Seriously though. I know I've mentioned it before, maybe itt im not going to check, but when I saw A Perfect Circle back in high school he stood behind this plain white screen and had lights shine from behind so you saw nothing but his sillouette the whole time. I've heard all sorts of different reasons like he's got anxiety etc, but at the end of the day I think he's just a real weird guy.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan made a handful of eyebrow-raising comments in a new interview with the Phoenix New Times this week, just ahead of TOOL's only performance of 2015 at the Monster Mash Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona. Asked whether the band has a sense of humor that a lot of fans miss, Keenan replied: "Yeah, it's there, but people miss it because they're so focused on the other bullshit. It's lost. Insufferable people… It's just ridiculous, retards. I'm sorry. Can't help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up." Yea I read that back in like 99/99 he was still standing out front. At least that's what the internet tells me.
1. He's always done it or has for a long time anyway 2. IMO it's bc they aren't the type of band where you go to watch the lead singer be the big star. They are meant to be a unit. Also I think the other members keep it somewhat plain Jane as well, which draws your eyes to the visuals more. You are supposed to hear them, see the visuals and feel...well I can't describe that to you 3. Yeah Maynard is weird so he also does it bc it gives a cool/weird/creepy vibe. It's like you can't be 100% sure there isn't a gollum-like creature creeping around in the shadows back there
Tool's great, been listening to them since the early 90's. Plus, Maynard doesn't sound like Skeletor and Tool fanboys are slightly less insufferable than Ghost's.
There is nothing that you could place into this blank to make that statement true. I say this as a Tool fan who purchased Undertow on cassette from Columbia House in 1993.
He's such a douche. Hey yeah, we're going to write ambiguous metaphorical lyrics for like 5 albums and include puzzles and shit in our album packaging but anyone who gets into it a little too much is a retard.
Understandable - this is the only message board I read. It's also not surprising because Tool hasn't put out an album in a decade. Just wait and see when/if(?) the new album comes out. Tool fans are more annoying progPhish fans when they actually have something to talk about. Point taken about Ghost, though.
I don't think he's annoyed at people who get into it a bit much. I think he's annoyed at the fans who take everything so seriously. He's caught a lot of crap from super serious Tool fans about Puscifer.
Opeth has a decent case for the worst internet fans. The dude who basically is Opeth used to post on some fan site and was chased away by fans of his own band because one of their albums wasn't death metal enough.
I understand it to a certain extent since both of his band names are variations on dick and pussy, but they've been cultivating this mystical (or whatever you want to call it) image for a long time. That's Tool. It made him rich.
Right, so he created side projects to explore other parts of his personality because nobody is that dark/brooding/mysterious for 25 years 24/7/365. Lots of Tool fans can't accept that.
Agreed. Can't recall the name but there's a song on opiate where he talks about this. "I can say what I want to, even if I'm not serious". An he calls people pieces of shit and tells them to fuck themselves a lot
That's mjk, for ya. If anything, I get what he's saying. For a stretch I was way too into the band in my late teens/early 20s, to the exclusion of other music. I can only imagine what some of the more intense fans say and do I can appreciate him as an artist, even if I don't care for his other shit. I suppose I've evolved as well over time. Shit - I listen to some real pussy edm stuff these days. If they come back around with a new album, I'll prob listen a few hundred times, but if they were all to commit group suicide, I'd lol
For some reason it feels weird seeing tool on twitter. Probably because it didn't exist last time they made a record
Reports that they're in negotiations with major streaming services to make their catalogue available digitally for the first time
Supposedly it's being done in conjuction with/anticipation of the new album release which has a lot of people optimistic that we'll get new shit before the end of the year. More likely is that their music won't hit Spotify until 2019
I was thinking more that they haven't released an album in 10 years and haven't released a good one in 15
