i feel like the scenes in the sky are going to be amazing. Going to be like watching Vader vs obi wan in a new hope and then watching the light saber duels in the new movies
theres f-18s in the trailer, which makes sense, but pretty sure that scene of the su-57 he’s in an f-14 edit: yep https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zo...trailer-shows-dogfight-between-f-14-and-su-57
41 of them apparently. I know the US actively bought and destroyed as many spare parts they could find after the USN retired them just to keep the Iranians from using them
yeah I remember they destroyed a bunch out of that plane boneyard place to keep parts out of Iran. But relatively recently, within the Syrian war timeline, I thought I saw something that they had no missiles to use so they weren’t even front line service 10 years ago when they were shooting this movie they confirmed an f-14 was in it, but I just assumed they were going to use as an aggressor for him to fly at top gun school. But this looks like they are going to use it in battle Either way, I’m here for it
The wife rolled her eyes when I read her that tweet. I’m definitely taking a half day and seeing it by myself so she doesn’t ruin it.
Looks like it’s going to be awesome https://www.indiewire.com/2022/04/top-gun-maverick-first-reactions-tom-cruise-cinemacon-1234720597/
I think the last movie I remember seeing in a theater with my dad was the Walhberg Planet of the Apes. If I can make it work, the will be the next.
The F-14 without Phoenix missiles is not a great platform. It was underpowered and in up close air-to-air combat would get throttled by the 15, 16 & 18. Iran tried to design their own version of the Phoenix but it had less range and there are questions around its viability. So Iran has issues even if they can get parts for the aircraft. All that said looking forward to the movie and still vividly remember seeing the original in theaters for the first time.
I mean it’s a completely different generation of aircraft and almost 50 years old. And it’s freaking gigantic.
I was comparing it to its contemporaries. The F-15, F-16 & F-18 all came into service shortly after the 14. The 14 is the most iconic of the group but not the best dog fighter.
We're now less than 4 weeks away from the initial Thursday night screenings. And just to prepare yourselves, my understanding is that advanced tickets will go on sale at theaters on Tuesday morning, at least that's what my nearby Regal told me yesterday.
No, but the variable wing design add to it. Throw in six Phoenix missiles and you have mythological kit. The F-16 and Iron Eagle are jealous of the F-14 and Top Gun
In the late 80s, my family vacationed at Virginia Beach when Gorbachev was in the US and visiting Norfolk. There were a lot of exercises that week showing off how quickly they could get flights on and off of carrier decks. There were almost as many Tomcats (and F-18s) in the air that week as there were seagulls. For a kid obsessed with Top Gun and who had only recently grown out of playing with the old USS Flagg in his basement night and day, that was an amazing thrill.
Without going too much into the weeds, watching US carrier ops vs ANY other country's carrier ops are hilarious by comparison.
I haven't been to a theater in years. When looking at tickets, there's regular, XD, 4DX, RPX, DBOX, and DBOXHD options at various theaters. Idk what that shit is. What's best for a movie like this?
I see about a movie a week--including one last night--and haven't even heard of all of those terms ;) RPX is a deal at Regal theaters with a bigger screen and better sound than 'normal' screenings and the chairs are more comfortable than normal (at least at my local Regal), 4DX takes things a little further and the chairs will actually move and there are some other potential effects. I don't think 4DX is worth the cost, but do prefer some movies in RPX--most recently The Batman--while i will be buying RPX tickets for Top Gun.
Ahh, that makes more sense, some of those options could be each theater's version of the same/similar experiences. In fact, today i learned that RPX was specific to Regal theaters when i used to think primary difference was the audio/sound and it was available at multiple chains. And here's more info regarding 4DX: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4DX
Yeah, based on my understanding, it's pretty similar. Here's an article about a few options. My local regal has a ScreenX, as well, but it doesn't seem very appealing IMHO https://www.malaymail.com/news/show...-decide-which-xperience-you-want-at-t/1837527
Seems solid, although the one time i went to a 4DX showing i was a little underwhelmed relative to the total cost and i think i even snuck into that showing after paying for a regular ticket ;) Basically, it will be the most expensive showing a theater offers--or right at the top--and need to decide whether you care all that much about your seat moving/vibrating, etc. The Regal near me has RPX, while there's another about 15 minutes further away that has IMAX and 4DX options, as well. That all said, I'm cool with just paying a little extra than normal for RPX rather than making the additional drive and spending a little more for IMAX or 4DX, especially when i already pay for a Regal Unlimited pass each month, so the RPX show for Top Gun will only be an extra 2 or 3 bucks
How much cost difference are we talking? Hell idk what a movie even costs these days. Pretty sure the last movie I saw in a theater was F7, so 2015.
Standard adult movie at regal here in Houston is $13.25 while 4DX ticket is $21.91, so almost a $9 difference for that. And the difference for RPX is just $3.25 more.
4DX with the seats moving is fucking awesome. Literally like a roller coaster. They also mist the theater during a rain scene, will blow fake smoke onto the crowd. Will be seeing this in 4DX
Appreciate it. If I went a lot like you, the $9 would add up. For this one movie, that's what I'll do though. More excited than I already was.
Just bought 3 for Thursday the 26th at 7pm Only 6 other seats were already sold for either the 4pm or 7pm shows at my local theater, so I am like super hipster on this
Ok. Not going to come itt or read anymore about it until I see it. I don't want to build it up in my head to a level that can't be achieved then come out of it being that guy that's like, it was good but I was expecting more.
