a dig at anyone personally. I think its weird to slight the site for not giving more options for people to get into financial trouble. Thats like being upset there's not a payday cash advance on every corner. Saying someone shouldn't use payday cash advance to buy luxury items isn't being mad that people have options to buy things. Its just being rationale.
I'll admit I didn't know Afterpay was a company. I'd never heard of it until I just Googled it. It looks like the same thing as Affirmed, which they offer. Doesn't change my opinion, I personally wouldn't buy sneakers if I had to finance them, but wanted to clear that up.
Maybe we should just make it a general rule(in life, not just this thread) to avoid offering up unsolicited financial advice.
So what are the infared numbers looking like? I figured atleast one of the two local Hibbetts near me would be getting them but they arent and looks like only 5 in the state are. Doesnt necessarily mean the numbers are low but I thought they would be a regular GR like the volts and purples, etc.
Everything I've seen says they made a ton. Of course demand will be high too so who knows. The better comparison to these is the Laser Blue and Concords. All 3 are og colorways and are labeled Air Max III on the box. All 3 gave forefoot air where the regular recraft don't. Basically they are a higher quality build, like the anniversaries were for am1 in 2017.
Speaking of thr Laser Blue and Concord, oneness has both for $98. I'll grab a couple more at that price. https://www.onenessboutique.com/products/nike-air-max-iii-laser-blue?variant=32835445620820 https://www.onenessboutique.com/pro...d-pink-blast-vast-grey?variant=32836413522004 https://www.onenessboutique.com/products/nike-womens-air-max-iii?variant=32835469738068
I’m not going to fuck up the thread but I have personal reasons to say that. I’ll let it go. Also afterpay is in no way like affirm or a payday loan. All it does is break up the payments in to four separate installments. That’s it. No interest no anything else. So if you buy a pair of shoes that are 100 you pay four $25 payments over two months. Not sure why that’s a big deal or why it’s bad financially. It’s not like I am taking out a loan to pay for sneakers.
For me personally, I'm not buying a luxury item like shoes if I need to break up the payments bc I don't have the expendable money to buy them outright. I'd feel irresponsible. That's me. You do you.
That $25 is expandable income though it’s no different than saving the 25 for 4 months than buying them cash that way. It literally is no different. If I was getting hit with some huge interest rate I’d understand. I budget X for certain crap that’s “luxury” if that’s budget is 25 a month that’s what I’ll spend.
Again, this is me personally. If they are $100, I'd wait 4 months and then buy a pair. I don't like having future expenses when I don't know what the future holds. What happens if I have car issues next month and no longer have the money to cover the sneakers I bought last month? I'd love to buy Mars Yard. Unfortunately they are $4k. Could I split it up over 4 months? Sure. But do I want to tie up $1k a month for 4 months when I don't know what will happen during those months? I don't. I just don't take on future debt for luxury items. That's me personally. You do what makes you happy.
Right. Like I've been setting aside slowly for a new guitar. I'm not in a hurry with it because I don't need it and want to pay in cash and try to get a lower price than what they've got it listed for. But that's more due to me trying to get a better deal and liking that process than not wanting to finance it out.
I have no problem paying using afterpay no more than I’d have using a credit card. I don’t over extend myself.
I'll say it, as a rich white guy, that it absolutely is a racist way of thinking. It's almost identical to trying to legislate poor people (thinly disguised racism) by shaming them with restriction on food stamps, assistance, etc. (Don't buy steak, don't buy soda...) The "if you can't afford it don't buy it" comment is shit tier thinking. If someone can set aside an extra $25 for a few months, which may be a lot to them, to afford a luxury they otherwise couldn't have? Good for them. Life's too short. Do what makes you happy in a way you can in getting by.
I personally set it aside in advance and then buy it. I don't buy it and then figure how to pay for it over the next 4 months. That's me personally. I did the same thing with our house. There was a few things I wanted to splurge on that definitely weren't necessities but didn't want to include in the mortgage so I set the cash aside and paid for them outside of the mortgage. Outside of house and cars, i don't like carrying personal debt of any kind. Again, that's me personally. Everyone is free to do what they want.
Back in maybe 2017, there was a pair of Chlorophyll on stockx for about $1k. I didn't have 1k expendable at the time but I had just changed jobs and I was very tempted to use Affirm. Almost did it several times over about a week but just couldn't do it. Ended up waiting about a month and then bought them from a seller in the Philippines for cash. To each their own, its just not for me.
I’ll let it go because it seems like he is unwilling to be able to understand affirm =/= afterpay. They aren’t the same thing. I’ll use afterpay but not affirm. But, I won’t knock someone who does.
Your first post on the topic was: "They offer some type of layaway through Affirm. But let's be honest, if you're paying on layaway, you shouldn't be buying sneakers." That's some judgmental shit, particularly with the financial state of most Americans and the assumption that since you are privileged enough to carry little to no personal debt and to allocate a significant amount to discretionary spending that it's somehow wrong for someone in a more stressful financial position to utilize an alternative means of affording a luxury.
Think shoes are a little different in this situation too. Prices can change so much in 4 months so its not really as simple and just 'save the monthly payment for 4 months and then pay all at once'. A pair is $100 right now but instead of buying them with whatever service you say ill just wait and save $25 every month for 4 months. Four months later and now theyre $150 so you gotta come up with an extra $50 or save two more months.
Some would say it’s actually a bad financial decision to pay upfront in cash when you have the option pay over four months with no interest. Similar to how people pay with a credit card only to pay in full a month later
Yeah it's not an extreme situation like either he's getting sneakers or the family's power bill is getting paid. Even then it's not that bad and there are other, cheaper things that could have discretionary funds spent on. At least that's what I tell myself when I look at my boxes of baseball hats by candlelight.
I get what you're saying, and there's some truth to it. But I judge myself to that same standard. I want a boat. I dont want to finance 100k to buy one so I don’t. Others do and thats fine. It's just not for me.
And in the situation where it’s just broken up into 4 payments with no interest, theoretically you could make money (even in a low percentage savings account) on the amount you haven’t paid yet.
I might ask for advice and Im not looking for someone to just tell me what I want to hear, but 99% of the time Im gonna do what I wanted to anyway.
Nole96SC can you tag me when this gets back to shoes, socks or jeans? I’m tryi my to be very careful on what I take in from a zen perspective and this is just getting me away from that. Thanks.
We had one when I was a kid. They'd just started out and are based out on Pensacola. They were nowhere near the name brand or price they are now. That's really the only reason I want one, just nostalgia. Its way too much boat for me.
