not even sure why this thread got bumped but just a heads up there is no such thing as a republican that’s a “great person” (or even mediocre person) in the year 2022
Tap dancing Christ
Somehow every political issue relates to the border.
Easy for you to say from outside of the danger zone of alabama
Really brave of residents of states that don’t share a border with Mexico (Gulf of).
Lost in all of this she could have easily run as independent and fight the shift of the Republican Party into outright fascism and instead doubled down
We have to border Florida and I would like to put up a wall until we figure out what the hell is going on
Why would it matter how much money/weaponry we send to Ukraine? We don't pay for the wall I thought.
Forget that, she could've just run as an only slightly RWNJ well to the center of Mo Brooks. But instead, she chose to try to out-RWNJ one of the biggest RWNJ's in congress.
Being the most RWNJ just means more around here.
I'm just still not convinced it was even necessary.
Maybe she was the biggest RWNJ the whole time
It's impossible to be a bigger RWNJ than Mo Brooks.
Breitbart cultivated him in a petri dish.
it was definitely necessary. zero chance you get out of the primary without going full MAGA asshole. Trump won the election by +60%!
It was definitely a risk, but Brooks is historically a pretty poor campaigner. She was going to have to pander; that was a fact of life. No anti-Trumper or even Trump neutral can win here, but she's gone beyond that.
i agree she has been much worse than I expected.
I don't watch much TV, but the guy we are live in caretaker for watches all the game shows through out the day, and the other day in rapid succession the commercials were 4 political ads back to back. I was cooking in the kitchen, and may have contemplated stabbing my ear drums with a knife. It was a Kay Ivey then Mike Durant then Britt then Brooks
Have to take pleasure in the small things, and I take pleasure in knowing that Mo Brooks' political career ends tonight.
And 4 decades of Katie Britt’s starts.
I'll hold out hope that this campaign was the low part and maybe she'll do like her boss and just funnel us lots of money and solid federal judges.
how after this past decade or so do you still not get it
Is there even a demonrat running?
I get it. We're talking degrees of awful here.
I'm just hoping she'd join up with somebody more like Tom Cotton than Cruz/Hawley.
I'll just relatively miss Shelby.
There is, but not really. The Alabama Democratic Party has basically vacated the field.
Solid judges? LOL
Shelby did a pretty good job on district judges. I think wes tegg would agree.
Have you seen how the republican party has shifted hard right in the last few years? You are getting extremists from here on out
Good lord, man. Are you incapable of even hoping for something nice? How depressed are you?
why do you have so much faith in republicans? Seems incredibly foolish after the last decade+.
Alabama politics? Completely incapable. We have the dumbest senator in America. We have who I would say is arguably the most anti-democratic representative in America. It's beyond depressing.
I have no faith in republicans. Everyone left in it is either anti-democratic and extremist or is willing to pander to those people and advance those causes to have a career.
I'm sure you're right.
It’s so bleak to be hoping someone takes after the “Steve King of the Senate” as your best case scenario though.
Yeah, but that’s life in one party rule by extremists.
you dumb son of a bitch
What a line
It’s sad. I’d kill for a dorky, talk big but do nothing Ben Sasse.
Sassy does plenty of things. They’re just the same bad things Cotton, Cruz, and Hawley actually do, but with a different public-facing persona. This concept of degrees applies more to personalities than actions/inactions. Also why Rs are so effective at minority rule. Lock-step.
fucking hell is your brain 2 day old oatmeal?
Yeah, I know. He at least voted for impeachment though. In this state you’d fare worse than Tom Rice if you did. Alas, at least my representative is a Dem.
Not if you can read/comprehend.
We’re talking about what is actually achievable for Alabama because of how bad our options are. Would I take Sasse over Tuberville or Britt/Brooks? Absolutely
I can’t imagine Sasse would have a political career in Alabama these days. He might not have one in Nebraska much longer.
And the above has nothing to do with substance or voting record.
Shelby basically hand-picked our district court judges and did an excellent job. We have a really good federal bench, as shocking as it may be.
