I tried to head over after our football practice and the fire Marshall wouldn’t let anyone else in since it was at capacity
All day long I had a premonition that we were in for a let down. And sure enough, it happened. We dropped the game 2-1 and now have to play an extra game tomorrow night against Chelsea, our only other loss of the season (4-3; the milkshake game). My offense really let me down tonight. It was a strange game because it started out exactly the opposite of last game. We spent the first 10 minutes of the game almost exclusively on Barcelona's side. Lamont had a breakaway early and got stoned by the keeper. But then he had two more within minutes, one where he pushed the ball wide and missed the open net, and the other he blasted like 5 feet over the crossbar. A little later he drove the ball left, drew the entire defense and the keeper towards him and made a perfect pass to Jaxon who was wide open from near the PK spot in the center of the box. Jaxon, who is normally very dependable, just whiffed and the bill skidded off his foot. It doesn't get any more open than that. A few minutes later Barcelona makes us pay after Brendel (another dependable guy) half-assed it and didn't aggressively attack, allowing the Barcelona kid to blast a pretty easy shot and we went down 1-0. My kids were hanging their heads for a bit until finally Lamont converted on a beautiful pass from Tib, Jr. on the defensive end right to Lamont's feet at the top of the box. Lamont made one juke and scored. After pulling level my boys seemed to perk up a bit and we went into halftime 1-1. Shortly after the half, Brendel gets called for a questionable foul near the top of the box. It happened right in front of me and I thought he got the ball, but the ref called it a penalty. Barcelona puts in the kick for a 2-1 lead. A few minutes later, Lamont gets tripped in Barcelona's box. However, he had already missed at least 5 shots by this point so I let another dependable kid, Austin, take the PK. He winds up hitting the post and Barcelona clears. In the process of clearing, however, a Barcelona player knocks the ball down with his hand just outside the box. Jaxon takes the kick this time and the goalie blocks it, but my boys didn't hustle so nobody followed the shot. It was at this point that I got pissed with my team. They just seemed to quit because things weren't going their way. The defense played tough as fuck, but we missed a minimum of 7 easy goals PLUS a PK. Hats off to Barcelona for playing tough, however I can't help but feel that this was a game we gave away. Now we're stuck playing tomorrow night for a chance to get back in the Saturday title game, where we would have to face Barcelona again.
I can't even accurately describe how off he was tonight. He was toe-kicking every ball which was causing him to miss wide open shots all game.
Sorry, boys, but the title dreams are over. It's hard to even explain what happened. We had the play-in game against Chelsea tonight. We were up 3-1 in the first half an all we needed to do was hold on. I can't explain it, but for whatever reason one of my stalwart players, Brendel, who plays defense opposite my son just completely choked tonight. And by choked, I mean he personally gave up 4 ridiculously easy goals. I can't even explain it. He gave up maybe 4 goals total in 13 games but today he just fell apart. Like, literally freezing in place and letting offensive players run by him. I pulled him at one point, and his sub fucked up, too. So we lost 5-3 after leading 3-1. When I pulled Brendel and asked him what the fuck was wrong with him, he had zero answers. It was fucking heartbreaking because he's a great kid. We play the consolation game at 10:30 tomorrow against Liverpool again. This fucking blows, and they might well beat us. It's sad to see such a great season fizzle so badly because one kid flat choked under pressure.
In other news the main enemy of the thread the English coach got suspended last night for repeated offenses
When the twins showed up with milkshakes before the game I knew the season was over at that point. The coach had obviously lost the team
Doubts creeping in - can TMB FC do it on a cold rainy night in Stoke? all jokes aside this has been a fun thread to keep up with. When is their next season and when does funding start?
Also we gotta talk to somebody about purchasing the rights to the Real Madrid name & brand. Repping Arsenal meant this season was always going to end in humiliation
Not how we wanted the season to end but it is what it is. As a board member I make a motion to hold a members meeting to discuss our future going forward. As a Iowa basketball fan I know the feeling of choking in the post season and I AM NOT going to deal with it at this level either.
Hmm... Maybe there's a way we can get involved in some sort of bounty action, grease some palms for some tds
Thanks to the fine sponsors of T-MB for a wonderful season. Not the ending we wanted, but these kids had a great year anyway:
Brief post-script to the season: Chelsea, who knocked us out in the semifinal 5-3, went on to take down Barcelona in the final 4-1 and claim the title. At least knowing we lost to the champs takes some sting off of the end of the season.
That's what I like to hear. Also how much to have one of the mom's bring a stereo and blare 'Hala Madrid y Nada Mas' after each goal just like they do at the Bernabeu?
The rec team may have ended in disappointment but the travel season still has a month left. Playing on the worst fucking field I have ever seen (weeds, dirt, big ridge running down the field) and with a ref who doesn’t understand how to call a handball my sons team prevailed in the semis of the tournament this week. The other teams goalie made a bunch of really good saves and was throwing a shutout until 5 seconds left in the game and we were awarded a corner and somehow found the back of the net to tie. (They scored off a PK early in the game) Game went to PKs, our 2nd kicker hit the crossbar and 4th kicker kicked it weakly right at the goalie, but each time we missed our goalie stepped up and made a save. Finally in the 7th round they kicked it wide and sent us to the finals this afternoon. Team we play in the finals we have played 4 times this year and won 3 of them. They beat us yesterday so it will hopefully be a good revenge game.
