Certainly seen the original a few times but don’t have the big nostalgia factor many people do. Very much enjoyed the new film. I’m sure I missed some of the fan service but just as a stand alone movie, I thought it was great. Definitely see it in theaters
Not a lot of loyalty from the soldiers there, and least three guys left the one guy there. Plus per LOAC if someone is helping a wounded person you can't attack them.
There wasn't an internet community in the 80s to derive a sense of self worth from by commenting on things in the cultural zeitgeist. Also he was probably like 3 when it came out
I didn’t watch the original until a week ago before seeing the sequel because I was born 5 years after the original
There’s no reason to apologize for a take like this. American exceptionalism weaponized by Hollywood is gross. Direct military crossover into star studded movies is literal propaganda. I’ll take your caning for you with this hot take that should, in reality, be luke warm at best.
Got tickets for Friday night to see it again. Taking the wife this time and I am prepared for a lot of eye rolling.
Movie was good Was surprised people said they cried a bunch but guess the dead dad stuff hits hard for some
I am 39, and would basically watch Top Gun multiple times a month by the time I was six, so I’m probably in the same boat and can emotionally relate. Based on the reviews, I too expected a Saving Private Ryan level of cinema (and had actually referenced SPR when discussing what I expected with other prior to seeing this). This wasn’t that, but I was thoroughly entertained by it in its own respect. There was what I thought some corniness to some scenes with the throwbacks and nostalgia, but I got through it alright. As Whiskey had inferred earlier in this thread, there was some tactical stuff that that I had to suspend reality a little bit, but it didn’t come close to ruining it for me. I was so completely engaged in the last 45 minutes of the movie that I didn’t even care. There was more Mission Impossible rather than Top Gun (the OG) in many aspects, but then again I expected that going in, and I like the MI franchise, anyway. If you like Mission Impossible, you will certainly like this. Would recommend to anyone on the fence about seeing this.
Not an expert, but pretty sure the Su-57 Felon - referred to as the 5th generation fighter in the movie - with its thrust vectoring is capable of that. Spoiler Somebody with more knowledge could chime in, but basically that cobra maneuver allows you to turn your nose on a fighter that much faster for a kill. The trouble with it is if you miss then your plane has lost a ton of speed, and you turn into a sitting duck for an opponent. In the movie, the Felon seems to recover its energy before Maverick can take advantage, although I don't know if that is how it would play out in a real fight. Could be completely wrong, would love to hear from someone with more insight. The only other question I have is with the Su-57 said to have stealth capability, would our AWACS have picked up them up in the distance prior to the attack? I want to say no, but that might be a question that cannot be answered with only public knowledge of its performance capabilities.
Certainly one of the most emotional moments of the movie. Almost entirely to do with the real life emotion, but that was really well done
Wife thought it was cheesy and average. I loved it the second time. Glad I didn’t take her the first time so she didn’t ruin the experience. Glad I knew better.
Saw it last night and thought it was awesome. Even better than the first. Might have to go for a round 2. Also just caught my wife listening to top gun tik tok so that’s a huge endorsement. some all time bad takes on the first page or two of this thread from years back my friend and i’s wives were jokingly saying they were ready to enlist last night so probably
Yeah I can't imagine being so emotionally disconnected that one could see that scene or any of the goose flashbacks and not catch a feel or two.
