What kind of warm up routines do you all do before lifting? I just jump right in to warm up sets of whatever lift I do first, but as I start to progress in weight I feel I should do more first. Yesterday I jump on the assault bike for 5 minutes before squats while waiting for a rack to open. Thanks
Depends on the lifts I'm doing that day. Squats will be ankle/hip mobility. Bench will be shoulders, lats, and triceps. Deadlift will be hips, hamstrings, and back.
Question for you strong men. How do you view lifts with hooks, is it valid or viewed like doing weights on a machine? These are the hooks I'm talking about
Ask someone. Hell, you don't even have to use words. Just tap them on the shoulder and point to the bench. They'll know what you mean.
Just start out slow on the regular bench and work your way up in weight. Smith machines (pic you posted) assist you during the lift so start with lower weight than what you've been doing.
smith machine will get you as jacked as the girl in the pic. I would use dumbbells if you're not comfortable bench/incline pressing without a spotter.
Use dumbbells at home but don't have bench/squat so was hoping those numbers meant something, guess not. I'll heed your advice. Only did 2 days and 6 sets on it, think I can recover.
I've never done squats with a spotter Just set up the pins at the appropriate height if you have access to a power rack
I started lifting seriously a couple years ago and was very new to squats and deadlifts. I watched (and still do) a lot of YouTube videos from different people that break down squat form and give tips on fixing common mistakes to learn technique and then videoing yourself is very helpful too. Start with an empty barbell and practice and you'll get a feel for it pretty quickly
Both shoulders have blisters on them. Upper back is super burned. Saturday marks 16 weeks out. Should be a fun squat session Monday
Nah, you're just attempting weight that you're not comfortable with. If you're ever in doubt, just lower the weight that you're confident in and build slowly. Don't test your max every time leg day rolls around...
I have been using Isopure for a couple months. Its probably the best tasting I have ever used even though I originally only picked it up because it was zero carb. Good stuff
Getting back in shape after a year hiatus. Picking up the following tomorrow assuming the Craigslist dude doesn't rob me: Adjustable Bench, curl bar, pulley system, arm curl and leg attachment for the bench, 2 clamps for weight bar and a set of bars for weights to make dumbbells from (Olympic weights), dumbbell weight sets 5-10-15-25-40-50-60, 2 kettles 10 & 20lbs and 2 x 12lb medicine balls. Separate adjustable bench, dumbbell rack, tower for pull ups, dips, crunches and push ups. 3 mirrors. I've never seen an at-home pulley/cable device worth a shit but I still think I'll have enough to keep me satisfied without a gym membership.
Yury broke Coan's record. 903.8lbs at 220lbs bodyweight. He totaled 2,226 at the meet one WEEK after totaling 2,160 at the US Open. What. The. Fuck.
Should short lifters with long arms be penalized for pulling more than tall people with short arms? It's impossible to give a truly level playing field. Bench arch, sumo, wide stance squats, etc.
I'll do wide grip for light weight but not when I'm lifting heavy. I bring my elbows to slightly lower than 90 degrees but anything lower than that is just all shoulder/rotator cuff and not worth the possible damage to try and lower the bar to touch my chest.
Yeah for my elbows not to dip below the bench to touch my chest with the bar I'd have to have my index finger well outside the knurl mark.
Also it should be noted I am much more into bodybuilding than power lifting. I know this thread has went more towards the power lifting and I do enjoy heavy squats and deadlifts but I'm much more into bodybuilding than power lifting. I'm a meathead.
So this is why I feel like every time I go in the gym now I see someone having themselves videoed while squatting
My gym looks like a god damn movie production between the powerlifters and weightlifters. I routinely go back and watch vids to look for things that are off and make changes.
It was weird the first time for me too. It's just like golfers and baseball players filming their swing to critique it.
We lost the glorious smiley of Houndster's Tinder chick looking nervous and unsure of herself. But had we not I would post it here
One of my wrists has been sore since working out Thursday. Did pushups and bench. Anyone else ever have this problem?
If I had to guess, your wrists are cocked back when benching and the bar isn't staying in line with your forearms
