I'm fascinated by shoe culture.

For those of you that collect pairs not to be worn, what portion of your net worth do these shoes represent? Do they appreciate in value if you acquire through the secondary market?

 

I don't know that we have many(if any) dudes who "collect" in here. Even dbl wears the expensive ass shit he buys. Some of us do attempt to buy some stuff just for immediate resell though.

 

I don’t think most in here would say their shoe collection is a piece of their net worth (except DBL potentially) because most (try) wear them enough that they would depreciate once they are no longer dead-stock. I will say, I just moved and added up how much I had that I hadn’t worn, and it was into the thousands for sure. Sold a few pair, starting wearing more pair. Kind of the motto around here..wear your kicks. Clear eyes, Full hearts, Flex hard.

I don't think anyone here buys with the intent of not wearing. Some of us have a problem where we buy too much and end up not wearing them all so unworn pairs stack up but that's not the intent.

As for going up in value, absolutely. Just take the Travis Scott releases the last 18 months. The AJ1 was like $900 shortly after release and is now $2k. The sail AF1's were $250, now $800. Even something like the AJ1 Turbo Green. They were pretty easy to get for basically retail. I had 3 pairs, sat on them for 6 months and ended up selling 2 for $190 each. Basically broke even after fees. 6 months later and they are $300. Oops. Then you have the really crazy stuff like Pigeon Dunks. They released in 04 or 05. A buddy bought 6 pairs between 09-12 for $1500-2000 a pair. He's sold 3 of them in the last year for $40k total. Obviously that's the extreme but yea sneakers can be a great investment, even buying at secondary prices after release. Buy the right ones and you can double or triple your money in a year. A lot of resellers do that. Buy at resell prices right after release and then sit on them for a year. Just have to have a lot of capital to do it.

I probably have 25-30k worth of sneakers but like I don’t try to sell I wear them all, basically a reward to myself for being able to wear nice sneakers everyday of my life when I wanted too when I was younger and poor.......I hate dress shoes since I was born and only own one pair (my work is 100% casual now)

I usually end up giving away expensive shoes away for free as that’s my wife’s rule basically buy a pair now and give one away and I only got nice sneakers now so someone I know usually ends up scoring some free nice kicks now

I wear them, but only do sneakers on Friday and weekends. Love new sneaks, but admittedly this thread has escalated that.
I collect watches and suits a bit more vigorously.

I'm not an am1 fan but those londan/new Amsterdam are great

 

Big fan of what they've done with the am1 since the middle of last year. No gr's at all. Limited amount of pairs but every pair has a theme and I dig that. It's not just "Hey here's another blue and white am1." The Sketch pack, Windbreakers, Houndstooth, Chinese New Year pack, now the City Pack. 2017 and 2018 was rough bc I was buying 8-10 gr's a month. Tons of great pairs but I'm glad they slowed down on them. That shit was expensive.
