From everything I’ve read, we’re offering Toby a significant raise, but his camp still wants more - closer to the 180-200/week range. I’ve already resigned myself to his departure, but you never know. I appreciate how both he and the club have handled this, and as long as he goes to Barca/PSG I’ll wish him well.
It's always hard to bed in during the January window, especially with the type of training regimen Poch has in place. He seems to not trust players who haven't had a full preseason under him.
We are probably going to finish 3rd in a season where we played all our home matches at Wembley. No small feat, that.
Feels like next year could be our last go with the bulk of these players. Certainly will be if we don't finish top 4 again. Even if we do it seems like some of our best players not named Harry could start thinking of leaving if we don't start winning some trophy's or advancing further in champions league. Hope Levy realizes this and actually spends some money, enough of this equal money in and out bullshit.
We’ll pay more, but players are still going to leave because we’re never going to pay close to the other big clubs in England and abroad, and I’m fine with that, honestly. I think the club is in great shape moving forward and we’ll continue to scout and develop as well as anyone. Having the money to truly strengthen our bench is going to be key. We need to add 1-2 players this summer who know how to win at the highest level and help push the squad when fatigue and mental weakness set in. Another VdV type signing, if you will.
I totally missed the fact that Chelsea tied this week and we are virtually assured a Champion's League slot. I'll take it. Season was definitely a disappointment after the excitement of winning our CL Bracket, but I truly believe as much as we may lose people this year, that this is the year we finally start spending and paying and acting like a very different club. I love what we have done, but I am excited to see what Levy can do with a little money.
You’re right. I was thinking of that ridiculous scenario where Arsenal and Liverpool winning Europa and champions league meant the 4th place team was knocked, but forgot Arsenal lost to Atletico.
Commentators are clueless. There is no playoff for 4th place anymore. All teams are straight into the group stage.
How many times have I posted about Dier making a poor pass out of the back that leads to a goal. Lamela responds after a poor first half.
3rd place/FA Cup Semi Finalist/Champions League knockout stage is a pretty goddamn successful season for a team without a home. Let the rosterbation and transfer anxiety season commence.
Only true disappointment for me this season was the way we played in the semi after United leveled. 38 games away from home, in a “cursed” venue, and we finished 3rd in the league and won a very tough UCL group. We all want trophies, but this season was all about navigating Wembley and bringing UCL to the new stadium, and in that regard, the season was a success.
Good stuff from Poch. I think it is happening. Timing is right and he is generally very reserved about this stuff. Bodes well, IMO. 'We cannot think we are the cleverest people in the world winning trophies on small money. We need to think the reality is different. 'I think Daniel is going to listen. In this situation you need to be brave and take risks. Until today it was so difficult to talk about the future. Now we need to decide the way to operate.'
If Levy doesn’t open the checkbook this summer then I think next season will be Poch’s last with us. And if he leaves then most of our best players will follow.
I wasn’t sure if Poch was referring solely to increasing wages on current players, but you’ve spent a pretty good amount on transfers over the past couple years.
Poch delivered by bringing UCL to the new stadium, now it’s Levy’s turn to deliver by opening up the checkbook and allowing this team to truly become competitive on all fronts.
New stadium is way over budget and now Levy might have lost NFL money with the Shahid Khan / Wembley deal. Ownership is just as likely to sell players than buy expensive new ones.
that's my understanding. 2 games / year, but I think the idea was to get an NFL franchise in that stadium. Meaning 8 games / year. idk, maybe I'm wrong. https://thespursreport.wordpress.co...omy-of-a-gamble-new-stadium-deep-dive-part-2/
Sporting lost Sunday which would have locked up Pot 2 for us and knocked Benfica out. Still two other opportunities for us to get into Pot 2. Real win in UCL final or Basel dont make it through three rounds of UCL qualification stages.
I'll take a pulisic or a martial, 2 center mids, center back and a kieran tierney this silly season Toby to Barca, Moose to China , Rose to United, Sissoko to the surface of the sun. I actually think the hate for Sissoko went too far on places like Cartilage Free Captain, but that said, don't want him starting games next year.
Seems like Danny is back on board, though that doesn’t mean he won’t be sold if we get a proper offer.
