Agree with this, though Wanyamas knees were clearly done last summer too. Dier’s a great squad player whose had a horrible run of injuries lately. I’d love to sign a true 6, but it’s not happening.
Yes I think Kane, Dele, Dier, and Trip were all fried last year and injuries took a toll. You can probably make a case that Lloris was impacted as well. People are also sleeping on Sanchez. I think he was banged up last year as a result of the lack of layoff but he was great the year before and looks to be coming on. I think we are going to see big things from Foyth in the near future also. He has always shown the talent and just lacked experience. He is getting old enough to make an impact. Look at how well Son and Lucas did last year. Neither had the summer that the English and Belgian players had. I expect that type of rebound from those players.
Dude, what a save from Neuer. KWP awkwardly goes down the right flank but recovers and sends in a great cross and Moura got the fuck up there, aimed perfectly to the low far post. Strong hand palmed it away.
Dang the tiniest of foot saves to take Son's 1-v-1 wide of the post for a corner. Moments later, Eriksen receives from Kane and turns and fires.
Arp gets away, some weird backpass or deflection? 2-1, Gazza somewhat flat footed, didn't expect it to go to his right.
Foyth unable to stick with Coman, has to foul him on the edge of the box. Coman takes a long time on the ground, bit of Foyth's studs on his inside knee on the way down. Still need to buy a RB. Edit: doubly so now that Foyth is on the ground in the following play. Coming together with Renato Sanches, unintentional. Coman and Foyth both off, Foyth barely walking off under his own strength.
Ulreich has been the difference. Just some vital 1v1 saves in this second half. We've fallen apart since changing the backline to White/Tanganga/Toby/(Foyth/Marsh).
1-1 after two, Gazza saves the first well, Eriksen just shoots center but keeper doesn't dive. Kane fucking slams one top left, pure unsavable. Mueller puts it in the same spot with sliiightly less power. 2-2. Son up, smoothly bottom left. Renato stutters up, Gazza got fingers on it, 3-3 into the crucial 5th shots. Jack Roles up to take, confident to the right, Bayern's keep hasn't guessed the direction correctly since staying central for Eriksen's shot. Lewandowski walks up, long run up, easily bottom left. Sudden death now. Skipp does the trick, wrong way again from keeper. Singh, the New Zealander, scores Kiwi-style (to the right, New Zealand is on the right side of a standard map, Gazza should have guessed that, obvious in retrospect). Tanganga up, bottom left off the fingers of the keeper. Boateng up, Gazza saves it. We win!
Bruno Fernandes rumors back on in a big way today, which would indicate either Lo Celso deal is struggling or Eriksen is off. I’m thinking the latter. Apparently we have two delegates in Portugal negotiating.
Opposite, if we're replacing Eriksen (now or in a year), then Fernandes' excellent free-kick-taking abilities and his absurd goal tally would better replace the Dane.
Don’t think we can go wrong with either honestly. GLC is more of a deep-lying playmaker whereas Bruno prefers a more advanced role. If the rumors of Eriksen stalling on signing are true, I could see both of them coming with him going. The next week is going to be wild.
The question is, who’s taking him? RM are rumored to be going after Van De Beek as a Pogba backup. If they’re not getting Eriksen i don’t know who is. I think he’s going to run his contract down and leave next season. Which is great this year (assuming he still puts in the effort) but bad business heading into next summer.
I have no idea what we’re doing. Won’t be surprised if we make 3+ more signings, 0 signings or anywhere in between.
Toby agreed to contract details with Roma according to https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/alderweireld-agrees-terms-with-roma-report-33371? But this is after the 25m release clause deadline and they're offering us 20m. That's not happening, chief.
Lots of Wanyama out chatter, which would be nice. He was phenomenal in 16/17, but his knees have absolutely failed him since. One of our biggest issues recently has been an inability to cut dead weight. If we can move Wanyama, include Onomah in the Sessegnon deal, and somehow find a buyer for GKN that would be great. We should probably sell CCV to a championship side if possible, too.
According to SC Goat it’s done with Onomah going the other way. That said, him being in the squad is meaningless. He is hurt.
I don’t want to sell Wanyama unless we’re going to buy another midfielder. He’s not near the player he use to be but he’s depth at a position where we have no depth.
I am also looking forward to the meltdown in this thread when villa get a result at spurs a week from today
If we can sell him, we need to sell him. The only time he’s looked serviceable the past two seasons was against Huddersfield.
