Anyone got any favorite shoulder mobility movements? Started watching some starrett vids again. My overhead mobility is absolutely terrible and needs all the help it can get
I have a long PVC pipe that I bought at Lowe's that I do these overheard shoulder dislocations with. I also mix it up by angling the pipe so that when I pass it overhead, one arm is down low and only one arm goes over my head, if that makes any sense
Alright guys, now that I'm finally live, excited to share what I've been working on. Would love your feedback if you could take a peek around, maybe read one of the reviews, etc... Pretty pumped about it! Would also love your thoughts on new content (reviews, advice, whatever) as I grow it. Thanks, dudes. http://garagegymlab.com/ http://garagegymlab.com/rogue-competition-bumpers-review/
Yesterday when I was in the locker room getting changed I had the luxury of hearing the most cunty member in the gym whine to the locker room attendant about the substandard products lifetime uses in the bathrooms and supplements they peddle. He started rummaging around the guys cart showing him product labels. It took a lot to not mash his face into the sink. Don't get me wrong I'm not buying any of their supps but wtf are you bitching at the fucking locker guys for? The fuck do they care.
I know. I touch calves to hamstrings when I high bar, so it is more in my case. My disappointment still stands though.
Subscribed. At first look I like the simplicity and ease of navigation. The couple articles I've checked out are super detailed. I'm sure you've already thought about it, but are you planning on getting into the YouTube space eventually? Not sure exactly in what aspect since a lot of your home gym is already built
Thanks, man! You should get a confirmation email that you’ll have to submit. I would definitely like to get into the space, but not sure it will be a key piece of my content. I bought a nice camera to do it/take good pics. I’ll be growing the gym a lot now.
He puts out some pretty decent content I think but he only reviews equipment that will make him commission. I’ll get affiliate commissions too, but I’ll be reviewing things that don’t have affiliate relationships. Take the EliteFTS safety squat bar for example. EFS doesn’t do affiliates. He’s owned that bar for years, but won’t review it. I should have that review out this week.
First week of coaching. Yesterday I did 54 deadlift reps and 42 bench reps. That was my second day pulling and 4th day benching. 14 week’s out.
I don’t have a home gym and probably won’t anytime soon but want to support this thing. Does it help you to have me subscribe?
I’ll have articles on things other than just Garage gyms. Namely equipment benefits, etc... that you could apply to your training. So from that perspective you could possibly find some nuggets. Following me on Instagram would definitely help. Garagegymlab is my handle. Appreciate you guys.
hensleya Need a barbell that will be kept in an unheated detached garage. What kind of coating should I get? Zinc, cerakote, stainless, etc? Gonna have all types of weather fluctuations.
Get yourself an old school York split sleeve. I got one about 10 years ago and I keep it in my garage. it's still as beautiful as the day I got it.
Subscribed. If you need any advice on DIY equipment making, let me know. Most of my equipment was made by hand, so I've got a fair amount of experience.
I already have one. It tends to get a bit corrosive but is still a workhorse. Knurling is pretty worn too.
I will absolutely let you know. That’s going to be a big part of my content strategy. And thank you for subscribing!
I think cerakote is a bit overkill personally. To me it's more of a marketing ploy, but they do look pretty cool. The difference in terms of durability between cerakote and stainless won't be really noticeable, IMO, and if you prefer a raw feel, the cerakote only detracts from that. I think stainless is the best way to go, personally. Vulcan is about to release a stainless power bar that also has stainless sleeves. The stainless Rogue Ohio Power Bar and American Barbell Elite Power Bar have chrome sleeves. Rogue has hinted that they are going to release one in the future with stainless sleeves. All three will still be great in the garage. I own the Rogue Black Zinc OPB and I have not had any corrosion or rusting in my North Carolina garage. IMO, American Barbell makes one of the best looking barbells. Their reverse welding is pretty amazing. I'll definitely be buying the Vulcan when it comes out. I bet the price will be right, and they are right down the street from me.
