My overall caffeine consumption is too high. I could definitely use a break. I cut my lifting days from 6 to 5 and feel more productive overall. Some days I'm just dragging ass through the circuits though.
Correct, especially if you're waiting to eat. Leangains.com has much more detailed info about that. Berkhan knows his shit.
Activates muscle loads differently may be one reason, variety, better depth with one over the other is mine, also if doing lunges might as well do reverse lunges and box step ups
Squat stand ordered and on its way. I am excite. http://www.roguefitness.com/sml-1-rogue-70-monster-lite-squat-stand
I'm in a Facebook group with Matt Gary (USA's IPF world coach) and he gave me some advice on warmups and attempt selection. Truly fucking #bLeSsEd
I am always a 10.5 in Nikes, 10 in my dress shoes. Got a 10.5 in the Adipowers and wish I would've gotten a 10. I've also seen an article somewhere before where they recommend a half size down
I've come to realize that I'm woefully unaware about nutrition and supplements. I know what good food is and a large part of my diet comes from animals I kill or the vegetables I raise in my garden, but the whole world of performance nutrition is so foreign to me. After 20 years of playing rugby and 13 years of competing in strongman contests, I finally started taking one supplement and I'm even thinking about getting a protein supplement. #confessions #deardiary
Reading up on this thread, currently on page 15. Started Jason Blaha's Novice 5x5 today. It was difficult.
debating on either starting 2nd time through of the GZCL Rippler or the PHAT and cut a few lifts out. Rippler was pretty nice and saw some good gains in the chest/shoulders, and it left time for gay cardio things
Not really a fan of sets over 5 reps for compound lifts but I was feelin extra hype yesterday and went for at 10 rep set. Holy fuck, the quad pump was debilitating. -dear diary
You haven't lived until you've done a set of 20 rep squats. After that, you probably won't want to. My best/worst high rep adventure was when I deadlifted 308 (140 kilos) for 50 reps.
a widowmaker literally killed jesse marunde Squat goal before the end of summer is 315x20+. Should be doable.
Yeah, but Jesse had "compounding factors". Also, the workout that killed him was a squat drop set, not a 20 repper. 230kg x 8, 190kg x 8, 150kg x 8, 110kg x 8, and 70kg x 8. He then went directly into a tire flip and finished it off with a stone load. There was no rest between any of these sets or exercises. 315 x 20 should be doable.
I'm with you. Zero supplements ever with me but I do the occasional protein shake. I just try and limit the bad foods as best as I can and try not to drink too much bourbon. I weigh myself everyday to see how I'm going, whether I want to be going up or down in weight. Less is more in my book.
Get your hands on some of the pre-reformulation Shatter that had amphetamines in it. BCAA take intra workout. A scoop in a 16 oz bottle is too rich for me. I do a half gallon jug if possible. Mutes the taste and forces me to stay hydrated I started with this. Stick with it and it'll work even when the volume is insane. I got to where I was doing deadlift/squat/bench 405/315/225 for the 5x5 sets before I finally had to change to a lower volume program. I've since changed my focus but I've been happy with the program. Nothing too special about his iteration, the 5x5 programs all work of you eat enough, slew enough, and show up. I wear a 10 in running shoes and a 9 in tight chucks for lifting. I went 9 in Romas and I still have a slight bit of heel slippage. I only wear them briefly not through my whole workout so I really could have maybe gone 8.5.
RPE 9.5 for sure. I maybe had 490 in me, but not 100% confident. I would go 435, 460, hopefully 490. I may could bump up the opener to 440-445
Everyone's different for sure, but I'd rip 450, 475 and go for 500, depending on how your other lifts went. Always a competition boost on some lifts, especially the deadlift.
I'm not sure what type of bar they'll be using. I'm using the Rogue boneyard bar, I believe. In retrospect to my above jumps, I shouldn't take a smaller jump from my 1st to 2nd than my 2nd to 3rd. I may roll with your idea. 500 would cap a, hopefully, great day.
Always pick an opener that you're 100% sure about so you don't bomb out. Your 2nd lift should be somewhat close to your limit but still doable. 3rd lift should depend on what the competition does and what you need to put yourself in position to win. Of course, everything depends on how you're feeling that day. Choosing your lifts is a science and it will come with experience. If you're strong enough and blow everyone out of the water, you won't have to worry about it.
Not really a lifting question but didn't know where else to put this. Want to get a heavy bag, was thinking of getting an empty bag and filling it myself. Anyone done this? What did you fill it with? TIA
Only you know your lifts, there are some people who want to go 9/9 and others, like me, who don't compete often, want to go for PRs with the 3rd lifts and whatnot. With the less experienced guys in my gym who rarely, if ever competed, it's rather common for lifters to set 40-50lb PRs on the deadlift. Sometimes it's the bar, sometimes it's adrenaline of competition, just never know. Have fun, I'd start with: Are you sure you are actually going to use it? You can usually find them pretty cheap on craigslist. They are a bitch to fill. I've heard of sand, rice, clothes cut up, etc. Some stick a pvc pipe in the middle, fill it with sand, then fill the rest with old rags and clothes cut up.
Yep, will use it. Thanks for the advice, will probably go with the pipe surrounded by the old clothes, that seems to be the one i've seen the most that people are happy with.
If you're using the boneyard bar, there's a good chance it's a regular Ohio Bar that has more whip than what you'll get on the platform. I'd stick with the more conservative opener unless you confirm it's a power boneyard bar.
I've worked as a loader/spotter at powerlifting meets and as an equipment guy/judge at some strongman comps. That shit is fucking exhausting. Way more tiring than actually competing. At least at strongman comps, we usually have a dolly, forklift, skid steer, etc to move the equipment. With powerlifting, you have to load and unload every damn plate by hand.
Not only unloading each plate, but doing it correctly and quickly so the meet doesn't drag. It's something to behold.
It's part of Revolution Powerlifting. I know little more than that. I'm actually doing some photography for free as a favor. I don't have the chops to compete at my weight and really don't know enough about the flow of a meet to do anything other than slow someone down. *i enjoy fitness shoots one on one a whole lot more. You actually get to know someone that way. Especially if they're interesting or hot. Not surprisingly it's usually fitness and bodybuilding types not powerlifters.
RPS? If so, they are good people. I've known Gene for years. We have some of his old equipment in our gym.
Claude (TN chair), whom I've never met, comped the owner of my gym a table and some other stuff. My guy asked me to show up and take a few shots which I enjoy. It's kinda cool for me to see people's eye light up when I catch a good moment or when they say they got a bunch more following on IG because of my work. I don't take money at this point. That's the only way I can make sure people get what they pay for.
I need to get my sleep and diet back in order. Been working late at night and I can feel it screwing with my lifts.
Got all my shit put together finally. Belt, shoes, and a couple other things should be here today. Here she is though.
Love it. Did my first workout in it today, and it felt so damn good not having to deal with other humans.
