I can only dream of being this much of a badass in a singlet and pajama pants when I'm pushing 90.

Do y’all know of any legal precedence about acquittal of murder charges when someone is using the deadlift bar to bench....and not touching their chest

Anyone have a good stretch or tool for the top arm pit/pec intersection(I don't know what the actual muscle is called). Great pressing day but have had a couple times recently where feels like I'm close to doing damage to that area.

While I do the door frame stretch I also massage and pull the pec toward my center chest giving it more stretch in the area you are talking about.

Went to the front desk at my gym and told the lady that I was dead lifting and they were out of chalk. She took me back to the supply room where there were markers and paper clips to look for chalk

Sounds like you need to cut back on volume. Are you doing a lot of bench variations and overhead pressing? You may be overdoing things.

Also, +1 for lacrosse ball rolling.

So here is my squat max writeup. First of all I just want to say people that go to the gym with obvious colds can go to hell. Interacted with a few people last week that were sniffling and coughing, so I ended up wiping down all the equipment I was using...to no avail. Felt a scratchy throat come on, so now I'm just going to roll with the last max numbers I did. Perhaps in a couple weeks I'll try again, as I'm sure this cold is going to affect my strength for a little bit.

Went 13 solid years without squatting. Last Feb 1 I was able to do 185x5 with the fifth rep being a struggle. That was quite pathetic in my mind and motivated me to get the ball rolling again.

Stats: 6'2" 192 at time of last "max" rep -- Weight has been around 192-198 recently
370x1 high bar with shoulder-width stance to parallel

My original goal was to go from 360->385 and I felt it was really possible due to how easy 350 had been going up for me in my last few heavy days. I may have been able to get it if I wasn't greedy on the day I hit 370. I went from 370 up to 390 and then proceeded to fight 390 at the bottom of my squat for a good 3-5 seconds. I'm thinking this took just enough out of me where I failed 380 for my next attempt. Got 380 up maybe a few inches before I stalled out there.

Overall not too disappointed with the progress. I spent two months in the middle of the year just doing 3 sets of 185 for 10 reps with a minute rest in between. This was because my body felt incredibly tight due to all the heavy squatting I was doing. At that point I was around a 300 pound max. I feel like these two months helped my technique quite a bit.

My quads are definitely the strongest part of my legs right now. I started extra hamstring and glute work because of this. I think they are lagging behind a bit. My front squat max is 295, but I haven't really pushed it to the limit yet. I may be able to hit 315 as I usually do my back squats first and then end with a couple heavy front squats.

One extra benefit of the squatting...I can two-hand dunk from a standstill quite easily again. Played a few pickup games where the thought of posterizing someone came and went. Getting older sucks because you don't really have the bursts of energy that you used to have. The good news is that it looks like strength really is the last thing to go, so I look forward to trying for a 500 pound squat in the coming year.

i will not be taking questions at this time.

i haven't done a full circuit where they do stones and stuff, so most of what i've done is pretty standard. the farmers walks and log are my favorite from what i could count as a strongman movement. the log press is stressful, but getting it right feels amazing. the keg over bars lift may have been the most taxing thing we did, i was so gassed.

there are two training setups he runs for strongman, one is steady just lifting and when competitions are coming up there is a separate program with more technical movements. i may just stick with the steady lifting.

I honestly do not think it is out of the question at all. It is ambitious, but I really do expect at the minimum to be squatting 475+ at this time next year. Keep in mind I was squatting 2x a week for the entire last year minus one sick week and the two month period I mentioned. That two month period was actually very nice because it let me focus on all the little technical details that sometimes become too hard to focus on when you're pushing 90%+ 1RM.

Got my 125# dumbbells, they're fucking massive. Have never lifted more than a 100 before, didn't realize the control factor as well as the weight. Did some rows and bringing them down was harder than going up at first, got it down pretty quick. Gonna be awhile till I can press them or do lunges.

Gym got some powerlifting bars (Capps Texas Squat Bar). Is it inevitable that these will bend a bit, or have people already fucked these things up? Bar I’m using looks a bit off, so I found a pvc pipe and sure enough it’s bent (ends sloping down).

I would put a significant amount of money blaming it on the #IronOutlaws (this is actually the “team” name and they have the bench “reserved” at 8:30. Group of about a dozen men and women in here Sunday (and assuming every weekend) benching.

Only about 4 were actually benching, but they busted out every accessory possible — bench jackets, belts, wraps, 2x4 for board pressing, etc. They even had ducking rubber mats that they were putting on the bench They had to of had over 500-600 pounds on the bar for the hour that I was around them. I noticed it bending then if I remember correctly which bar they were using.

I’m sure there some nice people mixed in, but their gym etiquette was beyond awful. There are about 7 benches (flat and incline) in the area, and they took up 6 of them just for their bags and equipment (plus standing around).

Maybe I’m getting old, maybe people suck, but it was a terrible experience and it resulted in at least one nice bar bent.

That amount of weight wouldn’t permanently deform a bar, especially that bar. Heavy rack pulls or general stupid shit/abuse is likely the culprit.

Which part of the armpit started to feel tight/sore first?
Did it feel like it was tight more in the chest side or the inner part of your arm where it connects into shoulder? I've had an issue with my dominant arm before where it got really tight all of a sudden in the armpit and then tried to go a few more reps and felt a small tear in there.

Upper inner armpit. Didn’t feel any pop but got to a point where I didn’t have 1 more rep in me for any real weight

I actually did the baseball thing about a month ago, no problems then for some reason completely forgot about it. No problems since I started it up again . Seems to work, got baseballs all over so I don’t forget this time

Haven’t put on my belt and squatted or deadlifted ‘heavy’ in a while. Turned 30 over the summer and decided if I still want to play soccer and feel relatively good about my athleticism I needed to stay ~200lbs at 6’. So spent the last half of 2018 lifting less (cleaning up form) and doing more yoga and having actual rest days (also started taking creatine regularly for the first time).

I’ve lost a good 20lbs and strength is somehow up a good deal. I don’t bench but can DB press the 90s for clean reps 12-15 times. Deadlift feels as good as ever I can (beltless but with straps) rep 325lbs 7-10 times before I get too worried. To top it off about a month ago I was just feeling particularly good and had the time to do it so I put on my belt and worked up to 315x5 on squat which I couldn’t even do when focused on powerlifting. Felt pretty good about myself but it definitely took me a couple weeks before I was feeling back to normal. Quest for a 500lb deadlift is probably gunna wait for a few years until after my retirement from rec league sports :tebow:.
