I'm definitely looking forward to what the artwork will look like if this album ever comes out. Wonder if Alex Grey will be involved. I love his stuff. I read his book; would recommend to people who like his art
well yeah there are good interludes and bad interludes, like this one, just in general though I tend enjoy a little transition or lead in to the next song, and I think they work well for a band like Tool
I'm fine with bands doing it but theirs are just heavy handed on the mystical and mysterious stuff I was a lot more impressed by when I was a teenager
The songs dont have to be a decade long for length's sake to be cool and proggy either. I listened to the newish Riverside album last night and all of the songs were like 5-7 minutes long. Still dope
I like to listen to albums from start to finish so if theres some weird/lame interlude it's kind of a buzzkill
When I said interlude I didn't mean a quick thing that leads into an actual track. I was talking about the 20 minutes at the end of Lateralus where it's like "watch the weather change" over and over and nothing happens
Kind of hoping they move in another direction. Feels like they're in another period with their music/careers and it should reflect that. Adam did the artwork for Undertown & Aenema (angry and cynical) and Grey's work fit with the reflective "higher consciousness" shit of the last 2. Time for something new imo.
Electronic’s unsolicited rankings of Tool songs. Ranking is actual songs and not including Salival. Third Eye Prison Sex Eulogy Undertow Forty Six & 2 Ænema Eulogy Opiate The Grudge Wings Lateralus Jerk Off Flood The Patient Hooker with a Penis 4° Schism Cold and Ugly H. Jambi Stinkfist Swamp Song Sweat Jimmy Vicarious Intolerance Push it Parabola Right in Two Crawl Away Bottom Rosetta Stoned The Pot Part of Me Sober Ticks and Leeches Hush Sorry, second worst song.
I love Alex Grey but I'm with you, it's been long enough that it will be lame if they don't have some kind of new direction on this one
There's a lot to unpack here starting with 46 & 2 not being at the top and the glaring omission of Maynard's Dick. Get it together man.
As hard as it might be to believe today but the rock radio station here played it in its entirety like once an hour for weeks after it came out. Drove me nuts
Sober is so bad IMO. I didn't even like it as a teen. It's that one fucking riff over and over. What's the cool part? "Jesus won't you fucking whistle"?
Rosetta Stoned's my biggest gripe Also I'm pretty sure we've had these same pg 9 discussions at least like 3 or 4 times itt while waiting for another album to come out
I tried to rank them independently of how played out they got. I don’t ever need to hear Schism again in my life.
The second halves of Rosetta Stoned (and Ticks & Leeches) are awesome, but they don’t overcome this shitty verses.
yeah I completely understand people feeling that way, somehow I even enjoy the first half of RS though
BLOOD! sucking, parasitic little TICK! sucking, parasitic little BLOOD! sucking, parasitic little TICK! Take what you want and then GOOOOO!!!! How is that shitty electronic? Those verses got me hype
I love pissed off Maynard. Songs like Jerk Off, Hooker With A Penis, Ticks and Leeches, The Pot, I just love when he's seething with rage and contempt
"Used to be a lot of assholes that lived in this part of the building here...until we systematically removed them like you would any kind of termite or roach" Now THAT's an interlude
Pretty sure I posted this several pages back but the story is one of their buddies showed up drunk as hell to that show and kept blowing an airhorn in the middle of their songs
I really missed Maynard's crowd banter. I only saw them live post Lateralus and I was so pumped to hear his smart ass quibbs but it was just so lame and serious after that. Early days of downloads and torrance and I would download 90s shows and his banter was hilarious. Anyways that list isn't bad but pushit belongs in the top third for sure.
At the very top group for sure. They played it live while I may or may not have been in a significantly altered state a few years ago, and I swear it was the closest thing I’ve ever had to a religious experience.
Whaddya want me to say, that TM confirmed it for me at a Xmas party last year (kids run in same circle)?
P sure it’s also out there somewhere....bc I went at him with “didn’t you tour w them in the early 90s?”
they definitely did because i remember seeing/hearing maynard sing part of know your enemy live at some point
I wouldn’t say I know him, but met at a couple of Xmas day parties two years running (weirdo Knoxville too) and I mustered up the nerve to talk to him. I’ve seen him at tool concerts in LA before (Wiltern) and knew they played together.
I wouldn't get starstruck by much but Tom Morello would be one of the guys in all of music I'd want to meet the most. Would be fascinating to talk to him about Rage, guitar playing, intellectual stuff, whatever
Fidelio said he's some kind of entertainment lawyer I think but I'd like to believe that he's Neil Everett or something
I come across people often and he’s the only one I’ve been apprehensive about. But in an Intimate setting, my wife encouraged it. Others: Justin and I traded beers in Woodland Hills White Harte 10 (ish) years ago watching Chelsea. Same with Danny at Barney’s Beanery in west h-wood during a chiefs game. I didn’t ask any questions Sorry I’m a douche
