John Haack, the man gravity forgot about. 727@189lbs w/wraps. Ben is going to wipe the floor with him, but they're both going to put on a show Haack and Andy Huang have 2 of the most aesthetic squats in powerlifting.
It's this new ultra long bar for strongman. When he pulled over 1,000 for the first time on it the internet lost it's damn mind.
Nyet, comrade! Only two fingers on each hand should be around the bar, and the bar should be resting on the inside crease of the first knuckle. Your wrist mobility is something like 5,000 times greater (that's an unscientifically unproven statistic) with two fingers per hand on the bar as opposed to four fingers on each hand. Also, experiment with grip widths. It makes a difference.
This is also a good point. CJ Cummings and Caine Wilkes both have their hands at damn near snatch width when they're in the front rack position.
The only drawback to front squats as opposed to back squats is that they're much more quad centric and less glute centric. Because of this, more heavy accessory work for the PC is necessary than would be if you were doing a back squat.
Huh. The guy who taught me Oly lifts insisted on four, said there were demonstrable differences in core positioning such that you lean forward more when you only have three or less. He was a stickler for it.
If you're performing the clean or pressing it, I'm sure there is. For someone just walking it out of a rack, I can't see it making much difference as long as you keep your elbows up. I could be wrong, though. Regardless, it's got to be better than the crossed-arms nonsense. I've tried that before and it seems like it's much harder to keep your elbows up and maintain the shelf than it is with your hands under the bar.
Fair enough. It was definitely in the context of cleans and presses. I might try two since I've been doing them off the rack lately.
I front squat with first 2 fingers personally. CJ Cummings front squats with 3. Colin Burns does 4. Derek Kendall goes cross armed. It comes down to personal preference, IMO.
Team Crossed-Arms cause I have these big ass deltoids But really because my wrist mobility/strength is garbage
I've always done crossed arms b/c it was easier on wrists and could support it better. Since I'm going olympic lifts right now I switched to 2 fingers to help with clean positioning and functionality.
I've found 2 fingers to be the sweet spot both for Front-squat bar-balance, as well as for fingerblasting. I do make sure to warm up/stretch my wrists first though.
This BB video is a really good one for front rack issues. I'll do this on my mobility days and before front squatting and I've seen a noticeable difference in elbow height
Main lift today was BB OHP 5 sets of 2. Sheet said 155lbs. Started adding on after 2 sets. Got 175x2 on last set. Previous best was 165x1 a couple months ago
I hit a plateau at 140 when I was doing 5x5 2 years ago. seemed like it lasted for a year I couldn't get over it. I think this program having a lot of emphasis on doing a form of incline DB/BB 3 days a week is helping out a lot.
speaking of ohp good news: set a new ohp pr today bad news: tweaked the h*ck out of my neck doing so, and now I can't really move my head unless I turn super slow
I have pretty good endurance for 8+ reps, but really struggle with less than 5 reps. My 1rm is only ~15 pounds heaver than my 5rm. And I pause every rep so
quick question i've been doing a ppl for the past 6 months or so, and i like it a lot, but I got a new job and 6 days a week is pretty time consuming so I'm thinking about switching to stronglifts 5x5. When looking at the programs the recommended weight to start off seems really low. Do I really need to start off with like 65% of what I was doing before? For example my last week of ppl I did bench 225 3x5, squat 275 3x5, deadlift 325 1x5. The 5x5 app says i should start off with bench 110 5x5, squat 135 5x5, deadlift 160 5x5, I don't even warm up that low.
http://www.strongerbyscience.com/training-diet-simple-body-complex/ Another great article from Greg. We're so damn complicated that unless you're an elite level athlete, don't get bogged down in the details.
Question: can/should I stagger a deload week or does that defeat the purpose? Legs are feeling fried, but everything upper body feels fine.
I wouldn't. Give yourself a physical and mental rest. Deloads are important in the grand scheme of this. It's a marathon not a sprint.
Silent Mike finally posted a video about his resignation. Really doesn't say much of anything, sounds like he was just ready to move on and do his own thing
Agreed. Also seems like he's wanting to grow and knows he really can't do that with Slingshot while Mark is there. He seems like a genuine guy. Wish him the best.