I'm looking at adding two things to the garage: Some sort of lat pull down contraption Dip station or just bars. Would be great if they were collapsible (is that possible) Any ideas are welcomed
I built my own lat pulldown with some pulley blocks and steel rope in my garage. I'll take some pics tonight and post it tomorrow. As for a dip station, I used to use my garbage can and recycling can to put my arms on. I've since gotten some old York squat stands that I modified into dip bars by making a T out of some 1" pipe from the plumbing section at Home Depot. You can also make your own "rings" and hang them from an eye bolt in the ceiling, but that's a lot more difficult.
I have rings and a pull up bar. I'm worried about the instability of the rings for my 8 year old thus I'd liked to build something more stable for dips. I'd love to see the pulley set up. Thanks.
Solid day, been lifting my typical 4/5 days a week but slacking on main lifts. OHP, farmer walks, bench, incline dumbbell press, bunch of other shit today and made some strides on most of them. Need a good leg day tomorrow
In case you gents are interested: http://garagegymlab.com/elitefts-safety-squat-bar-review/ Dave Tate just gave me a shoutout on his IG story which is pretty freakin’ cool
Here you go. First, I got 3 block pulleys and mounted them to the bottom cord of the truss in the garage. To mount them properly, I had to marry a 2 x 4 to the truss. I then got some 3/16" steel rope and ran it through the pulleys and tied them off with some cable clamps. It will take a little experimentation to figure out the proper length. Once you do that, put a carbineer at each end and you're in business. I would highly suggest not getting the coated steel rope. At first, the rubber coating catches on the pulleys and doesn't glide very well. Then it wares off, leaving you with a much smaller diameter cable. Then it snaps while you're in the middle of a lift. True story. Spoiler That's the hard part. For the wide grip handle, I just got a 4' section of pipe from home depot that's the same outside diameter of a barbell. I use a piece of athletic tape to mark the center. Spoiler For my narrow grip handle, I got some narrow PVC and some rope from home depot and made this. Spoiler At the business end, I attach my 36kg kettle bell, as that's all I really have right now. A loading pin from Ironmind is at the top of my Christmas list, though. Spoiler And here's the full set up. Spoiler I've found a few different ways to use it. The first way I use it is to line my bench up with the pulleys, put a keg in front of it to keep the bench from sliding, and do a seated row with either my narrow handle or my wide bar. Another way I've found to do it that more closely resembles a true lat pulldown is to move the bench closer to the pulleys and turn it around. From there, I use my wide bar and pulldown at about a 45 degree angle. One thing I learned is that I can't get too close to the pulleys because the weight at the end tends to swing quite a bit. Taking an 80 lb wrecking ball to the nards would be a shitty way to end a workout. If you want to make it so you can do a more vertical lat pulldown, you need to space the pulleys farther apart. Mine are only about 16" from the first to the last. Spacing yours out to 36-48" would give you a safer distance from the swinging weight to do a more vertical pulldown.
As for my dip stands, here is my primitive set up. A wife's coworker had some old York squat stands and gave them to me for free. Spoiler Where most people see junk, I see opportunity. I went to home depot and made these T handles out of some basic stuff in the plumbing aisle. Now I can do dips. They're a bit unstable, but that just makes me stronger. Spoiler
Team doing nothing today but running local 5k in the morning Will be sure to take a bunch of selfies and express how fit and dedicated I am to the world
Started at a real gym a few weeks ago. It’s been fucking amazing, cannot believe I waited as long as I have. http://seminolestrengthandconditioning.com/ Owned by a literal monster Jeremy Hoornstra, nicest guy ever while benching 650+ lbs. Personally I was able to get 405 X 3 on DL last week and 430 for one the week before that. 455 for a single will come by the new year. Adjusted goal is now 500 lbs (with hook grip) by my birthday in June. Trying to get hook right has been the hardest part of this all. My hands hate me. Weight is up to ~ 200 lbs but I got on a treadmill the other day (ugh) and ran a 5k in 21 min to prove a point so feeling pretty good.
