"I have more of a statement than a question...ummm my friend TC - he's from the internet - thinks you guys are total assholes for taking so long and all of your excuses are bullshit. Also, thank you for coming to Indy."
He has three Silverburst but the one I'm guessing you're referring to is a '79. The other two are from the early 80's.
I would be curious about who they are listening to these days, but idk if you want to waste a question on that
Left straight from work to grab a few drinks across the street from the venue but as I stand in line to get in I realize I didnt think this through all that well. Lost the jacket and tie but I've yet to see someone else wearing a shirt with a collar or something not black.
It wasn't too long ago where I read an interview with Maynard. He was talking about some bands he's following or has tried to see live lately. I can't remember the name of one of the artists he specifically mentioned, but it was some chick doing some pretty off the wall music. I use the word "music" lightly. Maybe I'm just not artsy enough, but it sounded like crap to me.
I really enjoyed it. It definitely wasn't a traditional concert experience, though they did play several songs (The Grudge, Eulogy, 46 & 2, Aenima, a slightly longer and more fleshed out version of what we've heard of A/Descending, and a new segue that's on the upcoming album that consisted of Danny on mandala pads while Adam played some sort of synth). By far the best part of the show was listening to Adam and Danny break down how those songs were written, evolved and eventually came together. Really cool insight in to their "process", how they work and what sort of stuff goes on behind the scenes. Things that stood out: When asked what the inspiration or theme of the album was Justin mentioned that the number 7 stood out and you'll see a lot of interesting time signatures based on that. They showed part of the unseen video for the new version of Opiate they recorded and it's weird as hell, as you might expect. It's the first video that Adam hasn't done and said that they gave total control to a visual artist friend and refused to give him any ideas or direction on what they wanted just to see what he would come up with. We only got to see the first 3 or 4 minutes of it but it was dark. Adam invited a couple from the front row up on "stage" where the guy proposed. Bizarre as hell but she said yes. Justin said 46 & 2 and Aenima are two of his favorite songs to play because he feels the messages represent who they are as a band. Adam mentioned that what he appreciates most about the writing process is the discipline everyone has to know when they need to pull back musically even if that means changing or losing something they really like if it doesn't make the song as a whole better. Some very cool memorabilia set up included a lot of Adam's art like the Priest statue from the Opiate cover and a couple of the weird claymation characters from their videos. Danny is enormous and has some of the biggest hands I've ever seen on a human being. Got to shake hands and talk for a minute with him and Justin after which was really cool. Both were super nice and engaging. Adam dipped out after the photo as he was apparently under the weather. They locked our phones up during the session (which was expected) but in the previous 2 clinics they were unlocked as soon as it was over so you could take pictures of/with the band members. Unfortunately we weren't given that option so instead of individual pictures we had to settle for 1 big group photo which is kind of shitty. I think because of this (and the fact that there were only about 100-125 of us) they were a little more lenient with our time in the handshake line. I didn't take this (motherfuckers) but the setup was very similar to this
According to Adam the album will finished "within days". About a dozen European shows announced for June points to a probable late spring/early summer release. No word on whether or not Joe_Pesci will be a fan again by then.
This has been the set list apparently https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/ghost/2018/louisville-palace-theatre-louisville-ky-639622ff.html
New US dates announced for the spring, likely in support of the album which likely appears to be released around this same time. Jacksonville 5/2 Rockingham, NC 5/11 Chicago 5/19 They're slated to start playing European festivals in June so I'm guessing there are more US dates to come
Stumbled upon the presale code for these shows and BFF grabbed tickets to Chicago. Excited. Ghost also on the bill Joe_Pesci
Ghost is a good live band. Or at least they were when I saw them in 2015. They have like 8 people on stage now for some reason
Maybe we will get that record in 2019. http://loudwire.com/maynard-james-keenan-completes-recording-vocals-new-tool-album/
Interesting. That seems to contradict what other "insiders" were saying about only having the scratch vocals tracked but if that's the case it should definitely be out this spring around their tour
Others have expressed similar opinions but I have zero expectations for this one. It'll probably be 75 minutes of segued music that we've heard from bootlegs. Regardless I'll always love this band for their first decade of music.
For the record I was towards Maynard's statement. I don't want to hear shit else except the record; quit talking about it and put it out
That's a hot take. I feel like it'd be one of the bullshit interludes they filled out the ends of the last two albums with
Those don't count as actual songs. Also half of Ænema was interludes too and it's far and away their best work.
"Right in Two" is a "normal" song though. Has lyrics, a structure, etc. For me personally, I was expecting a big grand finale on Lateralus and 10,000 Days after Undertow finished with "Floods" and Aenima with "Third Eye." I thought every Tool album would end with an epic closer like that. But both records just have slow droney stuff at the end. Idk, might like it more if I went back and listened now but I found it boring and a letdown at the time.
I like the interludes on Aenima. The creepy organ before "Jimmy" is awesome. All the Bill Hicks stuff before "Third Eye" comes on
Agree because they seem to fit much better on that album, almost as extensions of the rest of the music. Less so on Lateralus and 10KD.
