first three episodes premiered today. is it worth watching?
I liked the first ep
Ansel is so cool
Show is fucking weird
Enjoying it, but I'm also a sucker for crime drama set in Japan esp Tokyo.
Last two episodes
This show is really good.
Absolutely loving it so far.
Really liking it so far and it feels like a show that is just going to get better as it goes deeper
Show is surprisingly great so far. I did not expect anywhere close to this much action or intrigue.
Continuing to enjoy it in spite of Jake's persistent weird bouts of naivete.
But why would the banker kill himself???
Starting today. Friend shared the trailer and damnit I'm intrigued.
It’s really good so far.
Yea it seems like most ITT are happy with it after reading through real quick, which has me even more excited.
It's really good. With the added bonus - it's about a good Missouri boy that talks shit about kansas
To be fair, Kansas as a state deserves the shit it gets.
As does Missouri
First two episodes were enjoyable
Why the hell did Jake think he could take a picture?!
Yes, that was a bit ridiculous for sure.
Show started off incredible but the writing has become increasingly implausible / careless in later episodes. The Jake and Sato buddy comedy was great TV but just seemed super unlikely without more scenes between them first. Jake getting countless chances at his job after shitting the bed continuously and being a foreigner in a notoriously nationalistic and xenophobic society is just laughable, as are the scenes of him sneaking around in a world where he’s a giant white guy surrounded by Japanese people. The club scenes are also just super cringe, I can’t tell if Elgort is dancing that way cuz he knows they are, or if that’s like literally the only move he knows. The show also does that annoying thing that every American show set somewhere else does where the characters will switch back and forth between English and the native language mid convo, even though Japanese people are super prideful about using their own language, especially when they know both parties can (and it doesn’t even make sense to do so here when Jake/Elgort can speak Japanese).
I’m still into it cuz the yakuza dynamics are so intriguing, and Ichida and Tozawa are such incredible characters, but the show would feel way more legit if they had fixed some of the stuff I mentioned.
It is a true story, so some of your comments about things being implausible actually happened.
Winning Time is a true story too, do you think the events in the show "actually happened" and the players were quoted directly in the script?
Also, all of my complaints are more qualitative than about any particular plot point.
I haven't watched Winning Time, and it is not relevant on any level.
I was referring to this...
"Jake getting countless chances at his job after shitting the bed continuously and being a foreigner in a notoriously nationalistic and xenophobic society is just laughable"
Yeah, really not surprised that you think that statement wasn't relevant when you take everything that happens in a show loosely based on a book to be true at face value. Please let me know what passages I should be reading that tie directly to what's portrayed in the show though
It is not relevant because it is a totally different book to show adaptation. How would that relate to this one? Straw man by definition. Sorry you are not enjoying it, but even with it's warts it has been a pretty fun show.
I mean do I really need to spell it out for you? You said that what happened in the show is true because it's based on a true story. I'm pointing to something else based on a true story that is filled with fiction, as I'm saying Tokyo Vice the show is, because dramatizing things is literally what TV does. Not rocket science, miss me with your strawman BS. Also already said I'm into it in the same post but go ahead and tell me how I feel about it lol
You are very angry. Strange. It’s simple. You stated a premise, and the the one example you used made no sense. He literally was the first foreigner to work for that newspaper, so obviously they are xenophobic, but it didn’t stop them from giving him the job and the chances. Instead you referenced another adaptation that had nothing to do with this. It’s obviously dramatized. Make your point better.
You love telling people how they feel. Strange. It is indeed simple, but not in the way you seem to think apparently
I didn’t really view Jake’s struggles in the show early on as him fucking up, but more just struggling to figure out how it works
Maybe I’m misreading your posting CMoney128 , but it seems like you set a very high bar for this and are just trying to find ways/things to nitpick over.
Not sure how far you are in the show but like I said, I thought the first few eps were great. Also that’s just one aspect of what I’m saying
Episode 8 is pretty crazy. Not sure how all of these people wouldn’t be fucking scared out of their minds if all of this was even close to true.
Shit, I didn’t realize that was the finale. It was crazy but didn’t feel like an ending point. Lots of cliffhangers to resolve now.
So is it two parts? Multiple seasons?
Was the guy who stabbed Sato the Meth head writer?
It was the guy he beat up in episode 3.
this show is good
Just finished the first episode and it’s not bad so far.
Just finished episode 6
Lots of story lines to finish the season.
The lack of no season 2 will be really disappointing
I'll be pretty upset if that happens.
Just finished the season last night, really enjoyed the season, Episode 8 was *holy fuck* for sure.
I want more….
i wanted to like this show more than i actually liked it. it became very predictable.
i'll still watch season 2. i am very curious as to who gave him the tape..
