My 76-lb tapered step child was just finished. He still has to clear coat it, so it won't ship for another day or two, but I can't wait to get started with it.
I know people swear by his stuff and I’m sure it works, but in general Donnie Thompson comes across like an idiot
I love me some DT. I'm going to take mine down to Columbia and work with him on it. He started following me on the gram last night My sports doc is certified to use them. I'm going to also take it over there and learn some programming, etc...
first workout since my trip to Europe early last month. I kept a decent amount of strength, surprisingly. Squat 5x5 135, 155, 175, 185, 185 Bench 10-135, 155-8, 175-6, 195-4, 215-2 255-1+(2) felt great throughout. especially bench was gonna go 235 for my last set initially but decided to try 255 instead for shits and giggles and got it for 2
Says it is for athletes, yet wears Michigan hat. Does not compute. Sounds like repackaged bs for people who don't stretch or warm up properly
LOL @ Michigan. It's definitely not BS. Many college and professional sports teams are using tempering now.
Haven't received it yet, but I'll slowly introduce it to my anus over time. Hopefully I can develop a tolerance to plug the implement in its entirety, although this may prove difficult given it's girth and weight.
What kind of recovery stuff do all you strength people over the age of 30 do? After 6 weeks of strength work and my body feels like it is breaking down.
Despite only being 25, my body is at the level of a at least a 40 year old. Your options are: Creatine Foam Rolling Take a week off and do some light work/cardio I'm a personal fan of stretching in the sauna Rolling pin up the ass for good measure
What kind of training are you doing? I'm not looking for a detailed breakdown, just something in general. Example: Training for strength, weight loss, hypertrophy, a combination? I could give you a general answer, but a more pointed answer requires these details. I'm 42 and I still play rugby and compete in strongman competitions, so I know a fair amount about recovery.
started in Sept or Oct for the first time since I was 19 doing squats. Also my upper body was for the most part stronger than my lower body.
For the past year or so I’ve been runing a 2:1:1 hypertrophy/metabolite/strength blocks. My last strength block killed my joints and fried my cns though. I generally periodize them like israetel talks about in 5-8 week blocks, with increased intensity and volume over the mesocycle.
Let me make you feel better, I plateaued at 155lbs on bench in my 5x5. It is a sad and humbling experience.
Maybe you’re pushing volume too much in these strength blocks? Maybe get a baseline week, push volume and intensity then level out volume and push intensity. That’s how my blocks are currently structured.
You may want to look into programming more frequent deloads. Once we get older, we need to deload more often, especially on the hypertrophy and strength blocks. The high volume and high intensity of those two will really take a toll on your joints and CNS. I take 3000 mg of fish oil daily and have noticed a marked difference in my joints since I've started taking it. I also take Osteo-Biflex, but I can't attribute any specific pain relief to taking that like I can with the fish oil. I think that may be more of a long term joint wellness type of thing. You also want to look into getting regular sports massages. I've been getting them for over 10 years and they've irrefutably prolonged my career. Also, stay away from ice. Icing your joints is bad, mmmkay. Most importantly, now more than ever you need to learn what your body is telling you and take the appropriate action. If you need to rest, rest. Even if you have two more weeks before your next scheduled deload. If you need to eat, eat.
Okay, that’s (half) a ton of weight. His ROM is roughly 5” though, and he’s got some strap stacked on his chest to make it even shorter...
I just can't view equipped lifts as anything other than, "sure, that's a ton of weight but it seems silly."
I’m a pretty established gear hater, but I give single ply guys more of a pass over multi ply. Just view raw and gear as completely different things. They’re completely different lifts so no need to compare.
My review of the Rep Fitness Stainless Steel Power Bar http://garagegymlab.com/rep-fitness-stainless-steel-power-bar-review/
Hell yeah. If you could do it through my link, I would really appreciate it! Rep just launched their affiliate program, and it would be awesome if I could post a win on day 1. It's of course no additional cost to you.
If any of you follow bodybuilding it would appear as though the Arnold Classic in March as well as the Australian version have both lost their IFBB status and anyone competing in these shows will have to reapply for their IFBB card.
strange, both of those shows were huge events. i felt like the Arnold had surpassed the Olympia as far as coverage. its so easy to be a popular bodybuilder/lifter without doing the competitions, i feel like the ifbb is totaly lost
This is a direct result of the sudden deaths last year and the increased drug testing requirements I’d imagine. The Olympia and Arnold are in direct competition for talent now. This happened in the early 90’s and Bodybuilding spent two decades trying to recover from the loss in popularity. Now, people who’ve never stepped on stage are once again clamoring for safety standards that will destroy the entire field. Plus, it’s a big fuck you to THE guy who’s responsible for making bodybuilding relevant and popular.
See my above post. It sounds like the IFBB took action after Dallas died with respect to drug testing. The Arnold in Europe is still on the IFBB website but the Columbus and Aussie versions aren’t. Either they didn’t have time or refused to comply, I don’t really know. But either way the IFBB is threatening to take cards away, and the ability to play in the “Super Bowl” Olympia if anyone does compete in the Arnold. Maybe I’m interpreting it all wrong.
Damn. That’s a big loss. Australia’s main powerlifting fed just got booted from the IPF. Tough break for Australians lately
Admittedly I think there’s maybe less than five people on the board who even follow BB, but I found it interesting. I have no desire to compete but I’m about the only one in my gym who isn’t a card holder for the NPC or IFBB.
We had a guy quit our gym unexpectedly. One of the few powerlifters. He saw me the other day and said hey and i asked why he left. He said the gym across town got a new Ohio Bar from rogue. This is the same gym that when the leg press is loaded with 45’s no one else has a 45. I guess our ivanko, eleiko, and Old school Yorks aren’t on his level. Some powerlifters are too dumb for their own good.
