Also getting a whole community of predominantly roided up whites filled with mostly conservative beliefs to all accept him has been amazing. Why can’t all sports do this
seeing highlights of jf caron at wsm and trying to understand how he kept going on a torn hammy. 10reps on dl at 750??? what a warrior.
What are thoughts in this thread about rest periods during heavy lifting cycles? Considering taking a rest week or 10 days battling soreness in back, elbow, knees. No injuries just general fatigue. I am pursuing PRs (trying to get to 1000lbs total on dead/bench/squat) and afraid to stop, but think my body could use it.
I do 3 on/1 week deload and train around injuries. sprained my ankle bad a month or so ago and haven’t deadlifted or squatted since, doing RDL and good mornings solely which has been miserable
I don't know if I ever take a full week completely "off", but like Gunners, I usually get a week of lighter weights for every 3-4 weeks of heavy lifting.
It’s all about fatigue management. Push until you start to feel beat down then do a week with 25% less volume and/or intensity. That should have you feeling refreshed. Usually 4-6 weeks before a deload
placed orders last week with Bells of Steel, Titan, and Rogue. everything was in stock or listed as shipping within 2 weeks. home gym will hopefully be functional by the end of July. still need a few odds and ends like some D handles and bars to use with cable pulleys.
I need a power rack for the new home gym. After looking around I think the rep 5000 or sorinex is the way to go? No space limits and I will probably get a separate lat pull down and functional trainer in the future. Anyone have any recs? hensleya didn’t respond to me on here or Instagram :(
https://www.bellsofsteel.us/product/residential-power-rack/ I bought this one. i have never owned any of this stuff, but the cost and size were exactly what i needed.
Anyone have experience with the Rogue nylon belts? I need some help with my bracing and would like to try a belt to get a little extra support on squats/DL. If it works well I'd probably invest in something nicer but want to make sure I like it first
Sorry, bud! Both are great racks. I own both. Sorinex is significantly more expensive, but it’s better, it’s more compatible with attachments, and it offers customization that rep can only dream of. If you do go rep, the 5000 is the way to go. Very nice rack all-in-all. Have you considered the rogue monster?
A year later of fucking with sumo and still learning things. Tonight was having a hard time breaking the ground initially with what I had targeted for 3 reps. Made a couple of adjustments and went 2 sets of 3 reps, made one more tweak and managed to pull 5 clean reps faster than the previous two sets with the same weight on 3rd set.
Awesome, thanks. I looked at the rogue, but it seemed like it didn’t offer much more than the 5000 and it a little bit more expensive. Would you say the sorinex xl is worth the extra $1000 compared to the rep 5000 41” 6-post? Like I said, I’m going to get a functional trainer and other machines potentially so I’m not too worried about accessories (I have 1000sf).
It’s gonna be more than $1k. Shipping alone from Sorinex will make it at least $2k more. That said, if you’ve got the budget I think it’s worth it. It’s truly 1” holes and 3x3 so you have better attachment options with the likes of rogue, Sorinex, Williams, etc… REP uses the metric system, so it’s slightly smaller. You’ll be able to use some attachments, but ones that span a lot of holes may not fit. The great thing about both racks compared to rogue is they’re 47” wide vs 49”. Bars fit much better in a 47” rack - you won’t run the risk of clipping the uprights when racking/unracking.
NoNatty : asks rack purchase question me: sends link for budget rack i've already purchased NoNatty : sends links for racks 4 times more than my budget rack me: swallows entire bottle of poor pills
I have this weird tendency to pull with conventional mechanics in a sumo stance when the weight starts feeling heavy. Basically over recruit my lower back and not enough emphasis on driving my legs into the ground and pulling hips forward. Biggest cue that helps me is to get my chest tall before pulling so that I’m not over the bar in a conventional set up. Biggest help yesterday was rocking backwards before the pull which helped a lot with leg drive and keeping the bar close and on a straight path. /dear diary
I always hesitate to tell people this because they can take it way the wrong way, but treating it like a leg press helps a ton when everyone gets their back and hips set.
I currently have a Titan stand. If I was just looking for a rack I would have probably gone with that rec, so I appreciate it. I have fully committed to making this area super nice and have already dumped way too much money into it (residing, leveling concrete, sprayfoam insulating, heating and AC). No point in skimping now.
So I’m competing, or just doing a mock meet, in 13 weeks. Then I’m doing the Ghost Classic meet in Miami (formerly the Hybrid meet) Gonna be a a little short on getting an invite but I can still get in on the other day.
email from bells of steel telling me my order has not shipped yet because they over allocated 35lb plates and are out of them. they are willing to replace them with an extra set of 45lb plates. tbh i didn't even want the 35lb plates and poured over the packages to see if they had an offer without 35s.
Forgot to make my ice coffee for this morning's workout. I had probably the worst workout of my life. IDK if I'm just tired from working 65 hours this week or what, but christ.
Anyone have experience with youfit? My gym is awesome, but I moved about 20 minutes away. There's one 2 minutes from home. Wondering if it would be worth a switch if it meant 1-2 more workouts a week. Not a powerlifter or anything, but would prefer free weights if possible
one of the items i ordered was a 100lb sandbag. i did a few sets of floor to shoulder today. that got me pretty good.
I have a 75lb one and using it for diamond push ups is one hell of a thing. I mean just getting it loaded onto my back is a workout by itself
i haven't thought about trying to get this one onto my back. after considering it, ill probably just keep doing some banded pushups lol
1) Do they have pizza Fridays? 2) Do they offer bagels or donuts in the morning? 3) Do they have a lunk alarm?
The other red flag I've seen is no outside equipment. I'm not sure how far they take that. I like to use straps on some things to stop tearing my dainty hands
Is that the one that’s all green? I remember one being in tally and I think there’s one Roswell. Only seen it from the outside. Seems like a step up from planet fitness. I’d just go a weeks pass I’m sure they have. just looked at the one by me and it seems like it has everything you would want minus a squat rack. Maybe they have one and it’s not in the pictures.
My ankle refuses to heal so I decided to just suck it up. Sets of 405 paused deads and 315 paused squats went ok. Tomorrow should be fun!
Jamal just blew up 925 and alllllmost locked out 990. Turns out 990 on calibrated plates is almost the end of the bar
this dude trips me out. He always negatively comments about the rap music to me and I’m just like “????? Bro this OutKast hits wtf?”
My man!!! I would check out USAPL or USPA websites and look at meets online in your state and which ones are around you. There are some slight rule differences between the 2 you’d need to be aware of but mostly the same. USAPL is completely drug tested so no TRT therapy even from a doc. If you’re diabetic you’ve gotta get a Therapeutic Use Exemption for the insulin. Other than that I think you’re good. USPA has drug tested and non-tested events. Both are judged really fairly and usually put on good meets with high standards. happy to answer any questions you may have
