If I were betting on the race: Sessions gets mid 30s Tubs low 30s Byrne does better than Moore for the last 3rd. Byrne supporters and enough people with too much Bammer in them will break for Sessions in the runoff.
I agree with this. And don't forget Shelby has already endorsed Sessions, he'll play that up in the runoff I'm sure. Shelby not voting for Moore is probably the only reason Doug Jones is in Washington now.
He's already said he's not seeking another term. He's 85 years old. His seat goes up in 2023. Tubs blew all of his money immediately. Sessions has it in spades (including Shelby's war chest). Sessions is going to win the race.
He was at my dads funeral. My dad was a county extension agent in talladega county so it’s not like he was a business mogul or something. I’ll never forget that fact and I admire that level of dedication to the people he represents from a politician, regardless of his political views. Shelby had absolutely nothing to gain from that move. He just met my dad a few times and liked him.
And, love him or hate him, he's done a tremendous amount for the State of Alabama, in judicial selections and in pork. We're going to miss him horribly when he's gone.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pork_barrel Shelby is the king of leveraging his political power in the senate to get special projects funded at home. Alabama has received a wildly disproportionate amount of federal dollars in the past thirty years.
No, he's old as shit. He also had prostate cancer like 20 years ago. I'm amazed he's lasted this long. I guess he did make himself fabulously wealthy while "serving" in the Senate, so why quit?
No. Trump supported Strange throughout. Mitch McConnell treated Strange like an incumbent Senator, even though he was a short term appointee tainted with potential corruption. So McConnell/Senate Leadership Fund ran off a lot of potential candidates by threatening to blacklist any consultants who assisted any campaign other than Strange. It was unbelievable stupidity on the part of a normally very shrewd politician.
Strange likely would have won the special election and had a Richard Shelbyesque career if he doesn’t make a deal with Bentley.
I think he absolutely would have won the election if he had just allowed Bentley to appoint someone else and then run as the crusading guy fixing corruption. Instead he chose the perceived benefits of a fake incumbency and ended his political career.
If he had prosecuted Bentley and then run for Sessions’ seat, he’d probably be considering a campaign for president in 2024. He is just a tremendous coward.
I know wes mentioned it on the last page but seriously, listen to these episodes if you want an idea of just how fucked the AL democratic party got and how it might actually have some life in the future: https://gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-all/llhd33
eh this isn't totally true. tubs actually has been a pretty solid fundraiser compared to the field (none have been very impressive in general). he destroyed sessions in q4 fundraising (yes i know sessions didn't jump in till early november, but his numbers were still paltry). sessions has only recently started to gain steam--he picked up nearly 500k in the first month and a half of the new year. i do think sessions will ultimately win, though.
You’re looking at income, not net worth. Sessions started with $2.5 million. Shelby has nearly $10 and is backing him.
tubs still has a decent chunk in cash on hand and he's been easily the best fundraiser in the field. agree that it's nothing that could compete with sessions when you factor in shelby's war chest. still think it's worth pointing out that the enthusiasm for tubs' campaign has actually been pretty high if you go off fundraising, particularly since he's done it mostly with small donor donations.
swims info and post history is saved to the cloud with a trigger to be sent to national media outlets if he ever registers to run for public office very on brand he was one of our resident racist n-word using posters while writing anti-food stamps articles for a conservative think tank
Tubs has spent incredibly stupidly. His small donors aren’t going to be repeat donors. Granted, he’s got two extremely wealthy supporters, but they’re also guys smart enough to recognize they’ll need whoever wins.
who are you referring to here? tubs' team is bad. that i won't dispute. i know the campaign manager and uh he's not someone i consider particularly bright. but their fundraising has been surprisingly decent.

I always thought the "My opponent sucks" ads were bad instead of just saying "Here's why I'm good" but good lord these "I suck Trump's dick more" ads are just the absolute worst.
According to television ads in georgia Doug Collins is a liberal who is in bed with AOC and Nancy pelosi because he agreed to give funds to the San Francisco Opera.
