The fact that I wasn't really worried when down 1 shows how resilient this team has been this season. We just kept hammering until we broke the door down, then hung on to our lead as usual. We are pretty fucking good.
34 shots, 14 on target. And we were the fresher team at the end after playing Thursday. With games fast and furious for everyone this week I think we may have a little advantage with our fitness.
This team certainly has championship mettle...maybe they just don't know any better, but nothing seems to phase them. Everyone has bought into Mo, and more importantly each other and regardless of our XI, we seem to play with an organic-ness that really hasn't existed at Spurs in some time. Obviously, it would've been really nice had Norwich been able to stave off that last minute goal, but worrying about what Leicester does will get us nipped in the bud really quickly. Keep doing our thing and I think we'll be very happy with where we are on May 15.
Wimmer needs to get some credit as well...he's been rock solid in Jan's stead. Toby is just a machine back there...depth at fullback has been key too, especially with the Thursday/Sunday turnarounds.
The difference between our remaining schedule and Leicester's is concerning. They have such an easy road to the end of the season it will be hard to get an opportunity to gain on them. If Norwich hadn't conceded at the end that would have been huge.
Same with Alli and Dier. Our 5M purchases the past few seasons have been ridiculous. Their combined value right now would be absurd compared to the outlay. We are killing it across the board right now as an organization, just have to hope it continues.
Yeah we don't have the toughest league schedule down the stretch compared to the other teams in the top 4. Just have to keep our heads down and take it 1 at a time. 6 league matches on the fucking trot lads.
Title will be won in the final 3 weeks. They finish at United, vs Everton, at Chelsea...not the easiest home stretch, especially if United are still in it for the top 4 (which they should be after today's result.) We finish at Chelsea, vs Southampton, and at Newcastle, which isn't a cakewalk but a bit easier, especially if Newcastle have already been sent down. I like where we are right now...we're going to have to earn it, and I think that suits this team's mindset perfectly. They don't want anything given to them.
Of the top four I'd say Arsenal have the relatively easiest run in but yeah we'll finish fourth most likely
We are gonna lose to newcastle.....again I think 7 points from the 3 games this week would be ideal. 9 would be bonerific.
I'll eat some crow here and admit Walker played his best match of the year today, despite being offsides on that third goal for no apparent reason
Yeah, he did delay it just a bit which will throw off the timing. Add to the fact Kyle is a fullback and not used to really breaking offsides traps and I'll give him a pass on that. He really was all over the place today, in a good way. The decision to rotate the fullbacks every match has really seemed to coincide with our ridiculous stretch of good form, especially in the league. Long may it continue.
Just some random stats/numbers. Sterling cost £50m. Or Alli, Aldeweireld, Lloris, Eriksen, Dier, Vertonghen, all our youth products, plus change. #thfc #COYS
A lot gets made of Sterlings fee but really he wanted to come here, we wanted him bad, we were buying in league from someone who didn't have to sell and paying for homegrown. Plus everyone knows we have a ton of money and will overpay. There were a lot of reasons that fee was way higher than what he's worth and it isn't like money really matters to City
It was just a tweet that I found interesting. It was more to demonstrate our ability to find some fairly awesome value buys the past few seasons than to slag you guys off for spending 50m on Sterling. That part was just a bonus.
You'll have to forgive me I spent the match surrounded by Pool fans who acted like they did anything with the money
If any of you lads think you have a top top thread title idea feel free to share anytime. I'm up for suggestions and am pretty much just throwing shit up that I find mildly amusing after a few chardonnays. It was either this or "Every Rose has his form", Danny deserves a corny thread title in his honor after scoring the winner today.
This season almost definitely doesn't happen without Eric Dier. He doesn't fill up the stat sheets but he has been the constant in our central midfield the entire season. No matter who he is paired with he adjusts accordingly and never skips a beat. He is so valuable in shielding the back 4 with our fullbacks blasting up the wing and he always picks the proper pass, rarely ever turning it over. He is such a calming influence and hub for everyone else to flow through on the pitch, allowing them to do their thing knowing he will be there to cover them. I really wish he had gotten himself that goal today. The very definition of a top lad.
It was probably lost in the crash but I'm pretty sure I posted frequently in the offseason about how well I thought he would slot into our midfield and that we definitely didn't need to buy a defensive midfielder during the transfer period.
